I really enjoy the videos without narration and simply the ambient sounds of the tools being used and the work being done. However, I would suggest you write what is being used on the bottle such as in instances where you used the (acetone?) to remove the paint from the jar lid. And most don't know what you used (for sure) as the flammable fluid inside the jar. Thanks for your videos and good day sir
In the UK , in the 1950's, we had a camping stove, with the brand name "STESCO" that worked on the same system. They had a cork to block the small fuel hole in the coil, and were a right bugger to turn off ! Safety was a blow out lead seal. Think they were banned for being too dangerous. Still have mine and it still works, with Coleman fuel !
My first campstove was a commercial version of this. I think maybe $4 in the 70's. Maybe in part because of the brass reservoir, it had a propensity for thermal runaway. No way to control it. Had a smaller copper loop than the one in the video (that you plugged with a cork for "safe" travel) and would eventually shoot a 6" torch-like flame out one side and a 4" flame out the other side of the loop, pretty much missing my little aluminum frypan completely, and carbonizing anything it did hit. It was frightening. After one episode on a trial run with my girlfriend, where we sat at a distance from this roaring little hellion until it ran out of fuel, I went out and bought a proper stove: a little square Optimus that I still have, that still works, and that I still use.
Probably like oil lanterns. The oil heats the metal lantern, moves to the reservoir, as the oil warms, the wick becomes more efficient as the oil thins. You have to pre heat a lantern for about 10 minutes. A small 1/2 inch flame in a cold lantern can go 3-5 inches. I sometimes forget to keep it low at first, soot smoking the chimney.
This is not new for me , in 60's it was available in market ( container was made of brass and the remaing parts were the same as shown in vedio.overall there is nothing new
When you twisted the copper tube I thought, ok I can do that and then you got that iron tube weighting a tone and I thought what a good job I got one just like that in my kitchen drawer!😂😂😂😂
I'd use this (with caution) hunting or fishing in my hut in Bush Alaska as a short term light source by adding tin or aluminum for reflection near the flame. The glass jar does worry me but here in the Bush this could be useful. This might burn a structure down in the lower 48.
Keep in mind that if the temperature is cold enough this kind of device won't work. It has to be warm enough for the alcohol at the hole in the tube to produce the vapor so it can be lit.
Very nice, Your pot stand would really benefit from some air holes in the bottom to allow fresh oxygen to enter like a chimney. You would get a hotter flame 🔥
dis ting is da bomb... literally! "loosen the lid to adjust flame, if the fuel supply catches fire, it's too loose...' and the loos lid fuel supply is enclosed in a heat reflecting outer shell, for crying out loud, go buy a freaking Coleman or equivalent!!!
I can't do it! Coleman with all it's safety features doesn't appeal to me! If I can't potentially blow my camp while out running trotlines then I don't want it. I want risk! I want to see a miniature nuclear wasteland on a creek bank!
Unfortunately these alcohol stoves are extremely dangerous and can cause a fire to spread very easily. Using pipe cleaners instead of gauze is safer. However, there will be times when the flame is burning and you can not see it. Seen this on many other survival channels.
Ya know what I could really use? A way to take this old stove I have, and make it into a pipe saw, or a grinder. Also, if I could use this old can opener and toaster that I already to make that conversion, I could really save some money, too.
Alcohol stove tip: use methanol., not isopropyl alcohol. Medical/rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) contains water, it will leave a black sooty mess on your cooking pot. Instead use methanol., it can be found cheaply as a gas line anti-freeze/water remover in a product sold in auto parts stores- Heet the one in the yellow bottle.
Still trying to figure out why and how? Why build it, it's clearly not suitable for camping. How does the burner work? I'm guessing the alcohol wicks up the gauze and evaporates allowing the vapors to catch fire through the hole but why the coil and why hole at the bottom of it?
Interesting but I think the glass jar is a safety hazard. Not a design I would entertain. I liked the old steel bodied methylated spirit camping stove, much safer.
Judging by the height of the flame I'd build the metalstove 1-2cm higher for a more efficient burn/heat transfer. Other than that nice design and idea.
Dead ass one time I had JB cold weld on my metal glasses and I went into the courthouse in custody and the court Marshall went to the lengths of scraping it and setting the scrapings on fire ; but he had some weird intuition it was some quote on quote “James Bond” shit and he didn’t want me escaping. I literally had the best time watching this dude go to outrageous lengths to prove it wasn’t some home made plastic mission impossible red light green light style shit.
Well, how is the heat adjusted while a pot is on the stove? While this uses an inexpensive fuel, most would be better served with a dual fuel Coleman stove. This is too dangerous to use around, where a small bump, could spill hot food on someone.
metal putty, good stuff, and meths, white sprite , there are a few vids out there that show you what you need, 8mm copper tube, the stuff they use on cars, for your brakes, about 2 ft, do what I do, pliers, small metal saw, nick it off your next doors car, it cheap :)
Dang! Now I gotta go all the way to Russia to find some of that snazzy epoxy putty! How do you turn this simulated Bunsen burner OFF? He didn't show that!
Apaga la pinche luz broder, para ver bien la flama y agrega el diámetro de la broca pequeña ,la longitud del tubo, hasta donde debe llegar la tela, tolerancias?
dont get stuck with this tread they will not have traction on back up like farm tractor poor traction on backing!!!!!! use all weather or winter tire far far better in winter!!!
The glass scares me I wonder how hot it gets after 30 minutes while boiling water like you were maybe take temperature of glass after a while to ensure you wont have a possible explosion or leak causing a fire I would probably use aluminum or something else with a higher heat tolerance and put an adjustable bleeder valve to control flame and leave the lid tight otherwise great idea !

Nice work 👏

Great idea of alcohol stove, but the little of this video doesn't work fot it.
Absolutely brilliant love it cheers Larrysullivan in London

Enjoyed watching but couldn't help but think that for the price of that electric hack saw thing you could get a really nice stove!
One of the coolest ideas I've ever seen 👍👍👍
I think you and James (comment right before yours) have an argument. You two need to duke it out.
This is not new for me , in 60's it was available in market ( container was made of brass and the remaing parts were the same as shown in vedio.overall there is nothing new
Great invention
Medical alcohol is isopropyl alcohol ??? Thanks
This isn't just DIY, you've become a scientist by now! SL

Next time, put the wick into the pipe while it's still straight.

It's alcohol. Guaranteed combustion air circulation would only weaken the heat transfer to the material being heated

You worry too much.
Excellent
I love watching this guy pound metal, wood etc . Countless times in a micro second faster than a machine
All hail the mighty putty!

Um.... how do you turn it off?

Fill tubing with fine sand before bending...stops it flattening.
does the wick go all the way through the copper tube or just inserted into the ends a ways?
Up to the bend will be enough.
Just to get the fuel up. Then evaporation will do the rest.
He'd buy a hundred pounds of yeast and some copper line
Everybody knew that he made moonshine.......
STEVE EARLE
You have all that workshop gear and no stove. Priorities Mate.
O0ppp
Goooooood job
Professional workshop channel
Good luck

A lot easier to purchase such item.

Very cool
Very good project friend 👍👍👍

Good stuff
What liquid is that? Alcohol?
Super gracias
How do you turn it off....?

l am just wondering why the place you put the pot is so rickety? Also, epoxy, really?
Thousands of dollars worth of equipment. I take an old corn in the cob can run a piece of wire across to holes near the top and light some twigs.
Tell me again why schools got rid of shop class???🤔
Brilliant if you have a fully equipped workshop.
Good on you for the comment. Imagine the things we could create and make.....if only we were fully equipped like those who post.
Or you could plug a kettle in
You could do the same thing with a jig saw. Might take a little longer but it would work just the same......
I was thinking the same thing. All those tools to make a basic alcohol stove not even suitable for camping.
What is that 2 part putty called please I cant read it thank you. Excellent video as usual
epoxy putty ?
Maybe start with a smaller hole to get the flame just right? You can always enlarge it as required? Nice job though.
Wow.. Cool project mate 👍🍻🤩
Tip, Never wipe copper after drilling with bare hands, you can end up with a piece of swarf in your finger causing copper poisoning.
I din't know you were such a bender ! Great job, but the Kelly kettle just uses twigs you find everywhere
Did any of you make the boat with the copper tube in Scouts? Kinda reminds me of that.
the pop pop boat, and yes :)
you can still get them on e bay, :)
be nice if told everyone what your using as you go along what is the clay looking stuff what is the liquid you put in the bottle ???????????????
metal putty, good stuff, and meths, white sprite , there are a few vids out there that show you what you need, 8mm copper tube, the stuff they use on cars, for your brakes, about 2 ft, do what I do, pliers, small metal saw, nick it off your next doors car, it cheap :)
So what's the burn time?
Great idea👍👍
That's cool
How did you controle the flame
By loosening and tightening the cover. It lets more or less air in.
At first, I thought - No way in Hell! Then, after seeing it work, I'm a believer. 🤠
why did you get medical alcohol cause like you can get alcohol fuel at like home depot and its about just the same.
Pretty cool brother 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Does it work with spiritus too ?
Buy a trangia stove replacement burner £4.99p it works ten times better and.needs no building.
Is the base both to hold the pot and to contain the jar if it were to go boom for some reason?
It's just to hold the pot.
Gosh that's extremely dangerous all that hot boiling water balancing so precariously up there like that
Amigo para la mecha que material se usa esparadrapo gracias
Que combustible le hecho?.
Did a doctor say " get some boiling water."
only an hour and a half to boil a cup of water
Curious how long it last
...how long it lasts.
Dang! Now I gotta go all the way to Russia to find some of that snazzy epoxy putty!
How do you turn this simulated Bunsen burner OFF? He didn't show that!
Unscrew it
I'd have thought it was obvious.
Bonjour
Superbe idée👍
Brabissimo
Why ?????
Thought at first he was making a mini still.
eugenious.
Hello mister good job well done i like it beautiful
Que líquido se le echa para que a prenda
Clever
Muy bueno,es una bomba. ET.
Very cool video good ideal
0:20 massive angle grinder to cut the tube.......... PURE professional level skills ffs
Craftsman!!
Congrats for the extra safe positioning of the boiling pot!!!😳😳😳
😂😂 Yes, safety, first of all 😂😂
@@giovannimurru_1965 😜😜😜
how the hell do you turn it off?
Isn't it obvious?
Am I the only one that wasted 8:03 minutes of my life I’ll never get back?
I'm with you 💯percent what a waste of time. I have a stove in my house and I know how to build a 🔥
Excelente labor
Earned a sub fir that
a sign of a weak project when you must see the entire thing before knowing what's being made. all I can say is, thank God for the fast forward button
Are there tiny holes in the copper releasing fuel vapors, maybe I missed a step going at 2X?
Yeah, he drilled one hole at the bottom loop on the coil.
Bloody brilliant!!!!!!
in the inimitable words of Mr T: 'FOOL'.......................
I know its a candle of some sort, dont even need to watch the video to get closure. Its not a new invention lol :3
The glass scares me I wonder how hot it gets after 30 minutes while boiling water like you were maybe take temperature of glass after a while to ensure you wont have a possible explosion or leak causing a fire I would probably use aluminum or something else with a higher heat tolerance and put an adjustable bleeder valve to control flame and leave the lid tight otherwise great idea !
i didn't care about gloves,nice idea
Btw thanks for the idea for a dop wax heater
Tip ... passing the wick with the straight metal pipe is easier. OK.
That's what I was thinking.
I did not know you have that many thing on your hands 🤣
Yes, that was good.
