I definitely want to mention this. I forgot to ask DURING the interview but I have the answer regarding DAY OF THE DEAD.
- not only is the negative for the film lost, but the interpositive they used for the blu ray is now lost as well. So hold on to those blu rays. That may be all she wrote.
Watched mine the other day, kindof crazy that they didn’t even try to preserve it after scanning it for the Blu-ray’s. But thanks for the heads up Christian!

Really incredible interview. Its unfortunate that SF was nevar actually working on a boxset but hopefully this steelbook that's coming out is a good sign of things to come for the Nightmare Franchise. Finding out that the Sleepaway Camp sequels didn't do well in sales is quite shocking especially seeing what they're worth now lmao
When it comes to collecting VHS it really just comes down to that feeling of nostalgia. I am sure for most VHS collectors, they simply want to be able to capture that feeling of how they watched a movie for the first time. Our daughters have a vcr/tv combo in their room and our old VHS collection at their disposal, so their movie nights are similar to ours 30 years ago.
Such an excellent interview! There are so many knowledgeable people in the community and interesting subjects to cover but not enough people making it happen. Content like this is very refreshing. Congratulations on this accomplishment and please keep the insightful interviews coming! 🎉

@@tv26889 true. The argument they were able to make for Chucky even though it was an active franchise gave us some great content though. It would be nice to see not just Nightmare get it's due but also Freddy's Nightmares so I can retire the grainy dvd set I own.
@@Cwrproductions426 The 4k Masters is what made the individual chucky discs sell. Even that project was probably still a gamble because after parts 1-3, the enthusiasm for the series is mixed.

This is great hearing the man himself. I always figured there was licensing issues and such with releases not coming out but glad to hear him say it. The Elm Street movies the ball is in Lionsgates court so lets see what they do with it.

Regarding the LaserDisc discussion that you guys had, I was fortunate enough to have a couple of stores near me that sold them, and I was very well aware of the format. Luckily, I made friends with a guy who had a player courtesy of his father and I specifically went to his house just to watch movies on LaserDisc to see how much better they were than VHS. We flash forward 25+ years later, I have amassed a large collection of LaserDiscs in the thousands. I have a lot of titles that are exclusive to the format and you would have to hack one of my limbs off for me to get rid of a few of them. That being said, I agree that 4K collecting these days is pretty much equivalent to LaserDisc collecting back in the late 80s and early/mid 90s. Pretty much just a niche format.
If you ever want to have a in-depth discussion on the Laserdisc’s and want to do a video regarding the format, please hit me up. I have a wealth of knowledge that could be beneficial to the movie collecting community if people will just listen.
I'm actually going to be upset if WB does their own release for Nightmare on Elm St. It sounds like Cliff and his team have tried hard for years to get those movies and (even though Cliff is now with Arrow) I think Scream Factory's persistence should pay off. Plus there's no way WB is going to do as good of a job as they would have.
No you will probably get a crappy set again with 2 films on one disc like we already have

Great interview. When he talks about noone doing extended or feature length extras docs that's not true. Vinegar Syndrome immediately came to mind, especially on some of their premium 4k releases, such as TCM 2 and From Beyond, there are feature length docs and on top of that they still have so many other extras they can fill up the back of a box art. Spookies I think had 2 feature length docs so it can and is still being done. I have Amazon Jail from last year and there's a 1 hour video essay on women in prison films I still haven't gotten through.

Thank you so much for putting this together! This answers so many questions I’ve wanted to know for ages. Regarding the discussion for a potential 4K Halloween set, could you clarify something? Did he said they wanted to do a full 4K set, but the rights holder to 1-5 weren’t game, so they could only put 6-H20-Res together (per the contract with Paramount)?
What annoys me sometimes is when Blu-Tubers complain about boutiques upgrading releases to 4K. I get it that they want new titles we haven't seen, but there's plenty of us who have only recently re-entered the market who maybe weren't in the hobby yet, and then there's those of us that want everything upgraded to the best possible quality.
Some flicks don't really benefit from a 4k master and isn't in line with how the flick was supposed to originally look. The money they could use on a pointless 4k could be used for something that doesnt even have a blu release.
