His pinky is so long! Lucky! :)
I noticed that too. Looked at my pinky compared to his and dang, my pinky small.😂😂
Damn, he should play violin or something!
Jacqueline T no, what really matters about the pinky is that it has independent fds function, the ability to move the pink independently from the other fingers. Some people lack this tendon to the pinky, and are this genetically predisposed to fail at the violin, sadly, and no amount of practice will make them as good as those who do have independent fds function in the pinky. Of course, Ray, as well as *ALL* of the other top soloists, as well as pretty much *ALL* orchestral violinists have it. :(
When you practice daily for hours on end, your left-hand fingers stretch, so all professional violinists have longer pinkies on their left hand than on their right hand
@@irisce2799 I used to have very dependent pinky, but after finger independence practice, its practically independent
this deserves more than 360p.
David Whiskey It’s almost as if the video was recorded in 2009
@@mrswag535 lmao
@@mrswag535 but at least 480p man
You guys have a 360p option? I only see 240p...
@@Ickguenthrasil I only see 12p. Damn.
Even through the bad video quality, you can hear the beautiful sweetness of his tone and the absolution of his musical ideas. Mr. Chen is a huge inspiration to me.
Ray Chen is a very talented violinist. I think he will be one of the best among his generation.
you ahve been right
I'm going to see Ray Chen with my class in 8 days !!!!! I still don't believe that he is coming in my town ... OMG I can't wait any longer !
How was it?
To all the people complaining about bad sound quality...plz keep in mind that this vid was uploaded 11 years ago so they did the best they could
like 14-15 years now
His facial expressions are priceless.
I wonder if you still know your account password lol
6:16 revenge on 3:50
You could hear, he took his time the second time
Ray Chen mentioned about 3:50 in one of his videos so that people won’t make the mistake like him (something about harmonics I think )
Pianist also messed up at 6:22
Oh.... God's gift ....those long left arm fingers.....a blessing for a good Violinist....
Actually, the fingers stretch over long periods of time if you practice a lot
@@dehanbadenhorst1398 not by much, my stubs will forever make my cello playing that much more difficult. I just work with what the good lord gave me.
i think i may have a new favorite violinist. he is so flawless and effortless yet so emotional and passionate.
11 years later and he's still one of my favorites
Simply gorgeous.
i bet the ones who disliked this lost against him
Ruby Summer No its because the audio sucks ass
Astonishing, how much extra detail he's wrangled out of this piece.
I saw him last weekend and he is just great as a person, very humble and as a violinist is great and will one of the greatest of this century. He is fluent on his fingers and the stradivarius 1721 MacMillan get better on him and his soul on his performance.A privilege for me to be close to him in Puerto Rico.
Brilliant. Perfection.
I know his tone is mainly from incredible technique, hours of practice, etc. But he has an awesome instrument! I love that sound!
Haha well duh, it's a strad! I should read the description!
Desde el comienzo....mostraste tu gran talento..eres un violinista excepcional, tecnica...gran talento, pasión, magia, expresión facial....que más se puede pedir? Me encanta, escucharte ....
I was listening to the great Heifetz when I saw this video has 60K hits and nobody has heard of Ray Chen. What sensitive and profound playing, and most surprisingly it was coming from a 20 yr old. The piano accompaniment is superb, nice rythmic, and good balancin. It's actually incredibly exciting and delightful to hear the two play. And lastly, I like this version better than Heifetz.
agree/
So who’s this wonderful pianist?
Just heard my really good friend play that at contests today, and he received a Superior I Rating!! We saw Ray Chen perform for us at Liberty North High School last year, it was just as good then. BIG inspiration to us high school students... Bravo!!
Thank you so much Ray I really really enjoyed watching and listening to you playing with such great passion and enthusiasm too, you are always a delight to watch and I am very grateful that I can see you on UA-cam when I want. Although I’d love ❤❤❤❤ to see you in person too but that’s not likely. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags ❤❤❤❤❤
Im 8 years and I play this piece to and I Am learning this piece from you Ray Chen And i watch your vibrato video's
If that's true then the most of the rest of humanity might as well jump into mass grave, we've no hope.
Soooo u're 10 y.o now?
VERY musical, playful, senstive, and skilled!
The Phrases were so beautifully interpreted...
Excellent! Both Ray and the gentleman on the piano were fantastic!
What a pleasure! I love this interpretation with its playful, shameless use of rubato and dazzling articulation.
I can barely make it through the first episode of the Rondo, and even then, not compellingly. This is not an easy piece. Nice work!
Raman Shah YOU CAN DO IT I BELIEVE IN YOU!
I like how every note is so clean and how the dynamics and intonation are so good. It is obvious that he enjoys playing the violin. I wish that my playing of this piece was as good as this.
One of the best competitions in the wold, my opinion, good player too
he has such a lightness in his tone !
hello from 2019
In from 2020 😁
This is wonderful. His playing here is very different from the usual approach to this piece...instead of zipping through it as fast as possible, he takes a relaxed tempo and, in a sort of running commentary, brings out the little highlights and asides that are usually lost in what is really a complex and lovely composition. Here is a real musician's musician--and what a joy to listen to!
the best of the best saint seans introduction I've heard.. hope they can upload a HD vid
Try that one ua-cam.com/video/N22c3_8gL4Q/v-deo.html
Toffifee Wolf but we want ray chen
Thank you so much I really really enjoyed watching you play with such passion and sensitivity Ray, it was absolutely and utterly incredible and amazing too. Please stay safe and well too xxx Mags
@goodyones
Same here, It was a privilege for me to sit in the 1st row, right in front of him as he played along with Julien Quentin this August, 2011. Ray is a remarkable violinist and I hope to see him many more times in a live concert
Magnifico !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..............
he won the queen elisabeth contest, 20 000 money and 3 years stradivarius violin to play on, not bad
This is awonderful rendition. And people who feel free to use dirty language for describing this exceptional performance shoud be ashamed of themselves!
I'm really tired of reading theses incompetent comments. Could you keep these offensive remarks to yourself, or have you ever tried to play the violin yourself? Certainly not because then you would feel more humility!!!
Love this piece. Love his interpretation.
Ooof...that sound quality...wish there was a better upload
the pianist is also awesome~~ :)
Absolutely the best violin I've heard the last year...
Try this one ua-cam.com/video/N22c3_8gL4Q/v-deo.html
think i've heard EVERY fiddler play this piece....but honestly, this has to the BEST i've heard so far, & the most enjoyable to watch...go for it!!!
wow his fingers are sooo long..!
Bravo, excelente violinista
Wonderful violinist.
Wahou *_* Just Beautiful .. No Words
Wow....I repeat this everyday!
Rarely beautiful
i don't get how people play so well
because they practise 40 hours a day
Oh yes,, plus u studied at Curtis!! I was n opera major there at only 17,, but my true passion was the violin which I still play!!! Again n again,, Bravo Ray!!!!
He plays so amazingly! It must be a huge honor to be 20 years old and playing an actual Stradavarius.
superb bow control! what a talented musician. Bravo!!!
ray chen i love u!
A very powerful and delightful performance. Wish you all the best.
Ajaib,anak ajaib! Amazing...
Bravo Chen...
This is very good and he deserved to win this competition. Kerry Smith's style is easily shown in this performance.
it was so beatiful that Gods had to listen to your interpretation!! There are no enough words in the world to express such Playing! Yes, Bravo!
a wonderful musician (and a good actor 8D).
great talent!!! wish him all the best!!

So delicate... elegant
This is truly a "bravo" performance.
Inspired.
BRAVO, amazing performance
Very elegant playing.
Fantastic violinist......
The bow is so straight, that it's pixeled. I want such a straight bow as well.. :<
*leaves Internet for practice*
wow, I'm his age and learning this right now...though I can't hope to play it as well as he does T_T
but I have to say my teacher would not approve of his left hand technique lol
I guess it works for him because he has such long and skinny fingers o_o gosh why haven't I ever heard of this guy? he's so eff'n good!
Best Rendition Ever!
Muy bueno, que grandes artistas, con esa magnifica interpretacion, transmiten mucha emocion
BRAVO, amazing performance!
finally i get this piano version.
Wonderful playing, quite inspirational~
Beautiful...
...... Incredible!!!! It's totally amazing... I wanna play like him!.
Love it.
I went to Encore with Ray, he used to be alot bigger. Spent tons of time in the gym. Great guy.
This deserves way more than 240p pls

Oh I didn't know he played this piece of Saint-Saens in the semi finals! It's one of my absolute favorite pieces for violin!
clearly,exactly .bravo
Maravilloso!!!
Maike Perl actually it's *Meraviglioso* in the correct italian form
great performance..

precioso
Bravo!
Bravo Ray.
alright but it's also an honour for this stradivarius to be played by this person... ;)
Awesome!!!!! So impressive!!!
Ray Chen eat encore jeune. Mais prometteur, et l'avenir lui ouvre les bras...Sofia miss
Great performance. Thanks for sharing.
@Marsplasticwoman You're right. I play this right now, but I cannot produce the style necessary of such a true virtuosic violin piece. Such beauty would take endless practice in order to achieve such a level of interpretation.
Perfect!!
Great!!
Wonderful!!!
Very good
Great.
Ray,,, u remind me of the late great Michael Rabin!!! Bravo young man!!!
Good Job Mr. Stephen Chow...!!!
fantastic!
wonderful!!!
