      I do think it's best, in my opinion, to stick with one of the Top 2. I would not buy too much in Anacs holders, if any at all. I have none. When I first got back into collecting, I bought NGC or PCGS. I soon realized as time went on the mix and match thing wasn't going to work. You can't even fully use the inventory both companies provide (PCGS is SO much better). You can't even fit an NGC slab in a PCGS 20 slab box! So, I felt I had to decide one or the other. It wasn't even a contest. I liked the clear PCGS holders MUCH better. Why introduce a color when viewing a coin.... with its own color? I never understood that. I Think Gold looks very nice against a white background, but there shouldn't be ANY background. So many reasons. Resale value, the great inventory, and I felt PCGS had the more critical eye. Matter of opinion certainly. That was a bunch of years ago. Now I have over 400 clear plastic holders with coins in them. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

  • @KSASTAMPS
    @KSASTAMPS 9 місяців тому +6

    To prove something here you would have to send the NGC graded to PCGS for crossover (or crackout). The bigger thing it proves is that the grading companies are playing a big game of "pretend" precision: they pretend to be able to consistently distinguish a 1/2 point difference on the MS scale (MS65, MS65+, MS66, MS66+, etc) whereas they can and often do differ both between grading companies and within themselves as to a 1-3 point spread (as here). This often means big price differences on coins that have very little subjective difference in grade. Lesson: don't pay huge premiums for a 1 or 2 point advantage on the grading scale! Better yet, go buy AU58, where you can enjoy great looking coins for a fraction of MS64-MS67, and you don't have the constant threat of having your coins downgraded and losing 75% of their value.

    Oh, and if you still have the other coins from that roll, could always send those in for the pedigree label!

    I dont have enough experience submitting coins to personally say who is the stricter grader but from what I've heard, PCGS is certainly stricter on grading US coins and NGC can be better for grading world coins. In my experience:
    PCGS: better slabs, free coin boxes with submittion, better at grading US, strict on artificial toning/details coins, less biased, no collabs with companies like vaultbox, much better apps/ registry set, more expensive
    NGC: more variety of holders, ancient coin grading, grade more variety of coins, cheaper coins, slightly cheaper submission prices

  • @TheCoinBoxChannel

    When it comes to Libertads, NGC is muuuuuuch more strict with their grading, as evidenced once again in this video. NGC overall is the prefered service for mexican coin collectors and Libertad collectors. Also, PCGS will slab just about any artificially toned coin as naturally toned, whereas NGC is also much more strict, sometimes erring on the side of calling natural toning artifical. NGC aslo recognizes a lot more varieties on mexican coinage than PCGS, although unfortunately they don't always get it right. I just got a submission back from NGC which I will be posting soon.

    PCGS is way better grading foreign coins, but tougher on us coins.

    Guaranteed that here in Canada, both our graders would have returned these even lower in grades as our standards are quite strict.
    I know American coin collectors who buy Canadian-graded US coins paying a lower price due to the grade, and then would get them regraded in the US, receiving anywhere from 1 to even 3 points higher.
    The problem, though, for us Canadians is that when we see US graded coins in a store, we IMMEDIATELY negotiate downwards because when we see like an American MS-67, our brain says let's pretend it actually hovers just over an MS-63.

      @TtheSilverStacker ICCS is the most well-known, but CCCS is also in the marketplace and they are just as strict.
      If you were to ask me which of the two do coin dealers prefer to have in their showcase, again it goes to ICCS. In my opinion, they prefer ICCS only because they have been doing it longer so there's that perception of "market leader."
      I prefer both, but to be honest, I also have some NGC and PCGS that I bought from auctions. I don't mind the American graders, but my brain can not wrap around the MS-70 US bald eagle coin that I recently bought. My brain is saying, MS-65+. 😊

    Ok, call me a complete neophyte, but all I see are *results* that are different between NGC and PCGS for individually different coins, not any comparison to any other objective *basis* or standard or even cross grading of the same coins, which to me doesn't really prove anything except for maybe a difference of opinion. What am I missing?... 🤔

      The coins were taken out of the same roll and sent. The two groups of coins appeared to be the same condition when sent. One batch graded significantly higher than the other.

      @@TtheSilverStacker Thanks, appreciate your explanation. At first I didn't think that being from the same roll was relevant, but then I thought about the rolls that I got in a monster box - they should all be pretty much the same. 👍

    To really see if this theory is accurate you should crack the 5 NGC coins out send to pcgs see what it comes back also maybe send 2 pcgs coins into NGC to cross over see if they will cross over then you will know else wise this could very well be just the better coins went to pcgs vs NGC

  • @HIstacking
    @HIstacking 9 місяців тому +1

    You should try and crack 1 out of each and try to cross grade to see what happens

    I like ICG, NGC, PCGS, ANACS. I HAVE YET TO GO CAC.
    Yes I am well aware that ICG is the underdog. After all, i am an Independent Party member. I am quite used of it. Plus, I don't mind paying cheap prices for authentication. As grading is subjective.... Till AI grading takes over ... then??? Who knows?

    in order to know for sure, you need to crack out the same five coins to be graded by each grading company ' not different coins

    NGC grades Mexican coins stricter than PCGS. However, I have seen coins not worthy of 70s getting 70s simply b/c its submitted by dealers with dealer exclusive labels. Also PCGS has been grading Libertad 70s in those Ultrabreak labels. Overall bad optics when they play those games. These games are not new. Research your history. There was a big third grading company in the 80s that was playing games with the likes of some well known auction houses.

    Some people at NGC don't know how to grade... they should just quit... I've seen some outrageous grades by NGC... they beyond ungrade MS coins. Been seeing a pattern with them.

    Ngc has done sloppy work and overlooked mint errors on 3 of six coins, I sent to them
    To grade!! Terrible, shame on them!🤔

    Too small of a sample size to try & explain the differences in grades. Could be just a coincidence that “better” coins were sent to PCGS. I do like the NGC holders more. But that’s subjective lol
