Shadow Of The Beast on the Amiga was one game that could not be touched; even with written instructions, basically, other systems could not hit the heights the Amiga hit with that game. Still amazes me to this day, the graphics/sound of the Amiga version, just perfect.
@@miggy4eva980 Regarding graphics and animation, you are absolutely right. However, although the soundtrack is also technically great, the Amiga's is still better. The mood on FM Towns just doesn't sound right, it feels disconected from the game's eerie atmosphere.
I was very impressed by the graphics, parallax scrolling and music when I first played this on the Amiga 500 back in the day. However it's a very frustrating game, not very much fun to play.
The ST could not compete with Amiga however the ST version was a terrible port. Many demo's and mockups on the ST proved it could have been better. Apparently there was a 1mb version that was much better but the publishers didn't want to miss out on sales to 512k owners.
I still think it's pretty cool that the ones with animated intros have the guy's face from Beast 3 to retroactively show his original transformation. ...Sort of from Beast 3, I guess, because the FM Towns version came out a year beforehand so I guess that ending just used this one the other way around instead of what I assumed.
An anazing game and quite often described as a tech demo. It was stupidly difficult. Like a coin op difficult game. Albeit it was something to behold at the time and it showed off what was possible for the Amiga 500 at the time. The games was too difficult but it looked amazing and ahead of its time.
It's amusing that this video has all of the signage for the Mega Drive (UK) version of SotB, but the music and gameplay sure sound and look like the NTSC (US) version, where it's faster and slightly higher pitched because of the refresh rate differences between the two consoles.
The Atari Lynx version is a technical marvel, made some good gameplay changes, but lacked the flying section proper ending and if you knew what you were doing could be completed in under 1/2 hr. Not great VFM or what you wanted from a handheld title, really.
The lynx version is really good. Shame they used poor emulation here for the video because it doesn't show just how impressive the lynx version really was
Algorithm recommends, I watch. I used to have the sega master system version and ive always loved its interpretation of the intro music the best. I always sucked at the game, still have never finished it although thanks to emulation have played it on a bunch of platforms now too.
The SNES deserved better than an unfinished prototype with blown out overly bright colours that lose all the atmosphere of the original. You can see it still had potential, but it ended up as nothing really.
@@arnetrautmann9783 have been playing it since it's original release on Amiga, still play it today on the ps4 reboot/re release. Games not for everyone, it's a hard game to play, but it's no tech demo.

the game itself isn't that great..the amiga version has all the visuals and sound but that's it...the gameplay is boring.
How is the FM Towns version in any way not vastly superior to the Amiga?

Even the C64 version has (pseudo-)parallax scrolling, that's pretty impressive.

The CD sound of the FM Towns and The PC Engine Super CD-Rom is fantastic. The sid sound of the C64 version makes also fun.
The Amiga Sharper graphics-wise, superior sound-wise , They drew me in.

Just notice that there is en error in C64 haha the is a PYSGNOSIS wooow....never seen that :)
Amiga version was better than all except maybe the Super NES. that said, its amazing what the programmers did with just 64K RAM in the C64 version

Peter Johnson etc had started converting graphics etc over for a conversion for the ill-fated Atari Panther version.

Visually stunning and sounds great but that is all...Relying too much on the graphics..the gameplay was tedious and boring.
