I have a 2005 XK8 and am thinking of getting an XKR when it comes time to update. But the XK8 will get every upgrade she deserves and will stay in the family.
I agree that this one is a future classic. One of the most beautiful shape of its era. I believe you described well its advantages and you successfully highlighted what such a car can provide to its owner.
My '02 has 155k miles on it. The driver seat controls and the convertible top stopped working but the rest of the car is still great. Mechanically, these are very reliable.
The media has fooled the buyers, it’s geography they still burn fossil fuel to charge an EV. Electric is a fad that will be superseded by hydrogen, the cost of minerals will out way the cost / value and yes I will also be able to open a garage door & start a V8
As an owner of xkr 100 convertible I can just confirm everything you claim. Such a beautiful car inside and outside and so silky smooth and comfortable…..
I have to say, I was never a big Jaguar fan, however this car changed me and prefer in many ways to a Mercedes SL which’s hard, characterless, lacks soul and would never have been as comfortable. The long journey was one of the most effortless and stressless which was down to the car, the more miles I did the more I liked and loved it, silky power delivery, flowing lines and pure.
The XK8 is the spiritual successor to the E-Type, and it's far superior to the XJS in just about every respect. I'm predicting that values of the XK8 are on the brink of surging. XJS prices now make no sense at all- when you can have an XK8 for a fraction of the price. I recently purchased an early 4 litre car, which is immaculate, came with a full service history, a stage 1 Adamesh exhaust, in the rare Antigua blue colour. It was used by Jaguar as the Earl's Court Motor Show display car- which adds value. The XKR is a fine car- however, after doing some pre-purchase research, and reading period road test articles, I decided to avoid the XKR. Why? The extra poke brings nothing to the driving experience, and they have a tendency to blow head gaskets- expensive fix! I find the standard car fast enough, and due to the nature of the car, I rarely push it, it encourages the driver to cruise I find. Watch this space- XK8 values are going to soar- now that the inferior XJS is so expensive, it's next in line now for people to pile into.
I never warmed to the XJS, as for blowing head gaskets not been an issue, they are a beautiful cruising car the supercharger gives a wonderful smooth power delivery. I have no idea how the values of the XJS has gone up it was just a drama from day one, lost all that was beautiful at Jaguar. I agree the XK8 & XKR represent superb cruiser in style and comfort that does why a Jaguar does it purrs. Thank you for you comment and wish you all the best with your XK8 superb value.
i got a 2000 reg XKR and drive it daily i love it :D people today say how can you afford it i reply with simple Single No kids so i brought my dream car as a treat to myself :D
Jaguar was creating the new car which was moved to Aston Martin by Ford to become the DB7. In turn Jaguar had the chance to improve on what they had to create the XK8/R, I truly think they made the best of their new car being 'stolen' by creating the XK8/R. It is truly a homage to the E-type and a much more timeless car than the DB7 design in my opinion.
We were looking to buy an E-Type V12 coupe but the deal fell through so my husband suggested a XKR coupe instead. When the saleman showed us the 2000 Platimum XKR I grabbed my husband, pulled him out of earshot of the salesman & told him to buy that car. Our car was sold new with the R Performance up-grade & is a delight to drive.
I think you made a wise choice, a v12 coupe was never the one to own, when works it’s fabulous, trouble is, that it’s trouble. The XKR 100 is a special car and one that you will have pleasure for long excursions in comfort. This car reengaged my love for Jaguar. This is now for sale. ❤️🙏🏽
That’s a personal preference to the buyer / owner, it also depends what’s available at the time, the history and condition on either is far more important. An owner of either just wants to be proud of that sits putting in the garage awaiting to be driven, enjoyed and most of all loved. ❤️🙏🏽

Depends on what you think is the right side, and no not all are made right hand drive. Thank you for your comment.
