In order to do 4K 240 fps, it will most likely be a burst mode like two to four seconds which is fine for me. It would also need a new generation stacked sensor to drive 4K 240 fps and possibly 1080P 960 fps also in short video burst.

I just came back from my local camera store and pulled the trigger. I am not into video much. I am mostly into stills. So the Sony A7RV should keep me happy for a while.

Sony: "If you want a capable low light camera, please buy the A7SIII. If you want to add CineEI, please buy an additional camera, the FX3. If you also want focus breathing compensation, please buy another body, the A7RV. Just keep buying new camera bodies for every incremental software update so we make the most money possible. We love our customers!". In all seriousness, the recent disaster of the FX3 and FX30 firmware which bricked some people's cameras and lead to a statement from Sony to not upgrade the firmware shows how few resources they dedicate to firmware development. I think the best thing to do is wait until they release a camera close to perfect to your needs. I will sell my A7SIII and wait for an FX3a that may have shutter angle but is virtually identical to the current FX3. That way I am not stuck with multiple bodies that end up collecting dust. This lack of product support shouldn't be allowed IMO.
No 4K/120 should kill the A7R V in your heart right there. Other stuff for photo (especially no 30 FPS) kills it for stills. The LCD screen is great. I'll give Sony that.
I love that you upload early enough for me to catch you in the morning, It was nice to see a new video when I came home tonight as well! I think Sony is going to get a lot of potential Canon migratory interested in the A7RV simply because you can use existing Canon glass plus Sony did not pull the scumbag move that Canon did by blocking third party lenses. I'm hoping this might prompt some A7RIV shooters to upgrade and start selling their A7RIVs cheap enough for some of us Hobo Photographers to get in on some of that High Res gold.

To be honest I can't even keep up with the Sony releases like every week. Too busy out shooting. Once photos get uploaded to the size of a postage stamp on instagram, none of the 12K, 100MP, etc. matter.
This is the best time ever for an X4000. IRL streaming looks to be the next big trend for young people and the current IRL stream kit relies heavily on the X3000. Sony need to get back into the market, teeny tik tok twitchers everywhere will be buying them for Christmas.

I think that 8 stops Ibis will be absolutely fantastic on a7Siii with insane readout speeds. It looks bad on a7R5 because of extremely slow readout speed.
Watched some of the preview for the Sony A7RV and felt the same way I always do....Nice to look at nice to hold, but if you can be content with what you have then it is one less sold. I will be interested to see what you think of the OM System OM-5. The ibis looks good and focus looks improved. I like to see the underdogs get some attention.

A recurring theme is your quest for the slowest of motion in the highest resolution with the most stable image. Well, extrapolated to the extreme, the logical endpoint of all three of those three attributes is a sharp high-resolution still...
It's getting RIDICULOUS! $5300 CDN + $689 sale tax... You got to be kidding? The segment of the market that needs something like this is Soooo tiny. For doing UA-cam Vlogs? Nope. For doing wildlife? Perhaps but is the speed there? I guess if you're making a serious income from using the tool it makes sense. Most viewers will never need a camera like this when you've got to sink $9-10K into a body and a couple of lenses if you're lucky enough to get off that easy. I do have the money to buy this. I've been saving and practising delayed gratification for 2 years now. But, during that time I have adopted more of a "Get the most out of what you have" attitude. I would like a FF camera for the resolution in lower light and portrait/landscape photography but the multitudinous variety of features jammed into this kind of body are probably more than any pro even uses. I feel it's time for the "hybrid" race to end and give us tools dedicated to function without so much extraneous stuff we may need to get a Phd in Tech Tool Usage to use, and may never use anyway. I guess I'm ranting for Simplicity...is that so much to ask for?
I picked up an A7ii a few months back and it's been more than enough as a beginner. I didn't expect for it to have super recent firmware updates, but there's like one or two 'issues' that never got resolved and it is a bit frustrating. The most frustrating recently was finding out the other a7ii bodies let you bind a button to toggle between the viewfinder and lcd, but it's just missing on the a7ii 😔.

Did you get your hands on an a4 yet? I just upgraded from an a6000 to it and of course it's an actual dream in every way, but would like to see what you think about the color science on it compared to the a7s etc. I haven't used it in a greenish environment yet (trees etc) and that absolutely destroyed my a6000 . Also I use the stabilization software and it's true it takes a day to render!! Then I rendered the same project again in Davinchi and was shocked that only took 30 mins lol. Also my trial will end soon so I'll have to pay $150 a year to render 4k10?! I wonder if 4k10 is even worth it for UA-cam lol. Anyway cheers

The main thing I've seen is not skimping on the adapter. There's a mega compatibility article out there, I can't find at the moment, that compares a few adapters.
I'm that old if I look at images on the screens I can't tell if they are in focus or not. I need my glasses to see the screen at all let alone the image on it lol
I sold my Sony APSC cameras with footage as stable as a wino during Prohibition. One day I might get a Sony full frame, but for now I’m sticking with Lumix G9 I need a little stability in my life.
You really are killing me here! I do envy the sheer pace of technological development in Sony-Land and the fact that their cameras are so usable. They are the masters here. But at the same time I find it strange that there are just so many models, and so little is carried over to older ones. And in some ways I feel lucky to not be at their mercy. I see them having the same strategy in game consoles and I can tell you, it works. I remember upgrading through three PS3s and only the last one (the slim) was quiet enough to actually enjoy watching movies with.
I haven't purchased a camera new since the Canon 5dii... Done riding the snake...I thought. I'm completely happy with my a7Riii honestly. Sold my Riv and got an Rv like an idiot. I'm idiot photographer though. Idiot! Ughhhh!
The Sony A7Siv will have all the features you desire, but do not have in the Sony A7Siii. Your upgrade path will be to buy the A7Siv at full retail price, then sell your A7Siii to be someone else's B cam. The arrival of the A7Siv will depreciate the price of the A7Siii and its resale value, but you will obtain the newest firmware via this upgrade.
You need to get the original Pentax Q in for a review, me and my hobotographer panny boi friends would love one. It's got ibis, maybe garbo spec ibis but still better than my X-T4 😭
If you are just interested in 4K video, I would go with the a7S III. With 12.9 MP, it is 4K without all that downraezng that would be required with the a7R V and its 61MP sensor. A frame of 4K uses 8MP. The a7R V has 61MP. You don't need that for any video. The a7R V camera is more a hybrid. It is a photo camera that does video. The a7 S III is a video camera that does photos.

Yeah I quickly watched the Sony release video, it didn't mention 4k120 , which the a74 can already do without sound I believe (so not an issue), has 8k at 24fps (not an issue), and main selling point is new autofocus which may help specialist journalists who take photos at car rallies?? I don't buy the hype where it shows the a74 not focusing, that's bullshit. Unless you photo trains which I don't. Oh and the screen tilts down now or something. A74 is the king of standard and like usual the r is for people who buy the r version. If they said "improved gyroscope" or something new then maybe I'd be listening although I didn't watch a video about how effective the gyroscopic stabilization really is yet (I use it at 80-90%). Everyone knows the r comes out after the a7x and doesn't compete with the a7x . It's the new s version you wanna wait for but where are you even going to put a 4k240fps video with improved ai autotracking?? The a74 is the camera of our generation and I can't think that I'll want to have more in the next 10 or even 20 years. Do you even have a 4k120fps screen? At 30"? I got a 2.6k one at like 17". And guess what my computer won't even play back those videos without a special media player (VLC can't handle it). Sony are way overpriced..when I got the A7R3 amazing fixed all the things the A7R2 needed..now the P40 pro+ P50 pro..S12 ultra...have fixed the A7R5 A75.all with better cameras better screen 4k120 1080 240..but no RX100 ??5.3k screen 5.5k finder 4k 120 2k 240 (&120)?? If Nikon make a camera phone mft sensor a Nikon cine app that can be used....& Nikon NK100 MK1...
Kasey I just hope you give that A99 ii a try. Only to show case it's great rear LCD and also great ergonomics! People would be amazed to see how good sony was in ergo back in the time! You can find some pretty cheap options even with some good lenses if you look for on eBay.
The A7R5 is a SKIP model. Just get a used A7R4 for $2200 IF you dont have a camera.I would wait til Sony ergo matures. Just a pain to use. Canon is a better made and better in hand camera. EXACTLY, Sony could have made MANY updates to the R4, yet nothing for over a year. TheR4 and coming R5 are missing a 28-35mpixel and a 40-45mpixel Raw option, uncompressed.

What is your opinion on using EF glass on the R5 with the lens adapter? Would it be just as clear or have any downfalls?
Works just fine
They work fine. The RF lenses are actually sharper and focus faster. But unless you're ultra demanding, adapted EF glass will be very acceptable.

If you are just interested in 4K video, I would go with the a7S III. With 12.9 MP, it is 4K without all that downraezng that would be required with the a7R V and its 61MP sensor. A frame of 4K uses 8MP. The a7R V has 61MP. You don't need that for any video. The a7R V camera is more a hybrid. It is a photo camera that does video. The a7 S III is a video camera that does photos.
The screen res is actually a slight downgrade from a7r4a.
a7S line is dead while a7R line will keep chasing megapixels.. 😅😝

They are supposedly a bit more saturated.
Different from camera to camera in a7rv range.
Colors can be changed with a click on Lightroom or Photoshop

Yeah I quickly watched the Sony release video, it didn't mention 4k120 , which the a74 can already do without sound I believe (so not an issue), has 8k at 24fps (not an issue), and main selling point is new autofocus which may help specialist journalists who take photos at car rallies?? I don't buy the hype where it shows the a74 not focusing, that's bullshit. Unless you photo trains which I don't. Oh and the screen tilts down now or something. A74 is the king of standard and like usual the r is for people who buy the r version. If they said "improved gyroscope" or something new then maybe I'd be listening although I didn't watch a video about how effective the gyroscopic stabilization really is yet (I use it at 80-90%). Everyone knows the r comes out after the a7x and doesn't compete with the a7x . It's the new s version you wanna wait for but where are you even going to put a 4k240fps video with improved ai autotracking?? The a74 is the camera of our generation and I can't think that I'll want to have more in the next 10 or even 20 years. Do you even have a 4k120fps screen? At 30"? I got a 2.6k one at like 17". And guess what my computer won't even play back those videos without a special media player (VLC can't handle it). By the way my last camera was the a6000 so I can tell you right now that the dream is real and the dream is the a74

Sony are way overpriced..when I got the A7R3 amazing fixed all the things the A7R2 needed..now the P40 pro+ P50 pro..S12 ultra...have fixed the A7R5 A75.all with better cameras better screen 4k120 1080 240..but no RX100 ??5.3k screen 5.5k finder 4k 120 2k 240 (&120)?? If Nikon make a camera phone mft sensor a Nikon cine app that can be used....& Nikon NK100 MK1...

Kasey I just hope you give that A99 ii a try. Only to show case it's great rear LCD and also great ergonomics! People would be amazed to see how good sony was in ergo back in the time! You can find some pretty cheap options even with some good lenses if you look for on eBay.
The A7R5 is a SKIP model. Just get a used A7R4 for $2200 IF you dont have a camera.I would wait til Sony ergo matures. Just a pain to use. Canon is a better made and better in hand camera. EXACTLY, Sony could have made MANY updates to the R4, yet nothing for over a year. TheR4 and coming R5 are missing a 28-35mpixel and a 40-45mpixel Raw option, uncompressed.
