- In this episode Kaz and I tell you about our most recent trip to Disneyland and how I got denied for the Disability Access Service. We also talk about our theories as to why we think I was denied, other people's stories that we've heard regarding DAS, and a very cute story about an interaction we had with a family!

The story about little Evan was amazing. I relate very deeply with how you talked to him. I’m also on the autism spectrum and have a lot of sensory issues (Along with quite a few physical disabilities). I cannot express how much good you did talking and sharing the story. I have Cerebral Palsy. I'm either not disabled enough or too disabled for things, it's very frustrating!
Same, I also have CP I have been to Disney many years ago before the rules changed. Knowing the new rules, I wouldn’t even try going to Disney because I would get denied on the spot.

Over the summer, I volunteered at a summer program for 3 to 7 year olds with speech and occupational therapy needs, and I loved it. Hearing about Evan reminds me of them. So many of them were such sweet people, and I feel like they could be so easily misunderstood when they're just doing their best. A couple of kids asked for me when I wasn't there, and that was heartwarming. :) I felt like I must have been doing *something* right, at least. I'm a college student and the experience is making me reconsider my career plan XD

25:36 Also, I think you meant to say approve. Meaning, the people that are going to impact another guests experience get approved for Dass. VERY Wrong of them to pick and choose like that! Everyone who have a disability would benefit from it, and some simply need it just to enjoy their experience. This should be illegal, in the sense of discrimination
The other card was GAC Guest Assistance Card. We got this card in 2010 for my son when he is 8. My son is now 23 years old he is autistic. We recently went to WDW in November 2023 and we got the DAS pass.
This is so ridiculous. It is infuriating and makes not want to even try Disney with my son.
Disney stopped giving most of not all wheelchair users das pass because there typically lines are wheelchair accessible and a wheelchair alone does not prevent someone from being in a typical line

Sounds like their new rules r possibly breaking the discrimination laws, and they should be held accountable for that.
I was lucky. I also have cerebral palsy and that’s not even what qualify me. What qualify me was my ADHD and I didn’t know that at the time, but it is stupid that that’s what qualify me not the physical disability but the adhd and I think it’s because so many people fake it Because it’s on camera. So you can say I have a bit of a limp right when you talk to them so I think they changed it because of that and it really sucks for everyone unless you have a developmental disability.
While I was there, also I hurt my foot so I was mainly using it because I had a injury and I had cerebral palsy so I find it so stupid that they changed it because people need more with physical disabilities. It’s just some people ruined it for people with physical disabilities And also to when I was talking on the phone with the person, they won’t mean, but they were very judge because they couldn’t see my disability. They were being not rude, but you know it felt very rude like yeah you need this sure, you disabled making a very Condescending way
Whoa... ADHD got you accepted? I have that and its to the point everyone can see it when my medicine wears off. Also i have a brain injury and seizures and none of these 3 things have gotten me disability.

@@Kthomps3 Yes, and before that she explained how dangerous it can be for her. Did you really have to take words out of context to try to prove your point? Yes, yes you did. I have heard Hank Green say the same exact thing about his chemotherapy. It's called an understatement. I can't believe I have to explain that to you.

Actually, the question you should be asking is why people who do NOT need access accommodations try to take advantage of them? This is what puts companies on the defensive and why you have to "prove" your disability. I don't blame the big companies (for this, anyway...they have lots to answer for anyway); I blame the abusers of systems which are put in place. Not just for Disney...not just for the disabled...everywhere. Civic responsibility should be common sense...but it's uncommon instead.

Disney does have other forms of accommodations for vision and hearing issues and mobility issues
Disney chose not to require that, and you cannot punish disabled people for that. She was not looking for mobility help. Stop blaming disabled people for Disney's decisions.

Going to the parks for free and irritated because you can’t book your Lightening Lanes on your phone for free as well. Epic.
What does that have to do with needed accommodations? It is NOT "free lightening lanes" as this accommodation long predates that.
@@wellhellothere6347 actually, no, this doesn't predate booking lightening lanes on your phone. Before Genie+/lightening lanes were introduced to the park, DAS users would acquire DAS return times by physically arriving at the attraction and requesting a time (which is basically Return to Queue, the accommodation Disney is offering to those who don't qualify for DAS but feel like they can't wait in certain attraction queues...both people in this video rejected this as an accommodation because they couldn't book it on their phone). Bottom line is that Disney is providing the accommodations...they're just not the preferred accommodations for these two.
You totally missed the point. Yes she got tickets for free her boyfriend sister works for the park. The point is Disney has totally dropped the ball and now they said fuck you to all the people with disabilities unless you have autism or down syndrome so anyone with a disability has a big old. fuck you sign saying that they no longer matter that they’re disability no longer matters, even though it is very difficult for them. Disney used to be the theme park to go to if you had a disability because they were the most accommodating to those with disabilities. Now it’s a big fuck you. We don’t care that you have a disability because a few people decided to abuse the system, so even if you’re in a wheelchair, even if you are missing both your legs and you can’t stand in line or you have half a leg they don’t fucking care and if you overheat, they don’t fucking care. If you have vomiting problems they don’t fucking care about you anymore. That is what she is talking about. It is hard to understand because they talk a little slow. Yes but Disney said fuck you. Fuck you. Fuck you to anyone that has a disability
