This extract comes from a 3-part series in which the Grammy-winning producer revisits the making of “A&W”. Filmed at Rue Boyer Studios where the record was mixed, Jack explores the performance and recording techniques that contributed towards making this standout track.

Every artist deserves a producer who can see their faults because they dont worship the ground they walk on. That's all hype for marketing, producers should be above that and not fall for hype. Artists need producers that push them, not baby them.

I have so many words Lana deserves of, but I limit with only a few of them because there are already people who has begun worshipping Lana. Lana is a good Christian and she knows we should control ourselves when we admire her and her songs. I have no doubt Lana is one of the very best singers, one of the super stars in the music world.

This really amazes me because, even though i love all of the songs he has produced for Lana, as a fan I can see the huge difference between after and before he appeared in her music, and the thing is all of these songs he produced, they give the same vibe, yes they’re good, but there’s nothing else. There’s no drama, no cinematic feeling. I don’t know, it’s just my opinion

This is why the people who hate Jack Antanoff annoy me. He is a producing genius. He cares about the art of producing, not just simply making things sound cool
I think the issue people have with Jack can be split into two camps. The first dealing with his personal life. There is evidence of him and another celebrity effectively harassing someone they don't like. The whole incident felt like high school mean girls. Not a great look. The second group of people look to him as a one trick pony with limited range. Lana sounds like lana, and that's great, her song writing carries that, but when he tries to branch out from his "sounds" for his artists, it's really never great (See Solar Power). Other than that, his sound is usually very similar in production. Again, a lot of producers do that, and he's done some beautiful work. I am just laying out the opposing argument. It's also hard to compare him to current producers like Finneas, or long time producers like rick Rubin, where their sonic catalog is all over the place. Again, he is very good at what he does, but there is argument to be made that he doesn't have much range.

@@matthewstreacker7402 Don't disagree, but I think this overlooks how influential Anne was over that album and its direction. The woman is a savant. Her albums prior to are just as good. And Masseduction is good, but by no means her best album; most approachable? Sure. But again, Jack doing the heavy lifting himself doesn't offer much. I think his solo work/work with Bleachers shows that. His new single is basically a cosplay of Springsteen. Doesn't offer much at all. But when he is paired with someone with serious talent and their own ear/view? He does good stuff.
