Great video! You're 100% correct. I converted my KTM 500 4 months ago and I'm obsessed. The most fun on 2 wheels to date. Yes I've broken both arms and some ribs learning stoppies and yes I'm in the process of recovering from some pretty bad road rash from a wheelie gone wrong at the moment. I'm 45 years old, sitting here like a little kid watching your video, just counting the days before I can get back out there and start ripping again.

Yooooo…43yr old riding a street legal ‘04 YZ450F Supermoto conversion outta HOU,TX! I’ve owned the bike for ~6yrs and it’s a blast to ride. Bought the bike in motocross form. I did the entire supermoto conversion myself. After the bike passed state inspection I had to surrender my OFF ROAD USE ONLY title to the DMV for an ON ROAD USE title. Took about two or three weeks for the ON ROAD title and registration to come in the mail; that was a glorious day! Been nothing but smiles since 😊😊😊 Love the vid! Keep’em coming!

So back in 1981 I laced up a set of rims so I could use my RM465 as a supermoto 😁 ran it in every class at every form of racing there was. These days I have a Hypermotard, agree that they're a bit heavy, these days, so am I. I prefer the riding position and extra suspension means that punting around the B & C roads is still an absolute hoot, and while I'm not as game as I was in my youth, I still get a buzz out of the odd jump, frequent wheelies and a bit of slipping and sliding, while still able to run transport stages in comfort 😁
I understand the buzz, getting old sucks 😎

I started riding 2 yrs ago best decision I ever made. Still kinda pissed I waited so long but anyways. I had a grom and Harleys and just recently built a supermoto. It is by far and away the best I've come across so far. The supermoto gives u the best of everything. Handling, Power, speed, weight, off road capability the list is endless. The supermoto is my bike of choice by far. It is so much fun it should be illegal lol. I built mine myself, I converted a 2011 husaberg 450fe. I'd recommend a supermoto everyday allday over any harley. They are just so much fun it's ridiculous. The attention it gets is crazy as well. If you don't want alot of attention do not get a sumo. Good vid and you some it up pretty well. Being a new rider I had no idea what I'd be into. I do love the Harleys but man the supermoto is just too much fun.

Nice video! A bit harsh on the Zero though, i took one for a test ride earlier this year. As someone more used to R1s, Gixxers, Fazers and more recently odd touring bikes like the Niken 3 wheeler, i felt that the zero power felt like a 600cc middleweight up-to around 80mph yet as light as a 125! So chuckable! But i nearly dropped it leaning too far into a corner because of fresh tires! I was live streaming at the time, perhaps ill post the link of my ride/review. The zero is a capable machine and cheap to run.

Regarding your comments, I reckon you’d get maybe 2 hours continuous ride from the Zero assuming you weren’t flooring it everywhere. Then 40 minutes to charge, which isn’t bad.
Given our infrastructure in the UK you do need to plan your journeys a bit more careful than a traditional petrol bike.
In short, I think the Zero is great *second* bike assuming you have the infrastructure.

After the first month of riding, I knew it wasnt a real supermoto.
But in fact in its own insane class of fun.
Take a normal supermoto, give it TOO MUCH torque, and no maintence. Its a hard bike to sell, even though i dont ride it. If i want to smile, i rip it down my street, no one is bothered, my thrills are satisfied.
In terms of supermoto, the Zero FXS misses a lot of marks i miss. Shifting, super light, the NOISE!!!, suspension, etc. Zero Fxs is not a true sumo

Great video! After outgrowing my first off road bike, a WR250R it was converted to a motard. Other than the lack of power I absolutely love the bike. Compared to my ZX6R and my Harley, the WR feels so light and nimble it's intimidating. I'll probably buy/build another based on a KTM 500 EXC-F to get the power I desire. Regarding the reason we don't see more motards on the road may have to do with comfort and practicality. While my WR with a Seat Concepts aftermarket seat is very comfortable, my KTM 250 is not. Most competition level dirtbikes come with narrow seats which are not the greatest on the butt. Plus, most people want the power and torque for commuting. Big bikes tend to have more torque and wider gear ratios which means less shifting light to light. Simply put, motards are fun toys but not great for commuting practically.

You pretty much hit it right on the head about AMA Supermoto. It had a good run for about 4 years, but they never knew how to build it. Rather than start it with a set of regional series and championships, they went right to the national championship with not much of a real sponsorship or TV package. It was fun and I lost a ton of money racing that year, but I could see the writing on the wall. What is considered the championship right now is a 4 race series out West. So sad because these are so much fun. I'm converting my KTM525 to street legal because there is nowhere close to race, so we'll go hit up the parking lots and backroads around here.

What ever I wanted to do, it would do with panache. Want to go fire roading? Sure, just don't hit any huge bumps! Want to go touring?. Sure, put a Rotopax on the back and go. Want to play at Supermotard? Sure, I can do that! The bike was serene in every situation, never did anything untoward. And the engine was just amazing. I went down one tooth on the countershaft sprocket and that made it very happy putting around town. I calculated it would do 126 mph in 6th at 10,500 rpm. Oh, come on, it will never pull that in 6th! Yes, it did. The bike was utterly amazing.

I had a Gilera Nordwest in the days and it was fun, but a pain when I had to travel, even not so long distances like 600 km. Anyway, it was Italian and not very reliable, so I got a more reasonable bike. Now I had to buy an auxiliary bike, as my cruiser is a Victory Vision which is difficult to maintain due to Polaris dropping the brand. So I got a second-hand Duke 690, planning to use it around town, in short trips and so on. But it was so much fun and not really that bad for long trips that I ended using it for everything, even going to rock festivals more than 2000 kilometres away on it. Of course, I cannot do the Iron Butt runs of 2100 km in 18 hours straight that I did on the Vision - anything over 1000 km straight becomes really painful - so I have to do more stops and the Duke does not draw all the looks as the Vision, but it can carry almost as much and uses even less gas. It's not a true super-motard, but it's the closest while still being usable for many more things.
More important, at 70, it has rejuvenated me half a century... 😛

I just got ahold of a really nice KLX250 for dirt cheap ($2000, less than 5000 miles). Yeah it's not as fast as my 04 CR250 2 stroke was (or any of the countless other dirt bikes I've had over the years), or the 2 R6s I've owned but I've really been enjoying riding it.
Since I got it so cheap, I'm gonna go ahead and do a sumo conversion on it & get the Bill Blue 351 big bore kit for it.

It was rediculous..! :D Even put back pegs on it and took my girlfriend (she was thin and small) for fun rides.. She loved it too! The bike hardly ever saw any dirt.. On race days I'd take it to the track and park this gleaming red and gold god next to the Maico team from the shop.. happy for free promotion! Like you, I wondered why I was the only one..?

I’m converting my 17 crf450r with only 35hrs on it to a sumo over the winter. had a husqvarna 450 wr 2stroke in the late 70s enduro setup with lights and the dmv actually gave me a tag for it but i didn't push my luck/law on the street(no mirrors ,turn signals, knobby tires) just to get to the trails or off-road areas nearby but man what a blast handled great power slides, wheelies no prob hardest part was keeping the front wheel down loved pulling out on to the road and in about 3 seconds being right next to a car, doing 45 to 55, that u pulled out behind on the road freaked out a few then getting to a offroad area and shooting off the road thru a ditch great escape style ( except no fence crash) most fun on 2 wheels ever of all the motorcycles i've had, street and dirt , that's the one i miss the most traded it on a 79 sportster while in the marines cuz i needed more of a commuter/street bike these new ones , like u showed , get me really wanting to give it a go again

It’s America. That’s why the Series never took off. It didn’t make it in the early 80’s “the Superbikers” I think it was called. You got to watch Wayne Rainey, Eddie Lawson, Magoo to name a few of the greats of the time and on a non cable channel. During prime time. Ioved it! The dirt and pavement mix was a great idea. But, America just offers to many other things to pull you away. The fan base was very limited then, just like now. Wish it took off. Great vid and glad your into it. Ride on!

The big manufacturers don't want to lose the sales of their big conventional street bikes and they know the supermoto platforms are going to kill the market for the more profitable sleds they all offer. This is the same reason the big four never really got behind the sport to begin with in the early 80s.

Hell, I am in my 50's and I want one. Seems like the 450s and 500s are where it is at, not to mention I am to big for something smaller (6'5" tall). I love motorcycling because of the freedom and I have had many different types of bikes, but supermoto seems like the free~est of the free. I like the saying, "It is better to ride a slow motorcycle fast than a fast motorcycle slow." There is a lot of truth in that. Considering driving around town a lot this seems like a lot more fun than riding a Gixxer at speed limitish speeds. Definitely on my bucket list.

I come from Greece, a small country with bad roads in the cities, and plentyful curvy roads in the countryside
I own a 690sm 2007 with an added wind protection so that when highway is needed, 140-150km is ok
I avoid highways of course and the rest of the country is my playground, the more twisty the better
In addition, I have some enduro experience as a kid, thus I can take my sm to almost any deserted beach in the summer months, I just stand up and make my knees part of suspention
I use pirelli mt 60, they work amazingly on the road, both dry and wet, and also on dirt they're decent

yeeeeessss supermoto gang! a lot of people ask why you want to ride supermoto when sport bikes are faster and the simple answer is that supermotos are the most playful bike. you can do litterally anything on them, slide them, wheelie, stoppie, anything inbetween, they are simple, cheap, very durable (since they are a dirtbike) and although they might not be the fastest around the track they are still not far behind other bikes and they have they make up for that in all of the other amazing benefits they have.
