The ridiculously exposed pencil led is how I was taught to draw in art school. You’re not quite holding the pencil correctly to really get the benefit from doing so. It’s really for using while standing at an easel so you can have your arm extended out, and you hold it differently than you do a pencil for writing. Hard to explain, but it really is better, at least for me it was. Especially if you’re drawing large. And you keep the point on your pencil for sooooo long if you use it correctly. But the sound of a dropped pencil in class was always heart shattering, because you know that means whoever dropped it just lost 4 inches of pencil, and another five minutes of sharpening. You’d be surprised at how quickly you can sharpen them with a good amount of practice, I actually find it really satisfying and relaxing.

That could be a neat hack to save time sharpening, and also keep your pencils from breaking during travel. Sounds like a fun thing to look up and see if it exists!

It trains you both in learning to draw accurately and how to paint at an easel.

Haha you describing how hard it was to find the Jo Sonja medium! Usually i can’t find any supplies UA-camrs use in Australia, and if I do they are SO expensive. Jo Sonja is everywhere here, I have a few of their mediums/varnishes because they’re sold at Spotlight which is our version of Michael’s/Hobby Lobby and if you are a member they often have great VIP sales. 7:47 What on earth is the point of sharpening a pencil like that? You could just buy a mechanical drafting pencil (that is, the clutch-style lead holders for 2mm leads) and just extend the lead a bunch. Not that I see how it makes any difference in how the lead wears - all it does is make you rightfully afraid of breaking the lead, and thus forces you to use a very light hand. But you could teach yourself to do that with a normal pencil or mechanical pencil.
Congrats on the wedding! Also, the thing with the crayons would technically be an encaustic technique. Anyone interested should check out the term, it's neat.

I’m taking classic art classes and we do that to our pencils but also gently sand them regularly to make them sharp. They’re much better for details and though shading takes ages, the results are so beautiful.
I am amazed by blending of crayons using a hairdryer, and the cheap marker and straw airbrush. The pencil I know of, as the artist Proko uses it for versatile shading. Also congratulations on the wedding! Your wedding dress is stunning!
