I have wondered the exact same thing, even down to thinking about tigers as a modern-day example. Tigers are so DISTINCT in their coloration that it is impossible to picture them without also thinking about their stripes. How different would our perception of extinct dinosaurs be if we could also know their coloration?
I for one have yet to see evidence Tyrannosaurus wasn't a giant jungle fowl and until such evidence is presented will imagine them as such. No but really i share your exact sentiment. Coloration even amongst domestic animals can be prized and iconic.
We can, in some rare cases. We know one which have the colours of a red panda without the black.

Even tigers are tricky, while one is familiar with the big cat itself, not too many know that there are several subspecies of Tiger; and that those subspecies have subspecies within themselves as well!
The Bengal, Siberian, Caspian, indochinese, South China, & Malayan Tigers are all subspecies of the mainland Asian Tiger.
The Bali, Javan, Bornean & Sumatran Tigers are all subspecies of the Sunda Island Tiger.
Just some examples.
I think a comparison that would make more sense in terms of phylogenetic relatedness is the skeleton of crocodile, and you can see how based on that, you could reconstruct a crocodile's body pretty accurately.

Considering how diverse some modern genus are in terms of species of animals it does makes you think about how drastic some species of dinosaurs from the same genus could have been
If you look at modern reptiles you have a lot of variation in colouration and pattern within a species generally depending on habitat. If we look at modern birds they often change colours completely during the breeding season which is another possibility.

holy fuck I have never thought of this before, whenever I see people reconstruct allosaurus species they usually just slap different head shapes on them and call it a day, this opens up new ways to speculate on how dinosaur species in a genus would differ from one another, however I think we should see the differences of species in bird genus's differ from one another, they might be more conservative with there differences.

Interesting video idea: I have always seen alot of Prehistoric Fantasy have a lot of animals clumped together from different time periods and i wanna know if it’s possible to make an ecosystem comprised of alot of prehistoric fauna from different time periods. (Excluding humans)

Would it be fair to continue calling Saurophaganax, Saurophaganax, even if it ends up being sub subsumed into Allosaurus?
Speaking of Allo, what names would you suggest for the Allosaurus Species, I think Wyomingraptor fits Jimmanseni, and Europensis could just be called either the Lesser Allosaurus, European Allosaurus, or even the Dwarf Allosaurus, since it is smaller in size than the two American species. Now what would you call Fragilis if you had to give it a common name, or would it get to keep its name as just Allosaurus like how panthera has a species just called Panther?
Probably. People still call Megalania Megalania, even tho it’s now known as Varanus Priscus. Saurophaganax could be like a Pop-culture nickname
Technically the way to say commonly the name of a dinosaur that end with "saurus" is for exemple : just calling Allosaurus => Allosaur.
And you go with American/european Allosaur or Allosaur at great crests or Allosaur long-snout or going for funky names like "clawer" etc...

I think panthera is a good example as it is probably the most diverse mammal genus (I personally believe that snow leopards and tigers should both have their own genera).
We should imagine them as animals and more closer patterns to modern dinosaurs or birds probably.
