Toyota 20R to 22R Swap - 22R Teardown - 02

Tearing down the 22R in preparation for paint, and new parts.
Swapping out the Toyota 20R, and swapping a Toyota 22R. A brief overview of what is needed to complete this swap, and what my current setup currently looks like.

How much you want for it

I like this but would be cool to see a tool sound calm version or version with lower music. Instead of fast forward perhaps b-reels of key points during the video. Full length version in fast forward on a separate video or something. I have a 20r that needs A LOT of work but looks promising to me. I think there was something wrong with the guides on it was well one of the bolts under the cover got ate up. Seems to be a common problem on 20r.

Yeah the guides seems to be an issue with most used 20 or 22rs. Especially if they have the plastic guides. Thankfully it’s easy to replace.
As for the video I will be making a long video with just the b roll I recorded 🍻

I am restoring a RV with a 20R engine in it And need to remove the timing cover. Do I have to remove the oil Pan?
To get the timing cover off

I’m not 100% sure. I know the oil pan bolts to the bottom of the cover but I’m not sure if the pan can stay when the cover comes off.

No loosen some of the next bolts from the front of the engine and you can gain enough clearance to remove the cover

I don't quite understand why you'd only put in new chain guides, instead of just installing a complete new timing chain set (chain, gears, guides, tensioner) while you have everything apart(?) The complete CLOYES 94148S Set is under $50 on Rock Auto.. If I was going to keep the engine/vehicle for any length of time I'd rather have the peace of mind of knowing the timing set is all good. Just asking.

Totally understandable. I should have specified this in the video but the plan wasn't to completely overhaul the engine, but to take care of a few important parts. My original plan with this engine was to take the block, and install the early 20R head. Building a hybrid engine was the ultimate goal with the 20r, and this 22r. So I didn't want to replace anything I couldn't swap over. I was also looking into the possibility of converting it to a dual row chain. Ultimately I'm moving the camper onto another chassis so I won't be using these engines any longer.
