Love this! Used to work in a sawmill, but our long length lumber was a maximum of 20' with 16' being the finished product. Our head rig was similar except we had a slabber (a chipper with angled knives so the sawyer could cut a flat spot on the log and make a board on the very first pass), and a double sided band saw so a cut could be made both directions across the saw. I think 60' might be much for a double bit bandmill though. Anyway, great video! Hope to see more!
Wow that long logs! We have a sawmill in South of Sweden but would like to come in contact with a mill that could cut Douglas in high quality long length. Do you have any contact? Br fredrik
The mill I worked in was 20 foot as well. Our main saw carriage was a circular saw. It had a stopper for the edger and the edger could handle 8 inch but for the sake of the blades we kept it at 6 inch. The actual main saw could and did do 12x12 and 12x16, 18 and 20 feet for specialty orders going to a log home company. We mostly did Spruce and they didn't order that stuff very often. Good thing because we didn't get the logs to make them very often. When we saw the doors open that bypassed the debarker (they weren't going through it) we knew we had an easy day because that stuff took forever to mill and was too big to man handle.
That is bad-ass sawing. The tail sawyer is one brave guy. I know, been there, done that. Loved every minute of it. Where is this mill? I was thinking Hull-Oakes in Oregon but changed my mind.
Longest timber in the sawmill of my son is 5m. Complete trees are comming but cut in different length. 3 m and 50 cm longer. In different boxes from diameter. up to 90cm in diameter. 👍👍🇩🇪
Jeez..thats a BIG TREE..,!......
And that 60' beam is awesome..,,
My house was built specifically using # 1 select Douglas Fir. Built in 1946. St.Paul,Minnesota.
Cool story
Massive old tree.
Beautiful clear slabs.
Awesome stuff.

This is awesome😃Really heavy log and great machinery👍
Awesome. Makes me want to build a timber frame palace.
If I didn't see it, I wouldn't believe it.
Great video.
That's a big log . Cool
Doug fir is such an awesome tree 👍🇺🇸🙏🙏
“That’s some big wood ya got there.” said my wife many years ago and me this evening. 😆
The guy on the pike pole has to have a lot of upper body /upper arm strength to hold the slabs of lumber in place, and to guide them off of the log.
Now that was a tree! Nice.
It's been awhile, but this looks like Hull Oakes but I thought they had a double cut headrig.
Great video hearkening back to the "old days."
Impressive mill and operation.

I think you are correct about it being Hull Oaks
That is one big tooth pick! How many board feet did it turn out to be?

Nice looking stem !!
O my goodness nice ty 👍👏🏆🏆👴🐕🚜🤠😎😊
hi there great work , john
Spectacular! Now please show me how it got there in one piece!
That is quite a head saw.
Mesin pabrikk yang luar biasa baguss🎉🎉🎉
This will come off better if it's muted or the sound is way down.
Muted is better than rock music though.
Good lord, how long is that carriage? Seen 40's cut but never a 60. Pretty cool
Need more headrig sawing, enjoyed it!
I will as soon as the logs come in.
Beautiful old growth lumber
If Indonesia had a machine like this, there would definitely be a lot of unemployment
I like this.
nice new carriage!
10:50 Money shot, baby!
Just how big a house could you frame out with that one log? 2,000 sq ft? 3,000 sq ft?
Board feet in this log: 7300 +/-. Board feet to frame a 2000 sq/ft home: 16,000.
Amazing
That was HUGE
i need a couple of these long boards but they won't fit in my pick up, what do i do?lol
hoping you might be able to tell me where i can purchase some PRIME 8 or 10/4 v/g fir ? I'm on the west coast of calif.
why such along log when you cut every thing in haif as it came off the breacking down saw.
The old wooden ships the Masts were made out of Douglas fur
What's the point of milling a 60' log if you're just going end up cutting each board in half?
The order is for long timbers. All side cuts go into dimension lumber.
Pretty magnificent Log !
Where the heck did that come from ? Vancouver Island ?
Hull Oakes lumber company,Dawson Oregon
These workers are amateurs. They don’t know what they’re doing.
And why is that?
Sure was a big tree
Dropping a log as i watch
Aonde fica ..esse lugar ..?
It’s almost comical to think you’re going to have much influence on a 500 pound slab with a 20 foot pole
Enough
What's the point of 60 foot slabs? Badass headrig.
Thanks for sharing! Which sawmill is this? 🙏🌱
high dollar lumber!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's a big log . Cool
