A show that was a part of my life for 47 years. I miss it to this day.
I was really disgusted by the lack of respect for the Lisa character in this final episode, who was an integral part of this soap's success in the glory years. Resigned to a hallway and being a third wheel for John and Lucinda? That was so utterly wrong. Eileen Fulton is a soap legend and she deserved preferential time in this finale.
I believe the writers were angry with her for previously speaking out against them for not giving long term older characters storylines. So they wrote a nasty ending for her. It was disrespectful for sure.

Still upset to this day about this. Final scene should of been Lisa and Bob.

The only soap I watched. Started watching with my mom in 1984 (85-91 was the best era of ATWT) while she watched it from debut episode.
I started watching in 79 or 80 with my mom ...I miss it a lot .
I was in the 4th grade in Clinton ,Tenn. Where I had my first recollection of ATWT. That was about 1953 I believe. Could have been ‘54. Penny was a teen ager, Bob and Lisa were madly in love and Pennys Aunt was carrying on behind everyone’s back with Ellen’s dad on their lunch hour.
I would run home from school to watch it with my mother. I grew up with those Huses(miss spelled). I watched it up until after my children were born and half grown and I needed to go to work outside the home. Then it was taped. I had saved the last tape in my forever collection only to come home one day and found my son AND his father had taped a Dallas Cowboy football game over the top of my precious AS THE WORLD TURNS!!!
Can anyone top this. That was in the 1980’s. I’m still mad at those two about that.

I was a child when I watched the soap opera with my mom. Her favorite character was Dr. John Dixon.
They need to bring it back I miss guiding light and as the world turns so much
I miss ATWT. My late Mom and I, watched it together, every day. I miss my Mom, so much!
As the World Turns was cancelled because the storylines in the last ten years before the show left the air were terrible. Constant recasting of characters was a huge turnoff.

I respectfully disagree. I thought the show was great until the very last episode. It was canceled because it was getting too expensive for the network to produce. It's much cheaper to produce talk shows. This is the very same reason why Guiding Light was canceled. It's all about money, not the fans. Sad to see the soap opera genre fading into the abyss.

I agree with what others who stated how they were upset how they treated Lisa on the final show. She wasn't treated very well. But my question is where was Emma Snyder? No she wasn't on as Eileen Fulton; but the Snyders were an integral part of Oakdale for along time. And Emma was the matriarch. She wasn't even mentioned on the final show.
Miss this soap opera so much would record it every day

My mother watched As The World Turns when it debuted in 1956 and she followed it through most of its run. During the 190s, when she was working, we would videotape the show on our VHS videocassette recorder, and she would watch the show when she got home from work. I used to watch it with her before I was old enough to start school, and I remember Grandpa Hughes, Judge Lowell, and especially Chris and Nancy Hughes and their children Bob and Penny. I actually remember the episode in which Penny married Jeff Baker. The series was broadcast live in those days, and I remember several mistakes and fortten lines through the years. I feel I honor my mother when I write these memories.
Once this and Guiding Light were canceled, I pretty much stopped watching daytime TV.
Well, after these were taken off the air soap operas died.

I’m glad Chris and Katie moved into Tom and Margo’s house.
Paul and Emily made a lovely couple.
My late Mom watched this soap from the beginning and saw it to the end. She and my grandmother watched the episode when Walter Cronkite came on and announced JFK's death in 1963.

The way they treated lisa in this episode was shoddy!! ..tarnished the ending..
Roger Howarth played a great Paul Stenbeck.
I liked Roger Howarth when he played Todd Manning on One Life to Live.
I miss As The World Turns on CBS, but all good things must come to an end.

As the world turns was one of the best shows ever. They had amazing actors like John, Lisa and Lucinda. And memorable writers like Douglas Marland. Cancelling this show was defies bad decision.

She had a short stint on Ynr as Fiesty Diane Jenkins . they killed her off shame because she was best Diane jenkins ynr had

Martha Byrne left the soap because of a pay dispute. Martha's husband, Michael McMahon was convicted and thrown in prison.

Watching these old commercials has been interesting, especially the one with the guy digging a hole while a voice says "we're 13 trillion in debt" 2023 says "hold my shovel!"

No. The show premiered in 1956 and Don Hastings joined (as Bob) in 1960.

I like Katie with Chris. I think they made the right decision recasting Chris cause I don't see the Chris before this one with katie at all. He was too young. My point is I still wish that they never killed off Brad. He should be the one with Katie and the news should've been that Katie was pregnant again.
Katie was always meant for Simon.

I remember when Kim Hughes had heart surgery after having a heart attack.
John operated her, I remember it too.

I like to think they ended up together. They were my favorite too. Loved them from the beginning.
@@T.Calder-dm3by maybe just my opinion but in the final episode it looks like they are open to the possibility but not going to push it. Let it happen if it is meant to be. That is hopeful, at least. Not how I’d have wanted, but as long as they are willing, there is a way.
Holden and Lily have always loved each other. No matter how far apart they were or who they were with. They always find their way back to each other. This time can’t be different. Their love, their chemistry had fans watching for decades. In my mind- they did find their way back to each other. More mature, more accepting and having learned to truly value each other in their lives ( no more 3rd parties interfering) 😊
Oh how I miss ATWT 😢 still mad about them killing off Reed, Luke deserved a happy ending too.

@@Manuel-zo3wg You mean the globe on the desk lighting up and spinning was saying "Even though this soap has ended, the world still keeps turning"? Was the lights being turned off supposed to symbolize the end, and the globe lighting up was so people could see it?

All of Arizona and all of Florida were happy, and all of Indiana was sad to see As the World Turns end its run on CBS with its final episode as this was a way to say goodbye, and CBS did this with Guiding Light one year earlier, like NBC did with Another World 11 years earlier. And now The Talk and Let's Make a Deal air as replacements to this day on CBS.
