  • Say “damn” in mixed company and few will blink. Say “doctrine” and most will stare. According to contemporary culture, doctrine is something archaic, oppressive, and unhealthy for our souls. But Pastor Mike pushes us today to think about doctrine more critically as we ask ourselves, "What do I believe, and why do I believe it?" while we examine whether our doctrine comes from a trustworthy source.

Pastor Mike forgot one important part when speaking of indoctrination - that it is the process of teaching others to accept a position UNCRITICALLY. Don't question or analyze things; just accept it because it is in the bible. Also, found it interesting that he chose to bring in talking points about abortion (life starting at conception) and women's rights to choose when assessing the source on which your doctrine is based. IF life began at conception, then god's a murder and condones abortion in Numbers 5 (and murders an innocent child in 2 Samuel 12; the child became ill for days and then died; why didn't god just take the baby immediately without allowing the child to suffer). I know that the church would say that god's ways are not our ways and who are we to question or understand god...but it is really hard to look at this and not come to the conclusion that god is not at all loving and is cruel. That's what doctrine taught me.

You don’t know the Bible in context. Sadly, you don’t know God. I hope you find a good Bible teacher and open your heart to Truth.
