This is my favorite version of Secret Squirrel, it's nice to see how many big cartoon creators were part of this show. Also, very interesting how this video came out a few days after 2 Stupid Dogs was added to HBO Max Latin America, which seems to have a larger classic cartoons library than the US version. Excellent video!
You nailed man! Without 2 Stupid Dogs, a talent pool animators, designers and scriptwriters for the next 15 to 20 years didn't exist and CN didn't turn what it was during its glory days. Incrdible!
Absolutely love 2 Stupid Dogs! The humor, the characters and of coarse Secret Squirrel! I got the pleasure of meeting Brian Cummings( Yep, Mr. Hollywood himself) who is not only a tall imposing fellow, but a super cool dude! He explained the origin of Hollywood came from an obnoxious drunk man on the train who sounds exactly like the voice impression he's doing! Great review! Love how you've covered its history, influence and excellent use of Hanna Barberra's bgm library!
The series, 2 Stupid Dogs originally ran from September 5, 1993, to May 15, 1995 for 2 seasons, on TBS as a part of their Sunday Morning in Front of the TV block and in nationally syndicated as part of the programming block The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera. Reruns continued to aired on local syndicated stations until September 1995.
This show *NEEDS* to get more credit. The show paved the way for our childhood and some of the artist are still working to this very day, we won’t have Dexter’s Lab, PPG, Samurai Jack, and other CN, Nick, and Disney shows, all just from 2 stupid dogs.
I freakin love secret squirrel. Like, damn- i really want him to be more popular. Funny, good writing, great music, god tier designs - come on why cant he be brought back?
I am very happy to see someone talk about two stupid dogs. not only did I grow up with this show i have a very personal connection to the show (i will not be stating it for privacy). i have met many of the people that made this show and they are a large reason why I decided to go to CalArts myself.
I like your use of Hoyt Curtin's incidental music for the video. It's A nice touch. '2 Stupid Dogs' was basically the proto Cartoon Cartoon in many ways. Fostering the talent who would go on to create many classics for Cartoon Network, and reviving the 3 cartoon format that Hanna-Barbera would set up during the 60's.
This show was so weird. Just put two dogs in a situation that feels like it was pulled out of a basket of random ideas. I loved it. I wish more classic HB toons had been revived like Secret Squirrel. That could've been its own show.
I love this show! Back in the 90s I was at college, and paid TV was a brand new thing in my country, so it was not widespread, and not all shows were dubbed yet. TSD was transmitted in english, so CN aired it late night. My college friends used to meet at my home to have some beers and watch "the doggies" at 1:00AM because I was the only one that had a paid TV subscription in the gang. We laughed a lot. Nice memories. Congratulations for the great video
Huh, who knew the creator of Dexters Lab got started here. It really is important. I loved 2 stupid dogs. I remember big dog got the name Johnny but not little dog.
I first came across this show in the mid 2000s strangely, and it was being re-runned on CN Italy at the weirdest hours in the middle of the night sadly, but I remember genuinely enjoying it. Only now I'm learning about all the talents who worked on it. Shame it's so hard to find.
Honestly, I only watched the show for the other characters and for the Secret Squirrel shorts. The dogs themselves were just really boring. Their one thing was "they're stupid, they don't understand how things work so they think they work a different way"...and that's it. I gried to watch the show, and apart from the stuff I mentioned earlier, the dogs just left me feeling bored.
Oh so THIS is where I was introduced to secret squirrel ! Explains why I remember this series and "flying rhino junior high" just as much as the later classics like dexter's lab and the powerpuff girls.
I’m in the middle of this and have been hit with FACT after FACT without hearing REN & STIMPY this REN & STIMPY that wow good job. This cartoon was a breath of fresh air just like The Pirates of Dark Water was. I can’t believe that one didn’t take off.
I enjoy what I've seen of 2 Stupid Dogs and I do agree that it should be appreciated more for it being the precursor to the Cartoon Cartoons I was wondering, what VPN did you use to access HBO Max Latin America? I've been thinking about maybe getting a VPN myself, so I can access some of the shows that aren't on HBO Max USA
2 Stupid Dogs used to air on CN back in the mid-2000s I remember they played them every Sunday morning before lunch time those days most kids would be either in the mall which was a tradition back then and was probably used as filler!
@@alexis_ian it was the 1990s when it was aired on Cartoon Network as reruns although it was on TBS along with Swat Kats: Radical Squadron & The New Adventures of Captain Planet and THOSE were aired on Cartoon Network too.
Anyone know the name of the episode where they realize a bunch of stuff had a made in China label, but they read it as "maid" in China and wanted to visit her because they thought she was sending them a bunch of stuff? I heard my 3 y/o niece read a made in China label and immediately tried to recreate the scene almost 30 years later!
@@ToddDolce ammm I'm not the one who's offended by it...I live for these in my childhood. Now to me they're classics but YES ppl are offended by them today whether u see it or not.
One of the more underrated Hanna Barbera cartoons. I loved it when I was a kid

Good thing it did too, as it allowed me to get better quality footage of S2 than I otherwise would've had to use.
You nailed man! Without 2 Stupid Dogs, a talent pool animators, designers and scriptwriters for the next 15 to 20 years didn't exist and CN didn't turn what it was during its glory days. Incrdible!
I didnt realize this show had such a short run. I kinda miss this type of comedy in cartoons though (minus the dog peepee lol)

Glad you loved the video! I tried to make it as good and thorough as I could.
@@toon4thought Well you did a fabulous job!
2 Stupid Dogs was like the "Seinfeld" of 90s cartoons. It made zaniness out of ordinary situations---AND I LOVED IT!

I know, they don't even have many of his episodes but only 13
Jules likes to think of 2 Stupid Dogs as Hanna-Barbera’s version of R&S.
Both are hilarious.

I always saw 2 Stupid Dogs as a tame alternative to Ren and Stimpy.
The episode with the fake Brady Bunch is prolly my favorite.
Love the style and editing with this video. Great job 👍
This video quality is wonderful and the content is of course so incredibly informative and fun!
You mentioned Ren and Skimpy and I was like. "Yes!".

To be fair if I were lost in outer space, food would be pretty high on my list of priorities. 💁🏾♂️

I was searching UA-cam for a review of the show so I could prove to myself the show wasn't some fever dream. 😅 These cartoons were my jam.
Did you know that the first couple of Cartoon Network shows with the Hanna-Barbera branding on it weren’t actually produced by the studio.
The studio itself didn't exist until the year 2000 I think, so yeah.
I loved secret squirrel more than 2 stupid dogs, just love the jazzy sophistication and bond like vibe, heck it did better than the original
I remember seeing the Stripper joke on a Boomerang rerun, I'm shock that that wasn't cut out in the 2010 re-airings.
Pirates of Dark Waters, Swat Katz is some of the most underrated cartoons.
Oh so THIS is where I was introduced to secret squirrel !

I miss 2 Stupid Dogs, why couldn’t this be on Amazon Prime Video or Max!
So in other words, 2 stupid dogs was to 90s-2000s cartoons as The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack was to 2010s cartoons.
I miss the 90's so much.
This is an experimental animated show from Hanna Barbera/Turner Entertainment in the early 1990's.
I'm just happy to see people still talking about 2 stupid dogs and super secret squirrel
2 Stupid Dogs was awesome. So simple, so classic. I loved how it was basically a G rated Ren and Stimpy.
Such a forgotten classic. This show was very interesting for me when I was like four or five.
Even to this day, 2 Stupid Dogs still highly holds up. 2 Stupid Dogs is one of my all time favorite shows.
Thanks for uploading this video 🙂
I like the guy who says, "Well isn't that cute?...BUT IT'S WROOOOOOOONG!!!" 🤣🤣🤣
i still come back to this show on yt due to Red "tralalalalalala la la" ! it's always stuck with me and im 37 now.
Oh my goodness thank you for this.
Spielberg, Disney, and Hanna Barbera went nuts with letting artists do what they wanted.
Great insights and research, thank you!
They couldn't remake this if they tried... it would be "2 Silly Dogs" and bomb immediately.
because we became so hypersensitive that stupid became a quote unquote "slur"... good job gen z/alpha...
I think Big Dog’s beady eyes are cute .0.!!!

The Noah's Ark episode was my favorite. I wish i could find it again.
Funny how this show came out after Darkwing Duck ended its run and casted the latter's lead actor in the former.
WHEN YOU SAID GD QUARTER I LOST IT!!! LOLOLOL
secret squirell could have gone on for quite alot of seasons
How come a lot of people aren’t reviewing the show since it’s recent airing on MeTV Toons?
I love Secret Squirrel a little more than the 2 Stupid Dogs
Years Ago 2 Stupid Dogs Is Coming Back From The New Designs Of 2 Stupid Dogs In Jellystone Please Yesssssss Ok
I'm surprised Seth MacFarlane wasn't among the creators. He must have been attending RISD then.
What did you mean when you said an uncomfortable amount of vore? Where was a fetish of being consumed implied? Or was that misheard? 10:40
Secret squirrel yaaay 🥺😄
How come it dont have 2 stupid dogs episodes only 10 seconds vid an 5 seconds vid do they have the full seasons
season 3 and season 4
Isn't that cute..... BUT IT'S WRONG!
That sheepdog has a big nose!😊
I'll take two stupid dogs over the snookums and meat show anytime.
Where can we watch this now? Or but them?
I watched super secret secret squirrel like years ago believe me it’s was awful because it scares me it’s a long story
#callingsupersecretsecretsquirrel
25:35 No. Too diseased!
Well ain’t that cute but it’s wrong honk
Ain't that cute. But it's wrong!
I lost IQ points watching this show
I'm pretty sure it had nothing to do with the show :^)
