    As a Dutchie, I audibly squeaked when you pulled out the Old Holland! The reason the paint is made in such small batches is because they still use the old processing methods from the Golden age of the Dutch masters, so you'd be painting with a very pure recipe like what Rembrandt and Vermeer would have used. They also have oil paints! If anyone ever comes across it, I highly recommend the Golden Barok Red watercolor from Old Holland. It's the most gorgeous single-pigment, characteristic rust colour that's just absolutely magical on paper!

    I paint with Chinese and Japanese brushes. You’re supposed to bloom the tip slightly with water to remove the adhesive that holds the hair together. Ideally, you would have more than one brush. A newer brush is used to create fine lines because most of the adhesive is still in the hairs. Older brushes with less adhesive are used for washes and larger surfaces.

    Been watching for a couple years now and am I the only one who's felt like Rae now does alot of repeat stuff? This isn't meant as criticism and I'm sorry if it comes across this way but the past four thumbnails and titles and video concepts have all been INCREDIBLY similar. And in comparison to a year ago where there was alot more variety (stuff like art hacks, product reviews, art challenges, and experimenting with different styles). It's a shame cause I used to love the videos but now I feel like I've already seen it cause of how similar it was to the previous one. Again I love you Rae and adore the channel it's just an observation. Like i would adore just a simple voice over video of Raes painting/drawing process and just a draw with me. Id adore it.

Since they're usually antique or discontinued pieces, unless she's reselling them afterward, I can't imagine where she'd be donating them to. I'm moreso wondering if she just chucks them in a drawer or something, she's made so many of these videos now.

    There's another similar thing that Gamblin does, and you'll want to check into it if you are so inclined, and it definitely fits the standards for rarity. Their paintmaking shop has Torit air filtration systems to keep stray pigment out of the air, and once each year take the collected pigment from the filters and make one single run of a gray oil paint made from that collected pigment. They call it Torrit (with two r's) Grey and since the mix of pigments will never be quite the same from year to year, no two tubes of Torrit Grey from subsequent years will ever be quite the same.
    So it's seasonal (which is on-brand for us in the Paciic Northwest), limited supply, and unique. They have had local store promotions where your retailer would give out a single tube for free if you knew how to ask and then each year they'd have a contest where people would do monochrome paintings off this year's batch..
    I don't know if they do those anymore but they still offer Torrit Grey each year because that's how Gamblin rolls, and you should really check this out if you haven't yet.

    • @berolinastrassmann
      @berolinastrassmann 9 місяців тому +2

      That's interesting. Schmincke started doing a similar thing: they collect pigments left over from their pastel making process and make a "Random Grey" colour. Every year they put those pigments in a different medium: pastel, oil or watercolour. Neat to know other makers do this too!

    When you pulled out the ink stick and then the brush I can say that I'm envious of your commitment. Those items are so high quality I'm in awe every time I see them being used. The rest of the items are amazing as well but those two are top tier.

    I have that inkstone! My aunt brought it for me from China in the 1980, I had no idea it was so rare. The stamp is not there anymore since I have used it but the box it came in is soooo pretty and still as good as new

    Cold fact: The Chinese also used the ink and the brushes(not as high quality it was a long time ago) it was used for writing fancy letters(shu fa ), currently, they still do shu fa but with a more modern ink.

    Old Holland watercolour paints are very easy to get a hold of there on Jacksons art. Is someone who really enjoys Watercolor there are far rare ones out there, but it’s not a brand. It’s a pigment that would be rare.
