I had a health scare last year that made me think a lot about my possessions. I am also an action figure collector. After some deep thinking, I kept thinking what happens to all these possessions if I was to get sick and possibly worse case not live from this health condition. After, I started getting rid of possessions in my house cause I felt this is what I needed to do . But It got me to thinking.... why do we own possessions and collect them in our house or apartments? What's the purpose of owning possessions if someday we will pass some day ? Nothing is permeant, but why do we collect things thinking we will live forever and get to enjoy them forever. I remember watching Fight Club and hearing that classic line in the movie. " You don't own things... things own you " I believe that material possessions keep humans from doing things they might love. I have been looking into Vanlife the last two years after my health scare. Seeing people living with just what they need opened my eyes on how much time and money people waste just to buy stuff to pack into their homes just to make themselves feel comfortable and happy. Thus, one day, we all will leave this planet... so.. why work work work work and waste money just to acquire objects? Am I the only person who thinks like this?
I hear you. I agree 100 percent. I became more minimalist in my life and it really takes the clutter away, mentally not just physically. I still have to declutter some but since I've done what I've done so far, my head is a lot clearer. We can't take it with us so why try to acquire things that serve no purpose in the afterlife? Now nature makes me happy. My furbabies make me happy.Family makes me happy. My spiritual journey makes me happy. Those are the real things a person needs and very minimal physical possessions. Take care. Blessings to you
You are a very cool brother. I have a cool brother but he lives far away and we didn’t stay close. I admire siblings that stay tight into adulthood. It’s good stuff.
massive respect to you for asking your sister for help and respecting her enough to ask for as little space as you could manage. I respect you so much, man. love your vids.
Great take on minimalism! I started my journey into it some years ago, and have gotten rid of most my possessions. I have roughly what would fit inside a van comfortably... long story! Not going to bore anyone here with that LOL 😄 I know how difficult it can be for people around you to 'get' the choice that you made. For one, it takes me weeks to purchase something (not talking about items we use every day), sometimes one or two months. After that time, if I really need it, or want it, then I will buy it. I fell in love with an 'Encanto' doll (Bruno Madrigal) and my mom couldn't understand why I wouldn't just buy it. After a couple of weeks thinking if I really wanted the doll in my space, I finally bought it. Thanks for sharing your insights 🌻 P.S. The book that I read about minimalism is 'Goodbye Things' by Fumio Sasaki. I strongly recommend 👍🏼
I am a world traveler. By necessity I condensed my worldly possessions to fit into a medium suitcase, a small suitcase, and a carryon bag. I found that I have everything I need. Minimalism is liberating. My fashion addiction means that I actually still have excess clothes and shoes.
Maybe the most down to earth, sensible video ive ever watched on youtube. Im getting ready to start a new life tomorrow and this hit home hard! I very much enjoy your videos and sometimes i feel like i owe you a fee for therapy! Thanks!
Hey man! just what I needed - a Bren catchup! Sorry to hear you're a bit under the weather, but it was nice to see your face and hear how you're going. Hopefully you can put out another video next week, even if it is just a chat and catch up without all your editing skills, just to keep the workload down for yourself. We all appreciate the videos, even if they aren't heavily edited. Stay safe! Nick
Great topic! You make great points about the presence of physical and mental clutter in our lives. Things and thoughts take up space that could be better used for more valuable things like time. It takes practice and is something I’m intentional about. I’m watching for that 1000 subscriber mark! ☮️
Hi Bren, hope you are feeling better! Thanks for the video today, your viewpoint on the declutter and minimalism was very helpful and gave me some needed clarity with stuff going on in my life. Thank you for sharing 👍
I agree brother I did the same got rid of clothes I never wore I gav😢my clothes to homeless shelter were they can use it.. I have plenty of clothes I wear the same ones most of the time they are clean so I’m good:: yea u don’t need all those extra things u will never going to u them ever!!
We all have too much. As a kid, we got a pair of shoes in the fall for school, but we wore them out before new ines came again!we even had them so,Ed, and new metal taps to save them! Used shoe polish too! Today, kids are greedy. We wore sandals or flip flops in summer. Loved them! Lol!
2015 I started paying off all my debts and minimizing my house by 2019 I was debt free including house and saved like crazy 2023 started traveling in my van eventually I'm selling the house my sons family is living in it. I have very few items but after traveling for 8 months I can downsize even more now 😊
I was wondering about all that , this why i asked about about storage rent. Mostly what is memorable and sensitive, like pics , cards , some stuff what you can't throw away or donate because of family or life memories.
Hey, Bren. You did good. I'm doing some tidying and minimizing lately. Not as much as you have, but some is better than none, right? Btw, Marie Kondo is no longer a minimalist as of January 2023 per a CNN interview. Thought you should know. Bright blessings. 💖
Wow thats alot,I have 2 Tops,3 pairs of tights,1 cardy and jandals,in winter i wear socks with my jandals,I had to move into my sisters garage after leaving everthing to my abusive partner but i didnt care,I didnt want him to be without as i knew he had no one and couldn,t cope,I,m very strong and i am very minilmalistic, spelt wrong.I live on nothing,I work part time so i dont need help but i,m poor but happy with the little things i have which is my darling dog,Zara the dog and my barn cat and the beautiful birds that fly outside ,the smell of sea air the smell of trees,I don,t have a storage unit nor do i have a apartment, you dont sound like a minimalist at all
Minimalism is not the same for everyone. As I said in the video, it’s not just about physical items for me but also about unnecessary thoughts and relationships too. Minimalism to me is letting go of things/thoughts/people that do not serve me in any way or bring me joy. Also, everything that I own in my life (physically) is in my car and in a very small closet at my sisters house so I don’t know how that isn’t minimal lol. Cute dog btw, looks like Master Splinter!
It just never came up really. But I would love to have her on someday. Also, I don’t really do much food prep since my jackery blew out. I usually eat out once a day and that covers me.

It’s the stuff cycle story…….see it, want it, buy it, use it or not, take to dump ! Next, more of the same.
Exactly. I had a similar experience in 2014. ✌🏻💕
Very true comment!!!👍

I think that is easy to collect clutter but difficult to get rid of it donating to charity is great idea as it helps people in need and us

@@brenpgrace Your son is too handsome and big. I was picturing him to be little like 3 or 4. How old is he?

You're such a good son. I admire your POV on what is yours, as well as your perspective. "Minimalism of the Mind" ; love that !
Yes! Thank you!
Great powerful video. Keep up the good work
Much appreciated

Its not so simple. My job gives me stress but obviously I can not get rid of it 😊
I am definitely a minimalist!
Yeah those useless thoughts are stressful. Big time overthinker here 🤯
Good stuff
Appreciate it!

Hi bro, why wouldn't you invite your sister in one of your coming soon videos ?
And I'd like to ask for more food preparation in next videos.

I know you hit the gym so you must charge yourself properly.

It started in the closet? 4:32. Lol, kidding.
I did say that, didn’t I? 😂
Can you start an Amazon Store? on where you got your stuff? Also, you can make extra money ;)
That sounds like a great idea but i don’t know how to do that yet because I push a lot of products. I only push products/services I use and like.
Are you worried about the violence that's getting worse now ?
No
