That theme tune gets me all sentimental and nostalgic. I was 12 years old when this came out...just remembering the thoughts I had at that time and the Hope's I had for the future.
It is hard to believe that this was over 30 years ago. People sitting and talking to one another in the bars, round the pool etc. Nowadays everyone is on the mobile, twitter taking selfies etc.
Mate this song constantly comes into my head and seduces me to return to an age of innocence. Like yourself I would have been 12 in 1989. UA-cam is a time machine that brings you back to easier times. WYWH, Question of sport, only fools and horses etc. Then bed at 9 for school next day.
As soon as the theme tune came on, I could suddenly smell hot fabric! My mother always used to do the ironing when this was on because it was bright and breezy and didn't need any concentration.
It’s so true! Have watched this a few times now, brings back memories of watching this when little. TV themes were great back then and love the extended, the classic 80’s 747 into the sunset
This was an era where mass holidaying abroad had now been around for about 15 years, and people were wanting new ideas outside of the typical Spain and Greece. Going outside of Europe was still relatively expensive and rare but becoming more affordable. With the internet we don't need a TV programme to give us ideas anymore, and people seem to favour a celebrity exploring a specific destination. I miss this sort of show though, it usually aired on Mondays in January so it was always uplifting 🙂
Great to see this thanks. I was searching for Holiday programme with Cliff Michelmore and this came up. I had forgot about Wish You Were Here as well. We used to watch both though. Always great to see different places, even if we were never going to go to them.
Wow i wish i was young AGAIN i remember watching this in 90s

you know you are getting old when you call someone Judith Chalmers due to the number of holiday's they take, and they say - who is she :)
My daughter asked me what getting called away to the phone meant the other day 😮😮😀😀

Why are there no holiday programmes on TV these days? They were excellent.
Agreed, at least it gave us some ideas!
probably because these days all these holiday programs have been uploaded as short clips on to websites like UA-cam.
Because digital switchover happened and ever since the quality of TV programming has gone to shit
There is on BBC NI called Getaways

Judith had the best job in the world, getting paid to go on holidays.
Judith Chalmers such a legend

Much Better times.
True. Before people got impatient 100% of the time.
My ideal holiday, 30 years ago, would have been in a caravan, in Weston-super-Mare, underneath Anneka Rice.
Not a mobile phone in sight..
Brilliant upload, thanks 😊
12th December 1988.
I use to love watching this. cup of tea with the family
I can still smell the vinegary scented pages of the travel brochures
What a blast from the past, when TV was actually interesting. Revamp and bring back I say.
Couldn’t beat those voyeur camera shots as a kid before bed time 🎥 👙
Anna Walker is my favourite one to "enjoy"....😋
Always think holidays are a bit odd myself
Its a shame presenters now aren't as well spoken.
Whos here because they cant go anywhere due to Coronavirus?

I've only got this one, unfortunately. Just uploading 2nd half of the programme
Does anybody know if there is an extended version of the music?

The past 😅
Can't believe they stole Tim the travellers music! Anyone know a good lawyer?
Had a great holiday there but painful piles
Did you end up suffering from extreme, debilitating diarrhoea too?
Those pesky hurricins
People's clothing in these times was appalling. Mustaches, abundant curlers, women's hairstyles with fixative.
There crap now too. When anyone can be bothered to make the effort.
Haha people were much nice dressed back then!!!
