Hey SP. Yet another great video, and one that saved me $20. I agree with most everything you said. The only thing I take issue with is that the fading on the DTM is actually more accurate then the freeware loco. I sent you a picture of the actual locomotives with that livery, and you can clearly see a dot pattern of fading colors. "Holy purple wheels Batman"! Still LMAO over that one.
The second best way is to look for DTM on any Train Sim dlc page. Those dlcs you absolutely avoid unless there are enhancements for them or they're fixed. This guy just needs to stop making dlcs period and let the professionals make them because clearly he's not fit for making high quality stuff. When I saw the P40DC dlc on the Steam store, I was thinking "Oh hell yeah, this is going to be fucking epic". Then I saw "DTM" as the devs. I was hesitant at first, but if it's a Pro Range, there's no way DTM could fuck anything up. I only say that because I was never able to get the UP U50 which looked really good in the screenshots and I only wanted that dlc for the freight and caboose anyway. Then, when I saw the light color of the P40DC's lights in the screenshots, I already knew this dlc was gonna flop. I had it in my cart too. The first thing our friend here picked on, that dlc was out my cart instantly. I swapped it for another pro range loco that's actually worth buying. I honestly almost feel bad for the guy, but I can't have sympathy for him until he realizes that the crap he releases is shit and needs to improve in terms of quality. I'll most likely get the P40DC, but only for the stock, the loco I won't even touch until there are enhancements for it. I get that locos are loud bitches, but NS GP38-2 High Hoods are quiet as hell if they're not moving. Their engines are almost dead silent.
I just realized, that the brake sounds are all taken directly from Smokebox's Big Boy. Steam sounds on a diesel locomotive. Steam sounds. On a diesel. Why. (Also, the engine sounds w/o HEP are the default Kuju GEVO sounds from eons ago.)
I mean it was an attempt at something new but everything of DTM is always rushed and likely broken. Imagine trying to sell a TV built in 1990 to someone with todays standards
I bought the DTM P40DC this morning, and it's incredibly loud. A bunch of stuff seemed off to me, but this is the first time I've seen a P40 done for Train Simulator, so I went ahead and got it. I purchased the pack mainly for the rolling stock, including the Material Handling Car (MHC) and the Superliner II series cars. I guess I wanted to see how it turned out. Overall, it gets maybe a 5-7 out of 10 for me.
100% agree with you on with stuff being off looking, I'm shocked you said great looking step up for DTM 🤣😂. Your attention looking at detail is Honestly what makes your Video's so Dam good to watch as nothing passes you without finding something Wrong which I love, it keeps me coming back for more every video you post, that and the funny humor wisecracks 😂Keep It Great Job. I can't get that sound of Air leaking out of my head when in cab horrible sounding, I was laughing sometimes you were when looking at the control brown ware & tare looking but the metal silver plate where the horn and bell & sand buttons look New. 😂Nice looking toggle switch & seats but everything else looks like ass. There's a horn I must have gone deaf because I don't hear anything besides Air. That is insane how far away you can hear that unit just sitting. For how bright those Lights are you should have tested it at night and seen if it made it look daylight or if they were weak looking.
Thanks for the review. :) Honest but needed. I agree that I'd expect better in 2023. To be fair, many of your sound issues are core issues, I notice them in various ways as well. For a year or two sound cuts out binary now, station ambience and most else, and you use zoom, so you are actually triggering it, when between the cars. Some of it is new to me, like when the horn and engine sound is coming from behind, it's not in the video, maybe you have a surround setup? By the way, the engine sound is the same as every Kuju GE - ES44AC, P30CH, SP 9-44CW...
I purchased these first thing in the morning, the passenger car sound and the locomotive sounds need tweaking because of how far away you can hear them, but the views in the superliners are very nice
My pitch of a Moffat Tunnel Subdivision Route (set in the early-mid 1990s) in the game features a built-in California Zephyr set. This includes a phase III P40DC that’s closer to the classic RSC P42DC, paired with some phase III MHC cars, a phase III baggage car, and two superliner sets; one phase III and the other phase IV which includes a transition car. I’m not a content creator for Railworks, but I’m doing some research to pitch an idea that could have massive potential, especially a better P40DC on Steam.
Great feedback and you’re not harsh enough about the details. Why are these lackluster half ass deployments. If it isn’t done to a 100% why even bother? The throttle and brakes are complete shit
It can perhaps work on any routes with third rail, like the Brighton Main Line. I tried the old one (with the early 21st century phase livery) on the route with a train to simulate the City of New Orleans train and run on AI.
Is it just me, or is this the first pro range locomotive to ever be terrible? I don't have the dlc myself, but hearing you talk about a shit show taking place just before your video review sounds like DTM fucking up was inevitable.
Hey man I have tried to get the free pack to work but can't get it My file names are a little different from what the read me said. Would you know anything to help out, I did contact them and still waiting to hear.
I have a few DTM add-ons myself (such as the SD50, U50, DD35A, GP30 and LWT-12 'Aerotrain'), and they're fairly basic for the most part. I remember the LWT-12 having poor sounds and acceleration. Out of sheer curiosity, I still follow DTM on Facebook, but I haven't bought anything from him in ages, so this bad reputation he's now got is new to me. If what a lot of commenters have said here is anything to go by, I won't get this P40DC myself.
In HEP mode, because the prime mover runs at a constant 900 RPM, the rhythm or beat of the engine remains the same, regardless of throttle position. However, the more electricity you demand from an alternator, the greater the magnetic field which makes it harder to turn. So, in order to maintain the 900 RPM the prime mover needs to add more fuel/power and that affects the sound. As you give it more throttle the base sound gets louder and the engine sounds "grouchier", giving you a more powerful "chug". But, like I mentioned before, the rhythm stays the same.
I am trying to install the freeware (UTS) pack and following the instructions but it is not showing up in the game, can you possibly do an install video for those?
Schnauzahpowahz, actually the "twin" is correct as there was always a second engineer in these locomotives. I'm not kidding. As for the lights and well the Genesis with injections, yeah DTM were off by a few inches.
The scripts were not broken. The fella doing the stream appears to have had insufficient practice beforehand and was moving the throttle/dynamic brake handle in the wrong direction. I wrote the script. It has no errors in it. The script error described in one of the review streams pertains to one of the items of rolling stock, not the locomotive.
That pulled stream must've been a disaster for even DTG to take it down compared to their usual fumbling and stumbling around issues. As for a new build and new software it looks just as bland and outdated as the rest of what DTM does. I'd like to know what makes it "Pro" though as what was shown isn't that complex compared to what's available already 🤷♂️
DTM fell hard. Very hard. I remember back in the day when the SD45 had just dropped and it was the shiznits. It really did add some freshness to Railworks. But now? Oof. Seems like they just don't care anymore. One would expect to get better as time goes on, but it seems like DTM is back peddling compared to the other American-content producers. Stand this next to stuff that's coming out at the same time, like the Kb? Lmao
I first heard of this locomotive on the dovetail site, I was excited, then I saw DTM, depression and now your video critiquing with 4 megabytes… (I then proceeded to go to the toilet and barf)
They're seriously charging for a freeware MSTS add-on quality model? Seriously, look up videos of *free* car mods for Assetto Corsa and then come back and compare to this model! Also, why is the alerter going off when the train is stopped and the brakes are applied?
Haha 😂that’s almost as bad as dewalt and their new battery zero mower at this big expo event getting unveiled and the whole big ordeal inside and whatnot and then outback where you can test them out, the thing caught fire and burned to the ground cause ya can’t put out a lithium fire 🔥 like normal fires 😂😂😂 that’s epic

It did and thats fine, but its not necessary to reverse it on the keyboard

That brake release at 49:26 sounds *suspiciously* like the brake sounds from Smokebox's engines, which iirc were recorded off of a D&RGW K class.
