Methinks it's probably gonna be closer to an Empire at War (2). I mean, Creative Assembly also made Halo Wars 2, which is closer to that traditional RTS style compared to the Total War formula
Yup can't really do a star wars strategy game without space battle aspect (imho)

One correction, Creative Assembly has done a sci fi game, Halo Wars 2.
They were contracted by Microsoft to make it. If they were to make a Star Wars game, they could copy the old Empire at War format and make a successor to that game. Or they could do something completely new.

I can totally see a Total War: Star Wars game. They can use the Empire map system as well as a mix of Napoleon and Shogun 2 style warfare.
I have also seen rumors just on forums but nothing concrete that a Warhammer 40K Total War is a possibility instead of Star Wars or Dune.
I hope they decide to drop this, and Disney allows Petroglyph to make empire at war 2.
Nah, empire at war was good but kind of goofy, A total war star wars will make it way more serious and have it in a way bigger scale

@@RIF445 what do you define as "large scale war." Because empire at war has planetary management fleet battles and ground battles. Far more then total war at the time.

They should, or they should have. The company lost a shitload of money and then released an absolute banger of a DLC for Warhammer III and announced some really great stuff for their historical games. I think that they got the message,
I think The Great Book of Grudges made a video on this... He is convinced that this SW:TW, isnt happening, since GW is too ironfisted to allow it, and WH:TW is too much of a cash-cow for CA to defy them. I'm paraphrasing here, check his video yourself if you'd like.
If there s no space battles,it s half a game.
I like total war and star wars, but I dont think the style of gameplay would fit with star wars lore as the gameplay is pretty much just lines of people going at each other
I agree. The interesting thing is that the next three games all dont fit the current total war model but are all similar to each other in aspects. I have no idea if it will work or not.
40k, Star Wars and WW1.
That could work with Clone Wars though at least, since that's often how Clones and Droids are shown fighting each other. Those lines of tropps with blue and red lasers flying back and forth and making sparks on contact as smoke rises from the blast points- could be a lot of fun!
Old Republic era would be about perfect, though.
@@PhoenixGodwin As an indie dev AND SW lore nerd, I can't think of any way I'd balance this in terms of TW style gameplay, TW games are all about the morale and stamina mechanics, if all your units are purely ranged and function the same way, you don't get the same kind of dynamic experience that forms the CORE of TW games. If they're going to make a game based on ANY scifi universe, save for maybe Dune, I think they will have to do it outside of the TW medium, or they will have to reinvent the medium. This doesn't mean they can't use what CAN be adapted into their new game, the turn based campaign stuff will always work, diplomacy will always work, but ultimately the battles themselves would, or at least SHOULD be nothing like any previous TW games, so I don't think this game should even be under that title.
And before someone points out that most units in Napoleon and Empire are ranged, they're both ranged AND melee, bayonets don't really show up a lot in Star Wars, and they don't exist at all in the GAR or the CIS. Sometimes you see melee combat, but it's clear most clones or droids aren't equipped for this. Add to that the fact that B1's having the ability to feel fear is definitely the exception rather than the norm when it comes to combat droid models over all, so you have to wonder how all the morale mechanics would even work, let alone fatigue, since droids don't usually get tired very quickly.
The Gungan and droid army battle in the Phantom Menace was just that.
This game being real is one thing. Whether or not it actually releases and is good is another.

total war ground battles for something like this would also be different because total war has not dealt with anything approaching modern/futuristic engagements, which are not similar to line battles, and the inclusion of walkers/repulsor lift vehicles. They may use the ideas from Warhammer, like the dwarven tanks to help with this. However, I feel like it will still be a departure from the normal. I will be interesting to see how CA creates something like this.
Creative Assembly product quality has consistently been in the toilet since Rome 2. Don't hold your breath that they make anything good. Don't ever preorder and 100% wait for reviews to come out before buying.
CA as of recent has been extremely Anti consumer, & if there going to just make Empire at war without a good modding support like a map editor or campaign editor I am just going to stick with the EAWX team until Petrglyph is allowed to take another shot at creating a star wars game.
I know it's a pipe dream but I hope EaW 2 has official Clone Wars content

Regarding Pharoah Total War. The issue is that these 'Saga' spin off titles (Troy Saga, Pharoah Saga) is that they're made by a smaller studio in Bulgaria. I enjoy them but they're definitely less ambitious and not as polished as the mainline UK-made Total War games (3 Kingdoms, Warhammer, Rome, etc)
3 kingdoms, warhammer or rome (2) none of them were or are even polished. Warhammer 3 is still a bug riddled mess, Rome 2 only got better after a long time and many, many patches and 3 kingdoms is much the same.
Why should I get excited for another Star Wars game that’s going to get cancelled or endlessly delayed?
There is no chance of this coming out in the next two years. Since Covid the release window for games has been in flux and they just had a ton of layoffs ontop of that. This is also very unlikely to be the next release for the company as they have had more substantiated leaks for longer that total war warhammer 40k will be the next release. Its going to be atleast 3 years before it comes out probably more.
I'm very confused by why people have latched onto this so quickly considering it comes from one of the least reliable leakers in the total war scene goin "trust me." Considering the slew of other games that have been in development for ages at CA even if it did come out it will be in a half a decade at the soonest if you consider the lifecycles of these games.

Honestly this should be taken with a HUGE grain of salt until we have an official announcement, but that's just me.
I've just been getting sick of StarCraft fans saying things like "were getting a new game now since Microsoft bought Blizzard!!!" Do I want a new StarCraft game, absolutely, but until and unless Microsoft specifically says something I think it's safer to assume that it's not happening and it should be no different with this rumor.
Unless it's completly modable to the point modding teams like the Thrawn's Revenge crew can fullfill their vision better with the new game than with EaW, I'm not really interested. The last few CA products weren't all that good in vanilla. At least not in my eyes.

What you should ACTUALLY do is temper your expectations. As any modern TW fan will tell you: Creative Assembly is NOT the same studio that made Fan Classics such as Rome, Medieval II or Shogun. Across the years innovation of game mechanics and features has stagnated, aside from dumbing down series staple features and making combat look more and more cartoonish. They've also had a lot of recent controversy covering all the classic modern gaming favourites such as, lack of launch content, overcharging for DLC and just generally being content to do as little work as they can get away with for maximum profit. It should also be mentioned that, apart from Halo Wars 2, they have no experience working on any modern/futuristic settings and whilst there are whispers of a 40k game, nothing is official and like this leak, they should be taken with a huge fistful of salt.
I hate being so pessimistic but CA and Lucas Arts (or whatever the games department is called this week) has the kind of track record that makes me super sceptical.

This doesn't make me excited anymore for this game. By the way this game isn't a mystery they confirmed like last year that they were making another RTS. I'm Just surprised that it survived the EA purge unlike the Mando game that they were making witch sounded cool.

idont know if i trust ca to make a star wars game if they do i love to see space battles inspired by the total war empire naval battles think that could be pretty fun if indeed the rumors are true man i need a new rts star wars game with space and ground i wish we got an update on respawn games wich i belive they are making both a xcom style game and rts but i am not sure
Really hope they will focus on the Clone Wars era- that's really probably the best fit for Total War's gameplay style. It makes sense to move formations of Clones and Battle droids etc in formations against each other, and that could be quite a fun spectacle. The more guerilla-style combat of the Rebels doesn't seem like it would translate so well.
I think they could copy the format of Empire at War and build a newer version of it. Creative Assembly made Halo Wars 2 and that's nothing like their mainline Total War games. I think they could improve the original EaW formula and make a great game
I said this before under another similar comment, but just looking at TW as ''dense formations duking it out'' is a very surface level take. Morale and fatigue / stamina mechanics form the core of TW battle gameplay, melee has always been a requirement, you just can't get these when the other army has robots that don't tire and (apart from B1's) don't tend to run away either, and neither army issues bayonets of knives (vibroblades) as standard equipment for their troops. A game in the vein of EaW or Halo Wars would work much better here.
This is dope hopefully it’s not a total let down like the rest of the new total war games
