- It is so important to give our pets healthy, nutritious live foods. Their growth and well-being is assured by the type of feeder insects we offer them. From geckos to tarantulas to dart frogs to mantis, a protein filled feeder insect is well accepted by our pets.
We all know about dubia roaches (Blaptica dubia)- often considered the Best feeder insect as they are easy to breeder and very inexpensive to raise. There are many great feeder insects other than dubia roaches though. For small animals, the best might be an insect few people have even heard about!
Join me as I introduce the feeder insect that will quickly be our #1 source of live foods we feed our small geckos. You may be surprised!
Introducing our culture of Paratemnopteryx couloniana (or commonly called Red Goblins).

Oh wow that gecko by the penny is TINY!
:) and not even close to the smallest I've kept
Another Amazing Video Wally 10,000 was reached!!!
Reeeeeeed Goblins
Yum
Thank you Frank. Feels good to hit 10,000 so quickly.
So much info on such a solid topic! Thanks for the info, brother!!!
Thanks Josh. Mixing in a bit of education with some 'fun' videos coming up shortly. So much time so little to do..... strike that, reverse it.
Great video. Thank you for sharing :)
Thank you Oscar.
I like the background music and the going from one room to another!
I need to do more of this type of video (down in the facility)
I love how crammed packed full of information your videos are. The step-by-step instructions, you cover everything. And the music is on point during the whole thing. Doing great Wallly!
I am going to start posting comments like this to social media as they mean SO MUCH to me. This is exactly what I try to do. A bit light entertainment with crammed in tips and helpful care info. Thank you so much Faith. And, do you mind if I post this elsewhere?
@@SupremeGecko I like when you pop up in a different room in your house. It makes it feel more personable and makes you relatable. Your you-tube game is strong 💪 lol
@@faithnicole7921 Thank you so much Faith. I plan to get out of the office more in '22.
Great video as always
Thank you as always TC
Wish I could get some of these, but roaches are a no-go for my family 😂
I'm sure my frogs would love these.
Also love how the geckos just walk through the water bowl.
Water dish? What water dish ;)
Just tell your family they are Goblin Isopods
@@zennozangetsu1164 Woah... You're a genius! 😂
I'll keep them with my calico scabers and they won't know the difference.
@@mpk6664 Hypeeeeeee!!! :)
Coffee.. yes that is definitely on the priority
And.... HIGH on the priority list.
Great video Wally. Never thought of having isopods with feeders to serve as cleanup. Hopfully they dont start to compete. I might try that out with my red runner colony once it gets a bit wamer and their population booms again.
You are most welcome. If I get too many dairy cows in the container, I'll simply harvest a couple handfuls and move them to my DC container.
Just found your channel and subscribed. Great video and definitely want to give those feeders a try. I breed Savannah monitors to croc skinks and always looking for different feeders.
Thank you!!! And, I'm the same way- always looking for different things to feed. Thanks again.
Great video! I'm glad to see your red goblin colony is doing well. I might look into starting a colony in the future. I plan to keep a few smaller lizard species in the future so I think they'll come in handy.
These are perfect for all types of small animals.
Great video. Seems like a nice alternative to dubias
Thank you.
Congrats Wally! 10k 🥳
Thank you so much.
great video and becky saw me watching this video and all she said was bugs ewwww....lol
I thought the same thing as I was reaching into this bin with long sleeves. Did you hear me call them Red Robins. Jeez!
@@SupremeGecko lol red Robbins yumm. Lmao 🤣
My gargoyle geckos love their red runners! They are the perfect size for small geckos to digest. Even our bearded dragon will chase after the adult males!
Small roaches are PERFECT!!! Thanks for watching.
10k Congratulations 🎉
Thank you!
Great video, glad to know it’s not just my coffee cup that’s always empty lol.
Annnnnnnnd it's empty again.... be right back.
nice
Thank you
I've never heard of red goblins and keeping dairy cows with them is genius. I'm kind of new to the world of feeder insects and have been kind of creeped out by large dubias lol. 😅. Huh...good to know 👍
Well, thank you so much for the nice comments. and, I completely understand how some 'bugs' can be a bit cringey :)
Nice video Wally . My red goblins never took off but my little Kenyans are doing great. I think I need a different setup. Can't wait to start hatching some geckos so I can feed them off.
Spring is coming quickly. I bet you have some nice projects coming up.
@@SupremeGecko Vipers, Steno sthenos and C. variegatus. Didn't cool anything though so I'm not sure how it will go. Cant wait to see you at the next show. Always a pleasure talking with you.
@@steveschindler2802 Always MY pleasure
I need to find some of these.
Thanks. They are cool.
The dairy cows definitely surprised me!
:) Me too. I knew they were in there but did not expect so many.
How would you change a springtails substrate? I'm using coconut coir and I wanna change them into the lump charcoal. Thanks and love your videos!
I would not use charcoal but that is up to you. Also, you would not be 'changing' but rather just starting a new culture. Take some of the springtails and use to start the new one.
BWAHAHA! The Dairy Cow conundrum!
I am sure there are some dwarf whites that transported in there too!!!!
Wally your hair is getting long!
I know. With everything going on the last 3 months, we just never had a chance to get out.
Didn’t you get these red goblins relatively recently?
I did. They did nothing for a month or so then exploded.
I'd love to get some red goblins
Just let me know (FB message me).
Are these also called red runners? They look like the ones at my pet store, just a different name I guess! What a perfect option for itty bitty insectivores
Red Runners are Blatta lateralis. Red Goblins are Paratemnopteryx couloniana.
red goblins are Paratemnopteryx couloniana, red runners are Shelfordella lateralis.
@@SupremeGecko thank you!
@@Evan345gdf that's so cool thank you!
@@CheddaBitz You are most welcome
I didn’t know dusting the roaches calmed them down and made it so they couldn’t crawl as well!
YES!!! What a great point!
Hi, In a lot of your isopod videos you said that it was best for them to have some soft/decaying wood, in my enclosure the substrate contains sawdust. Will that also work or should I add some wood?
It's ALWAYS best to have decaying wood. Unfortunately, sawdust takes a LOOOOONG time to start decaying, and they will not eat it.
@@SupremeGecko ok, do you know where I can buy decaying wood?
@@wms5810 Check Permian Exotics or US Invertebrates.... or collect some outdoors.
@@SupremeGecko what is if put in repti bark? Is that good enough?
@@wms5810 Again, it should be "soft/decaying wood".
How many tubs of Dubais do you have?
Hold on, taking off my socks........Breeders 8 or 10. Feeders 2. Grow out for shows I think 3 or 4.
Is it OK to feed a adult crested geckos large locusts ? ... I'm new to your channel and new to crested geckos and love both
I've never done that so I cannot comment. I would be leery if the legs are sharp enough to damage the cresties skin.
@Supreme Gecko thank you for your reply. What feeder insects do you recommend? I'm from the UK
I'm really sorry to "bug" you, but I was wondering if you could answer 1 more question ? ... Q. Can I keep an 8 year old crestie in an exo terra 45x45x60 next to a 10 month old crestie in the same size tank, there's at least 10 inches between both tanks, but there's no screen
@@twistedrockafella I'm not sure what is available from UK. Sorry I know a lot of people do use grasshoppers but I'd be concerned about feeding them to crested geckos.
@@twistedrockafella If my conversion is correct, it seems this would be fine.
are they the same as red runners?
No, 2 different species.
@@SupremeGecko what is the best one? i will feed them to crested geckos, bearded dragons and skinks.
@@Tokiez Probably red runners for you
Can crested geckos eat German cockroaches aswell?
Dubias primarily
@@SupremeGecko thank you for your response ,appreciated , I'm a new crested gecko owner and I've got some future plans on adding to my collection, so researching is crucial , and your channel helps me alot ,very informative ,greetings from South Africa .
@@craigsampson5325 Thank you for the wonderful response. Good luck and I will tell you, even after 20 years, I am still researching and learning new things.
YES IM LAST!!!
You Rock!
Not first
Same!!!
Still so close.
soooo very close
@@frankdughtank8327 somebody beat us both this time lol
Wood you day there better then red runners
I think they ARE better than red runners because they do not climb as much... and are a bit smaller.
Ok thank you
@@jaykennedy2256 My Pleasure. Are you working with RRs now?
No was looking in to getting rr but saw this video and didn't know what they was the same till I look it up
