I just wanted to let you know that I was looking for something about the Lyra crayons and your video was just perfect so thank you. Great idea to get a glass mat at the dollar store! You find the neatest inexpensive items to use. Nice to see the comparison. Wish the Lyras came in open stock. Maybe down the road. Thanks again for your videos!

    Good comparison. I bought the 48 set of Lyra a couple of months ago. They were $20 cheaper than the 40 set of Caran D’Ache. I really like them. One drawback you mentioned in your video is that the Lyra are not available as open stock. I believe each crayon will last a long time, but I will follow you suggestion and purchase the closest neocolor replacement if I run out of a color in my Lyra set.

      I agree. I do not like that either. I like the neocolor II a bit more than Lyra but they are very similar. I do like that the colors are different do building both in your stash gives lots of variety along with color mixing.

  • @ZannerBatman
    @ZannerBatman 3 роки тому +3

    It seems like you're using the same aqua brush for both crayons. That isn't really going to give a fair look at both colours. You should be using a different aqua brush, one for the Lyra and one for the Carn d'Ache.

    • @TwistedArtdesigns
      @TwistedArtdesigns  3 роки тому +4

      Zanner Batman I use water brushes every day. When you brush off the excess on a towel, which i do every time, clean water runs from the brush... no contamination. I am not taking the brush loaded with one, swatching it and then going right into the other product. You do not need two separate brushes to get clean swatches. Have you ever used a water brush? You squeeze it and it releases water, like rinsing the brush. They are pretty wonderful!

    Based on the way the way the pigment is spreading, I’m guessing you’re using cartridge paper. I’d be curious how they compare on watercolor paper. If I were going to use cartridge paper all the time, I wouldn’t see the point of shelling out on the neocolor. Kind of hurts watching people use expensive watercolor media on non-cotton paper…

    • @TwistedArtdesigns
      @TwistedArtdesigns  2 роки тому +1

      Neocolors are worth every cent. And after using both for years, I would say I like neocolor II slightly better than Lyra. And yes, I am using good quality paper here… either mixed media or watercolor. That is all I use. Artwork doesn’t not come out well on computer paper or cartridge paper as you call it. I have many art videos on my yt channel and always use quality papers and supplies. Have fun and try to be happy…. Art helps.

    • @Jennifer-wr9si
      @Jennifer-wr9si 2 роки тому +2

      @@TwistedArtdesigns It seems like you've taken offence where none was intended. I was not implying you were using cheap papers; there are plenty of 'high quality' mixed media and watercolour papers but at the end of the day, non-cotton based papers are not that great for water-based media and are often a major reason why people have problems with watercolors.

    Are the Lyra Aquacolors lightfast?

    • @TwistedArtdesigns
      @TwistedArtdesigns  3 роки тому +1

      Lyra states they are highly lightfast. I have never tested that. I use them in my art journals so they do not get exposed to much light unless you are looking through my journal. Lyra is a a good company so I would trust their word.

    With respect, this would have been a better comparison if you’d not actually used the same brush from one product to the next, thus rendering the comparison pointless. Both pigments are now mixed together. I appreciate your time though, please keep making videos. 🤗

    • @TwistedArtdesigns
      @TwistedArtdesigns  2 роки тому +2

      I am using a water brush. The chamber is filled with clean water and every time I switch colors or product brands, I am squeezing the brush to release clean water and clear the bristles. They are pretty slick tools! Better than a jar of water. So my comparison is valid. The products are not mixed.

    • @amvisions1
      @amvisions1 8 місяців тому +1

      You are going from 1 to the other colour without a brake. So squeezing out the brush is not happening on several occasions. So the comment is valid.

    It drives me nuts that Lyra doesn't sell their crayons individually. There are crayons in their kits that I'll never use because they are weird colors that don't exist in the real world. There are others that I use all the time and would love to buy a bundle of each of these colors. It's the one thing about Caran d'ache that I like better. But Lyra are superior crayons. They blend better. Lyra's green colors are better and so are their "flesh" colors. The good thing is that you can blend both types of crayons together in a drawing.

    • @TwistedArtdesigns
      @TwistedArtdesigns  4 роки тому

      @@TwistedArtdesigns I went right to the Lyra company website and asked them if they sold crayons individually and they said "no" I don't understand why not. I hate having to buy a complete set just to get the colors I want and use often.
