This is Grandma from Texas. I was working in my yard on Sunday. I stepped back and realized I had stepped on something it felt like a rubber baseball my grandkids had been playing with. When I looked back I realized I had an adult copperhead under my left heel. I am 70 years old but I ran like I was 15 years old screaming like a wild Indian. I do not understand why he didn’t bite me. He was beautiful but I feel like God saved me. Why didn’t he strike???? I am familiar with snakes because I watch your channel. I have learned so much about their behavior and what they look like. I sure dodged a bullet Thank the Lord and thank you so much.

Ok so I'm still new at this, continuously learning, the first time I counted 9 rattles, I went back to make sure then I counted 10 Lol, but I really wanna say 10 rattles.

Man, one of ya newest members of "The Stretch Gang" here, enjoying another video. Man...that Tiger Rattler of yours really DON'T play! I thought that that Rat, though, woulda been dead from that first strike, long before he was. How old is your Tiger Rattler? Just curious. Anyway, watchin' the time lapse between the bite, and the beginning of the eating process, reminds me of when I boil eggs for Breakfast. It ain't gonna take just one to two minutes for the Water to start boiling. No, sir! That water needs a few minutes to go from cool to boiling...and then, there's the eggs. Ya put 'em in the boiling water, and boil 'em for about 11-12 minutes, then run the eggs in cool water, peel 'em, and then salt and eat 'em.
My point is, that from the time of the Rat getting envenomated, to the time that the average Snake begins enjoying it's meal, is usually between 5-10 minutes. My central point, is that all good things take time, but they're well worth waiting for. If your Snakes could talk, they'd tell everybody that very same thing!
As we both know: Good things come to he who waits!

Rats have more protein than mice so provide better nutrition if a snake is large enough to handle rats, but I haven't found a lot of information on the difference nutrition wise, between US rats and African soft fur (ASF's) that are from Africa.
For some snakes who for whatever reason, have become picky eaters, sometimes an ASF is just the thing to get them eating again and for any African species of snakes who live where ASF's live, they would be a natural prey species so a great choice for a picky eater.
