Jim Norton & Sam Roberts | One More Month

  • The Jim & Sam Show had their contract extended yet again, keeping the show on the air until the end of 2021. This contract negotiation has been going on for a while now, with talks of Sirius XM cancelling Jim & Sam going all the way back to June of 2021. With no contract set in place for the future, Jim and Sam took to the air on November 30th for what they, and their fans, assumed to be their last show... only to disappointingly reappear on the air December 1st.
    Will they be back in 2022? Will Sirius sign them for a long term contract? Will they extend the contract for yet another month? Here's hoping the answer to all three of those questions is no.
    From Tough Crowd, to Opie & Anthony, Jim Norton has now been doing a show with Sam Roberts for half a decade, meaning this show has been on the air for twice as long as Tough Crowd was, further solidifying the fact that there is no justice in this world.
    My advice: Cancel the show.

    They should offer Jim his own show, based on 3 caveats;
    1) There is a revolving rota of professional comedian co- hosts;
    2) NO airheaded Instagram models, sex workers, or anyone who makes money from Onlyfans;
    3) Sam is paid a retainer of $100 a week, and in return gets a make a 5 minute guest appearance once a month, to tell listeners how terrible his life has become, and be mocked by the hosts/ guests/ callers.

      If he had the confidence to say fuck the Sirius management and left to join Ant half a decade ago they could have transitioned into the podcast world with a massive following and potentially make crazy money.
      In a perfect world that would force Opie to beg Ant for a job where they should pay him less than half of what Jimmy gets, make Sam an intern again who somehow officially outranks Opie, bring on all the old shows staff and guests who hate Opie and just bully him relentlessly until he has an on air meltdown that'd make Fez Whatley cringe with embarrassment.
      They could bring on Ronnie B to replace Opie's spot with no bosses, total creative freedom, and the three funniest broadcasters in the history of radio ready to be the kingmakers of podcasting.
      But fat tits decided to be a pussy about it and five years later it's just boring and sad. Boo

    I never listened to Jim and Sam until a few months ago when I listened to a few episodes, and kind of enjoyed it, until that is I realised what I was kind of enjoying was hearing people from this thing I loved that ended forever ago still doing things. That novelty wore off, and I realised it was extremely mediocre, and went back to just listening to old O&A episodes constantly. No talk show of any kind on any platform has ever been as good as O&A, was, and no talk show ever will be again.

    The legacy of Opie and Anthony has not come from the original hosts of the show, but from what the show inspired. The long form interviews of the Joe Rogan Podcast. The Jocktoberings of Who Are These Podcasts. The comedic riffings of Kill Tony, Legion of Skanks, and Cum Town. The topical commentary of Yannas Pappas and Tim Dillon.
    It’s about being “above all, real”. We spend hours listening to old radio bits of an unfunny disc jockey, a Long Island racist, and a worm shaped pervert because they were real conversations. I’d say that any show that keeps it real, keeps it honest regardless of whether it is a live show or an edited one, is carrying on the O&A legacy.

    It's been over and we need to all stop being Uncle Ricos and realize Norton isn't going to stand for anything in this time and age of persecution no matter where he is. I used to think stuff like "Okay, only 2 years and 6 months until the Jim and Sam contract ends. Then maybe Anthony will hire them." Through that waiting period I've coped and dgaf what they do anymore.
    Anthony and Gavin working together is the only thing I can imagine being worth consistent focus.

      Probably not, they need good background members and staff that's involved, Jim on compound is great for 5 minutes but its not o&a, chip use to be funny with the audience and phone calls and being mean, but now it's just him doing puns while ant asks xia does she know some actor that's been dead 60 years. They need a combination of things to even get close to classic o&a

    Yeah. I love Jim Norton, but you're right. There's this video online of this mother monkey carrying around her baby that was dead. It looked pretty decomposed and she'd obviously been carrying it around for awhile. But it's not what you'd expect. Momma monkey learned that people felt sorry for her when she carried the dead baby, and they'd give her tons of food so she ran with it.
    To me, that monkey mom and dead baby is the Sam and Jim Show. Time to bury the dead baby.

    For the most part I think you pretty much nailed it. What I am kind of skeptical about is the idea that we can get "funny" Jimmy again, at least in any capacity remotely resembling the O&A days. The dude is in his 50s, I'm not saying he wants to retire any time soon but it's the age most people starting thinking about it. Hoping to get the same energy and drive from him at this stage of his life might just be plain unrealistic, J&S or not.
