- Sheldon's southern accent!! I hadn't seen this scene posted and it's my absolute favorite. It's from Season 2 Episode 21, The Vegas Renormalization. I don't own anything. No copyright infringement intended.
I love the fact that his accent pops out when he is either drunk or in distress, so it’s like a fun little thing to happen for people around him to see him in distress and just pop out in Texan XD

I picked up a little from visiting my family and my mom's accent so i talk like a new Yorker unless I'm upset in any way or drunk/ high 😂 always confuses my friends the first time
@@pewpewkitten I know this is late, but I do the same! A good bit of my Daddio's family lives in Texas, and I tend to pick it up whenever we've seen each other. Ever since then whenever my anxiety flares up, stress, worked up whatever... The Texan comes out xD
I do the same lol. My parents are from totally opposite sides of the country, so I speak more like my northern mom than my southern dad. I have no noticeable accent until I get angry. After that though? Full hick. I sound like I would be right at home on a south Texas farm raising chickens.
My sister does something similar too. She is usually ever so slightly southern, but her accent gets heavier and heavier the more she drinks. He friends have learned to cut her off once she reaches “Texan level”. It’s actually very funny.
As a Texan, our accents come out like this however there are some that just do it naturally
I don't live in Texas but my aunt,uncle, and cousins have southern accents and I've started to pick up th accent that sometimes I slip into one

the actual answer is sheldon is self centered and not logical when the matter is about him. When sheldon playing bangos he violates roomate agreement, watch that clip. He bends logic for himself. I only find it funnier.

Jim Parsons is a gem.
One of the qualities I love about Sheldon is that he does not understand the concept of sarcasm yet he uses it quite a lot.
I'm the opposite. Never miss sarcasm but can't do it to save my life

In addition to bringing out his Texan accent, anger/frustration also seems to heighten Sheldon's capacity for sarcasm. Then again, he just generally seems to be getting better at not only detecting sarcasm but dishing it out as well. As Leonard might say, it's "personal growth."
Why shouldn't Sheldon have a Southern accent? He IS a Southerner!

I'll be the one to say it. Because Sheldon is a genius and he's from a state that is in former confederate territory, mostly republican and has allegations of Racism, Sexism, Homophobia etc. and is one of many states in the southern parts of USA that anything outside it considers them to be the stereotype of the drunken, dumb and malicious, he wanted to drop that accent in fear of being stereotyped too. In other words, he's well aware that the Northern side of USA thinks all Texans and Southerners are stupid, -ist and -phobic and tries to hide his own heritage in fear of being called -phobic, -ist and stupid. Especially stupid considering how that word always seems to be more offensive to High I.Q.'s than the other two.

The whole episode was terrific, one of the best of the series. The best episode of that second season. The friends with benefits conversation was awesome (afflicted, lol).
When you realize that sheldon started the whole “breaking into their apartment” thing.
There are several distinct Texas accents, but Jim Parsons’ version is pretty credible for the character Sheldon is, with his East Texas origins and subsequent higher education.

i agree with sheldon about the "crick" thing...see my aunt owns a camping lot at a Yogi Bear Jellystone campground and its the modern version of camping (has wi-fi,park models with A/C bathroom etc,peoples RVs,camp store,two swimming pools,bathhouses,snack stand,arcade room,small lounge area,planned activities etc) and it has a man made lake too..and isnt very big,people skinny dip in it ALL THE TIME! sometimes ill go swimming in the lake but it often skeeves me knowing im swimming in other peoples a** and crotch juice.....YUCK!! skinny dip in your own pool or the Great lakes or the ocean bc at least they are huge and have currents and naturally recycles itself unlike a little tiny man made lake where the water goes no where there is no current and is the same water that been there for years...lol

He's actually from Houston, Texas. Actually he's from Spring, Texas, just north of Houston. He graduated from the same HS as I did, so he knows a real accent. City Texans have a lighter version of the Texas accent, it gets heavier the farther you get away from the big towns.

I said it used to be thick . East Texan accents can be thick and West Texan accents can be subtle . It depends on upbringing as much as , if not more than , the specific region of the state . Jim`s accent was diluted by his years in California as well as almost always being cast as non-Texans and his main Texan role also having spent much of his adult life in L.A.
The differences between Texas culture and Southern culture are pretty significant...

I`m pretty sure that was deliberate . Jim Parsons had a thick Texan accent when he first auditioned for The Show as he hadn`t been in California that long at the time . They told him to do a stereotypical , nasally Southern Californian nerd voice with occasional hints of often stereotypical Texan thrown in for humor .

Actually, it makes perfect sense. He's locked out of his usual eating venue, and left with only two options, to not eat until he can get to that venue (which will render his food cold and inedible, thereby rendering that option unacceptable), or eat at some other venue, such as Penny's. As Penny's place is a place where food is regularly eaten, and is not dirty (which Sheldon himself has attested to), then it must be deemed an acceptable substitute. Logical progression: If not A then B.
