    Thanks dude. I will try this out. Didn’t realize I needed to buy the wiring for the fog light. I forgot about that. I will have to do that next time. Thanks for the detail on the PIN numbers.😊

      @@StevesGarage I just finished installing the halo lights on. Now I will order the wiring from ecs to hook up the fog lights. I already have the head light switch from ecs but it’s useless unless you have fog lights. I even ordered the one for rear fog lights in case I ever get some.

      @@SanDiego_VDubLife Nice! I finally got a set of euro rear lights so I can hook up a rear fog, but I would need wiring and a switch. Not sure I really feel like going through all that right now, but it's nice to have the option.

      Awesome! Hope you enjoy them. Because they're hard wired, the fogs stay on with high beams which I think is my favorite thing about these.

    The yellow wire would be what?? Power?? Or simply a wire to send signal to the fog lights?

    • @StevesGarage

      The yellow is a signal wire. All it's doing is telling the relay to open or close.

    Where else could you run the positive and negative leads? Besides the battery.

    • @StevesGarage
      @StevesGarage  2 роки тому

      The negative lead is just a ground, so you can run that to anywhere that's a good ground. As far as the positive lead goes, it needs to be connected to a battery or similar power source to power lights.

    Hi Steve, thanks for sharing. Pls I have a bora with rear fog lights. I recently bought a new headlight with fog lights. I want to Use the existing fog light switch which has only rear fog light position to control both front and rear fog lights. How do I do that pls. Thanks.

    • @StevesGarage
      @StevesGarage  4 роки тому

      In order to do that you'd have to combine the wiring that goes to the pin for the rear fogs. While I think it may be possible, I don't know enough to say one way or the other. What you'd have to do is splice the control wire for the front fog relay into the wire that controls the rear. I don't know which pin that is without looking at a wiring diagram or a google search. You could certainly try it, though the better route would be to just get the correct switch.

    • @pauliroha5506
      @pauliroha5506 4 роки тому

      @@StevesGarage if I have to combine the wiring from the rear fog lights, would there be any need for the relay kit? From the wiring diagram, the rear fog lights re fed by a 15A fuse, combining these wires, won't that be too much load on the fuse? How about if I increase the fuse from 15A to about 20A or so? Thanks

    • @StevesGarage
      @StevesGarage  4 роки тому

      @@pauliroha5506 With a relay, the switch is just closing the relay to complete the circuit. That is a better way to wire something like lights because you don't have a full load going through the switch, the load of the lights is going through the relay. If you really want to combine them, you'd wire the front fogs properly, and have the control wire for the relay spliced into the headlight switch. That being said, I don't know how the rear fogs are wired, and it would be safer to make each it's own switch. Increasing fuse load is never a good idea. If it's wired to a 15a fuse, the wiring is probably only large enough gauge to handle that amount of amperage. Increasing by 5a might not be catastrophic, but in an extreme case it can start a fire. Also, if you have a problem with the wiring and the fuse blows, you don't know if it's an issue with the front fogs or rear fogs. Buying a new switch to accommodate both front and rear fogs would be the safest option. It's never a good idea to cut corners and start splicing things, especially cutting into OEM wiring and powering something like fog lights that have a larger draw than something like a dash cam.

    • @StevesGarage
      @StevesGarage  4 роки тому

      You can absolutely use this same method for auxiliary fog lights! Makes things cleaner inside too. You might need some different connections on the lights themselves, but it should work the same once all hooked up.

    • @StevesGarage
      @StevesGarage  2 роки тому

      The clips can be a struggle, but it should come out. Worse case scenario you could get a new clip from a junkyard or new clip. It would suck, but these cars are getting old, so plastic parts can get stuck, brittle, and break.

    Hi, on my car all I done was get the sport (gli) headlights an swap them with mine an also take the euro switch swap it an it all worked without adding that wire?!
    UK spec...
    Sportline edition = built in foglights including front/rear factory switch
    Highline edition = none foglights including rear fog light only
    I swapped headlights an switch. That's all
    Regards

    • @StevesGarage
      @StevesGarage  5 років тому

      I'm not familiar with UK cars, but for the US you have to add the wire if your car wasn't built with fogs or else there's nothing there to power them. I know of non VWs that have wiring for all the options built in (think one wiring harness for all build variations). With that type of setup if you want to add an option, it's just plug and play.
      Maybe because UK cars come with rear fogs the wiring is built in already? I'm honestly not sure. US cars don't need rear fogs, so there are only some euro cars come with them built in, otherwise you have to add that too.

      The GLIs came with front fogs. But yea, it's not law to have rear fogs here, though sometimes I wish it was. I live in a snow state, and they make a difference during a bad storm.

    • @SY-ml5nl
      @SY-ml5nl 5 років тому

      @@StevesGarage hi, that's crazy. If you don't have rear fogs which is the law in the UK then the fronts won't have no wire too.
      In the UK rear fogs are the law but the front are a extra payment option or a top spec standard item when the car is purchased new.
      So in the UK if you've got rear fog lights you bet you'll have the front wire already set up. I'll take a pic of my headlight swith from the back an forward it thru to you on here if it would be possible.
      Regards

    • @StevesGarage
      @StevesGarage  5 років тому
