I just accompanied a student last night for his Senior Recital in this piece. It was a lot of work! But very much worth it. It's a fairly early piece for Hindemith, and I think it's interesting that it has so many unique textures and approaches. A lot of his later music, especially the sonatas, tends to sound very similar, but this piece really stands out. Wolfy says that the opening theme is worth a million bucks. I couldn't agree more -- it is so warm and gorgious, and Tertial, lol! I'm grateful for having learned and performed such an outstanding composition!
I'm glad Hindemith came along and restored the true meaning of music, after the atonalists' chasm with the very meaning of music. This is complex, interesting, experimental...but NEVER ugly.
The opening theme of this Sonata is worth a million dollars. Love at first sight, in sound.

Beautiful...i love the viola sound, and Hindemith's music.
the best interpretation so far.

which is ironic because most of hindemith's music is ugly af, much more ugly than the serialists
Wonderful playing!
for a moment i read kim kardashian oh dear
I doubt that it's her. For her, "Hindemith" means "myths about having a huge hind".
