Awesome! I wasn't expecting Megadeth and Dave to show up on this channel. *One day when I was 17 in 1995 at a friend's house, we were listening to Countdown once again and the solo was my turning point.*
I demanded the guitar from my sister's BF at the time she had ganked, and started teaching myself to play. About 18 months later I was learning one of Dave's solos after being able to crank out Pantera and Van Halen, got to a sweeping arpeggio, and oh boy!
*Not on the gear I had, but I could still shred at an epic level.*

1:13 Why is he measuring the distance to the snare for the ducking? I don't understand

Maybe he measures the distance between the mic and snare to the same distance every time? Then maybe adjusted the ducking depending on how hard the snare hits because it varies? I’m just guessing, I had to think about that too.

No. He measures the distance from the snare to the vocal mic so that the vocal mic ‘ducks’ in volume once the snare travels across the stage into the mic. It will be a really fast ducking so that it doesn’t really interfere with the vocal sound but gives Dave more isolation from the snare.

Yes he sets the PSE threshold so that even Dave’s quietest vocals come through, but then because the snare sometimes opens the gate he sets ducker source to snare and arrival time delay based on distance. Same thing I do with Alice Cooper ;) I don’t use a laser tho, I just have the drummer hit his snare and I record it. Then I can zoom in and see the time between close snare mic and lead vocal. In my case I do it on BGVs because Alice is mobile with wireless. I generally ask the FOH to crank up his PA while I do the recording that way if I ever want to remix the show after I have a loud snare hit going through all open mics including how the ambient crowd mics pick it up via the FOH pa. The recording is a nice reference to have if you like to align your ambient mics and overheads to your snare in post / studio.

Awesome Megadeth's live Sound Solutions, i have Waves box Diamond, runs those plugins with proton duo soundgrid server on my intel core I7 PC, in the past i installed and i see very small windows, i think what ever you buy dsp power is necessary toget the best results, i'm correct please, kind regards to the engineers. Rudi.
