Not saying he doesn't love his family, but he was moved to react by the hypocrisy and contrary logic of the sermon rather than love of family. His didactic nature compelled him to go back in that church and give them what for!!!
Sheldon is nuanced. There is no other way to put it. He has multiple reasons for doing what he does but in the end, his heart is usually in the right place. That's what matters
@@viksinha5410 I don't. It's an opinion based on the many episodes I have watched of the fictional character named Sheldon and his reaction to various situations.

I love this because Sheldon called the pastor out on how he is creating a judge mental environment for his congregation. I also love that missy knew her mom couldn’t face this alone, so she was there for moral support.
@@celiajane4250 I can assure you that at least it doesn’t stem for a lack of trying. There’s a scene in Young Sheldon where Meemaw reveals to Missy that the reason her mother turned religious is because of complications in Missy’s birth; vowing to embrace Christianity in her fear of losing her only daughter. There are only few acts of love bigger than to change who you are, and try to improve yourself, for the sake of those you love. Albeit to a fault, Mary is still trying to be the best mother for her daughter.
The pastor didn't do or say anything wrong in this scene. He doesn't have total control of how his congregants behave, they're all adults and they make their own choices.
@@johncisney15while that's true, it's still true what Sheldon said. It may have been aimed at the pastor but the pastor is who the congregation looks up to so in a way, he is kind of at fault for not steering his congregation to following what they preach about which is love one another no matter what.
Yes that is so rude yes you may not like that family because 2 out of 6 people got arrested but didn’t god teach us to love another not hate each other?
Sheldon was wrong though, he should use Aramaic pronunciation instead of hebrew. Book of Daniel was written in Aramaic, nebuchadnezzar was Babylonian name, they all speak Babylonian Aramaic at that time.
As a Christian and as someone who has experienced this myself in churches, I do love what Sheldon has said tbh. He who is without sin cast the first stone.
@@Exochosen OK then, shall we just call you Jesus Christ? You are the exact reason organized religion is all a hypocritical sham preying on the ignorant who need a non-existent God because they find it easier than actually taking responsibility for their own decisions/actions. If their life does go to s**t, it’s because they didn’t have enough faith or some such nonsense.
the daughter wanted to go with the mother because the mother promised to god to go to church daily because the daughter had so issues during birth so thats why the mom made the promise to god if missy got born safe
I like that Missy and Sheldon had their own ways to support their mom. While Sheldon's was more direct and confrontational, Missy was emotionally supporting her mother.
Which is also because Sheldon is not a very emotional person, so I like that he used actions and his knowledge to stand up for his family bc it fits his character so well
If Sheldon had been older and partnered up with Georgie, they might have snapped and decided: if we're going to Hell, this entire congregation is joining us too, in a crazy act of arson.
He has a point. I came to the realization that all organized religion is bullshit when I was 14 because the church treated my aunt the same way when she divorced her husband after she found out he had 3 kids from 3 different women behind her back.
As a fellow Christian this scene hit home for me. Our main Preacher's eldest daughter got pregnant at seventeen, and he was forced to stepped down from his position for about a year and everyone acted like the family had the plague. My sister was good friends with another one of their daughters so our families were good friends. I remember how disgusted my mom and I were to how the family was being treated. I also work in rehab facility for recovering addicts, and I normally take the clients to NA/AA meetings. One night we thought to try out a new meeting, but I took us to the wrong address which happened to be a church. When the gentlemen talked to us and we told them we were looking for a meeting, they looked at us like we were convicts. Seriously, it's the hypocrisy that gives us Christians a bad name in society. As Jesus said "He who is without sin, cast the first stone."
I agree. Hypocrisy of some christians give good christians a bad rep. because of it, i'm not super in with religion unlike my parents. most openly religious people (i said openly coz they post or show how much they are devoted christians) i knew or met, are not what they seemed. as a child, i believed all religious church goers were good. turns out they arent all. one of my classmates, went from a christian school, he was taught stuff and all that but he's mean with his jokes. one of my first friends in college, regular sunday church goer and citing the bible, and yet she complained that our friend's mom was just asking her to look out for her daughter, our friend. i know shes right in a way that its not her responsibility but she was just a concerned mother for her kid which is one of our friends. my dad's siblings side, all of them religious, sometimes quoting verses and stuff. but behind that, they have a tight lip in their money and most of the time they dont even notice my dad, which is their elder brother. hell, i heard they didnt even help him in his teen years when he got by depression. my list could go on and on. they are all good people, but not perfect and not all the way good.
yes i mean lets just have prostitutes and sugar daddies giving sermon then. Not that it matters. Even the bible keep contradicting itself so why bother.
As a Christian, I'm so glad Sheldon called them on this. It is sad they don't recognize the hypocrisy and self-righteousness of their behavior, as if they too aren't sinners redeemed only by grace and without any merit or action to redeem themselves.
It's actions like those that make people want nothing to do with the church. Poor Mary loves going to church, but she can't stand how she's being treated by the people she used to call friends.
@UC6G79MUW-Fup_qUz89EjabA she's admitted that. But I think this experience has helped her grow as a person. She's a born again Christian after Missy was nearly a stillborn birth. She wasn't raised as a super strict Christian and you've got to keep an eye on born agains because they can take their faith a bit far. I personally know a guy who found god after a motorcycle accident, he absolutely believes that god spared him. This show makes me hate the church also I really want to see Mary punch someone. Plus could they please just kill off Sheldon's dad, he's depressing.
It comes down to the two phases that they forget, judge not lest ye be judged and let he who is without sin cast the first stone. Scripture only exist to lift us up, not to put other down.
My GF used to be a regular churchgoer. She'd go twice as far out of her way to give a lift to a fellow parishioner every Sunday. One time she was sick and called around trying to find a stand-in. And it came to pass, that on that day, not one other parishioner was genuine enough to get off their lazy, pseudo-pious backside to provide a lift to church for one little old lady with a touch of dementia. Not one of them gave a single solitary damn, so she asked me, an atheist, and I did it.
Honestly, i go to a church every Sunday- i even volunteer to do things and now... through it all, even now when my faith is honestly next to non existent i still keep going. Why? The people at my church are kind helpful and like family to me. Ive known them my entire life (literally, the church is the same age as me) - more than 50% of our congregation volunteers someway or another. and i just find that even if i stop believing in god, I cant let them down. They stuck with me when i was going through hell at school - i went through periods of life where the only thing i was hanging out for was church on Sunday, where I could be with the people that actually cared about me. over the years I've come to the realization that for me, church is not about god, or the teachings thereof. its about family, its about having a home to go to. and its about the friendships I've made along the way. Its warm and feels like a nice weighted blanket feels in the biting cold of winter. If i was born into a place like that, but without god. I would be just as attached to it as i am now with my church. God is honestly for me. secondary or even lower, than the people who make up the church, who mentored me and helped me though touch situations. Who helped me through sensory issues i had when i was little, who encouraged me. my church has always had the philosophy that we need to make everyone feel welcome. whether they're just visiting, or looking for a church. its taught me more about how to be kind and upstanding than i care to admit.
@@DaBoomDude I'm kinda like you haha, Although I don't have a big bond with the people of that church I still go and help a few times, cuz they had helped us in some circumstances and I find nice when they do help other people, even though I'm not christian but neither atheist

As a pastor's kid and a Christian I'm glad to see he called them out. He didn't bash them but simply made a statement and asked a question. I also admire the fact that after what had happened she still went to church. That is true humility that a lot of us (my self included) need to learn.
After that scene though, I think church is out the window for a while. Whether Mary tries another church or simply stops going is yet to be seen in Season 6.
Church is not necessary to love God. Church is hypocritical and a negative false safe space. Your "donations", aren't going to god sweetie. They're basically tips for the pastors. You can pray, read the Bible, and believe in God at home as much as you do in church.

@@48webberthe thing is a lot of people don’t know better, but can still control their behavior and learn how to figure it out. I had to do that, by doing that I have developed a way to subconsciously recognize it a lot easier than I used to, Sheldon can learn to fix that. Things like literalism, and seriousness are very difficult to learn, but something like learning what you should and shouldn’t say is fairly difficult but still very possible, especially for someone like Sheldon who is so smart.
@@BisexualPlagueDoctor although Sheldon hasn't been confirmed as autistic because the producers wanted to avoid to be called ableists, he's autistic af. Autism is a variant of the neurological system and comes with differences and conditions that don't need to be cured because it's impossible curing genetic. Not understanding sarcasm, irony, not knowing how something you say can hurt someone, not understanding untold rules isn't about intellectual quotient. And young sheldon said it plain and clear but I see you missed that episode. There are more types of intelligences: Sheldon is very intelligent more of the norm in pragmatic and rational situations, but lacks of compassion, empathy and social skills. He also has sensory processing issues, so he can't tolerate some noises, food textures (like banana and I totally relate), touching, and therefor he pretends other sensorial stimulation that makes him feel good like the right place he can hear better. Missy, his twin, is the exact opposite, she's way more intelligent in begin perspicacious. And meanwhile many autistic persons try to mask their autistic traits and are able to learn some rules, many others aren't capable of doing this. And you know what? Sheldon may be annoying sometimes, but who are really jerks are his "friends" That constantly mock him and tell him how much they hate him basically, they should be the ones that should understand him the most and they are the meanest
As a Christian, I can see all points...to be fair. But Also as Christian I can say that this is why a lot of people call us judgemental, Hypothetical, and mean. I was at a time a single mother, as well as a Jr. Minister wife, so I fell for people who get treated this way... because, in the long run... WHAT'S...in your closet.🤷🏽
As a Believer, this not ONLY hit home for me but a big reason I don't go to church or follow any organized religious assembly. My parents went to church for so long, and were then looked down upon by the congregation because of their "issues". Once the church heard I had moved to AZ, their status and treatment changed because they had dealt with their "problem". Now, today, we don't speak to each other and haven't for almost 3 years. Their standing with the church and, I their opinion, with God is so important that they don't want a relationship with me. Their only daughter. God doesn't destroy or hurt people, man claiming to act in His name do.
Finding a good congregation where you feel like you are a part of God's work, is so hard these days. I used to like going to church. But, I haven't in years. "Christianity" has just gotten so money focused instead of message focused to the point where it is just plain brutal. And, I don't feel like I am going to church anymore when I am sitting in the sanctuary surrounded by, classist, self-righteous people who only care about their get togethers and "fellowship", their "pretty building" and pleasing the pastor for the sake of their ego. I was in a congregational meeting one time. A lady suggested to the pastor that we reach out to college students. His calm, unbothered response was that they really don't add much to the budget. That was just one of many incidents that led me to finally become weary of looking for a good church and just go unchurched. I don't feel like the "church" is the Church anymore. I feel like, in most congregations these days, the pig is on the altar and the devil is in the walls. Maybe that's a bit harsh. IDK. Or, maybe it's just that the older I get the more I see through people's hypocrisy and nonsense, and the less tolerance I have for it. Maybe it's both that and society changing with the church changing with it.
This doesn't count. The public speaking he is afraid of he often knows it beforehand, like giving a speech at an award ceremony. This is more of a spur of the moment thing. Also this conversation is more directed at Pastor Jeff not the crowd.
My mind : how can young sheldon have better personality than adult sheldon Also my mind: forgets the fact that he was away from home and didn't meet people who he cared about(Leonard) for much period and as a result he changed back to original himself again
I think as he grow older, he just proceed to get more arrogant. His intelligence got to the point where it surpassed everyone around him so he value their opinion less. Young Sheldon currently still has peers he can talk to and in some degree, are on the same level of intelligence. Future Sheldon hit the point where his intelligence is so high that anyone else he conversate with him probably felt like he was talking to animals. I think it make perfect sense he grew to be that way
It always seems like Sheldon will drop everything, even his own self-centeredness, when it concerns his mom being hurt... and him actually realizing that she's been hurt
Sheldon was so awesome in this scene. He was absolutely right calling them hypocrites. Plus the song they picked for the scene was perfect. Losing my religion from REM. I also liked the “He’s got a point” look on that dark haired woman’s face
When the pastor says love one another and Mary and her kids are being ignored, that’s not love. That’s discrimination. Even the Cooper family are dealing with difficult situations they can’t be ignored. They should be included
Yea, like what happened to the Cooper family. Georgie sexual relationship relationship with women who’s eleven years older than her, for example. Their bout to have a baby.

@@126644 It is possible to be both. You can be autistic and be narcissistic. I'd honestly say that's an accurate description of Sheldon, especially the elder Sheldon.
I remember once experiencing something like this. My friend wanted to come to church with me since it had been a while since he went. He was home for the week and was looking forward to going. After the sermon was done my uncle came to me and said that my friend shouldn't come anymore because some people felt scared of him. He tends to always wear dark clothes and doesn't smile a lot. Well I was told that I needed to tell him this and be quick about it. It broke my heart and upset me because I cared deeply for him and he was wanting to start a fresh with his spiritual life. From that point on it upset me to hear them preach about welcoming other in and loving everyone no matter their background. I quite going to that church and found a better one that was more welcoming and showed others love. I hate that people experience things like this because christ taught love not hate.
I love that they have “Loosing My Religion” play in the background from the start of them at Church until basically Sheldon comes back into the congregation to tell them all off. Just really fantastic!!
Truth is when the message or Christian life gets hard many bail out..loose thier religion and maybe to perdition. Jesus preached the Truth and many people left from then on..Jesus even tells Peter if He wants to go too??? Peter replies by saying.."Only You have the words to eternal life." You can't be a wimp..tough it out put your eyes on Jesus not man.
He does deserve one because he is doing a great job of actually mimicking the older Sheldon's voice. He really sounds like him now.....just him, with a still higher pitched, younger voice. It is amazing he is able to capture both the look and the sound.
This scene really struck me. As a fellow Christian, I felt it was sad - and telling. I think of the verse "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." (John 8:7) Have we forgotten that Jesus Himself ate with publicans and sinners? That we are ALL sinners in need of His grace? We can talk about love, but if we do not SHOW it, then we are only making noise. We as Christians seem to forget that "A church is a hospital for sinners; not a museum for saints!"

My father is a retired minister of music, and I was raises in the Christian faith. To see these acts of passive-aggressiveness is shameful. I wholeheartedly approve of how they displayed the hypocrisy through Sheldon. People make mistakes; this isn't some mysterious revelation, it's a fact of life. No one is truly sinless and we should all show respect and caring for our fellows, no matter what they or someone in their family has done.
I mean, the foundation stones of religion are shame, fear & indocrination. Not really weird to see that type of behaviour in such a culture. Then again, you follow the rules of the group and they are the kindest people you will ever meet.
@@theorcamafia There could be some religion I don't know about, but the chances are, yes. Yes they do. We do see in religion, that these topics always come back. 1. Shaming people for not following the rules of the religion, even if they aren't the rules of law. 2. Fear used as a tool. Mostly in combination with death. This plaque happend because we didn't pray hard enough. This flood happened because we made (the) GOD(S) angry. The only way to get a good afterlife is by following our religion. 3. And indoctrination. What happens if both parents follow the same religion? The kid gets indoctrinated in it. They have to join in Ramadan or they have to go to sunday school etc. What do religious, "public" schools do? Indoctrinate the kids. Tell them the earth is 2000 years old, Dinossaurs weren't a thing etc. We see these traits in past religions like the Maya religions. The big modern ones, like Christianity & Islam. The truth cannot be denied. He shall find a voice. Love this scene . Standing up for his mother . Good Sheldon. Especially since out of all the coopers. His mother is the most devoted Christian.
I speculated that they're going to end the series before his voice gets any deeper. Either that or they're going to make some storyline where his pitch goes up from eating something strange, like in the Nanny when Fran has some wasabi.
if you're a Christian you'll actually relate. People in church are suppose to love, support each other like family. But some members tend to forget about that and let their feelings rule over them. Literally forgetting that they're in CHURCH.
Nah. He doesn´t give a fuck about religion and even less for religious people (he can probably feel bothered by having to explain them their hipocrissy. He´s basically giving Howard a detailed explanation about why engineering is pointless)
Something like this happened to a member of our church, they were treated this bad and not by everyone. There was decent amount that treated the family like the plague. My uncle, whose the head pastor called out the people's treatment of the family while on the pulpit. He started his original sermon but 2 minutes in he stopped the sermon and went straight into talking about how ashamed he is at his congregation. He even called out the ones that didn't say anything to the people treating the family badly. Asking them "are you not your brothers keeper?" ...... It was great
@@sassy19762000 yup, it sure is. Unfortunately, alot of so called pastors don't do that 🤷🏾♀️ That's why I love my uncle, he's always been real. He doesn't pretend to be holier than anyone else. He's even been a character witness for a church member's court case and when the judge asked him about the church member and asked/said "I thought all Christians are supposed to be honest & good". And my uncle burst out laughing and said "who told you that? your honor, being a Christian doesn't stop us from being human and it doesn't stop us from having faults, being a Christian just means that you strive to follow the teachings of Christ/god and we all slip up but some of us fail HORRIBLY " he had the judge crackin up lol
Right on, my man. Right on. Church goers talk a big talk, when it comes to actually practicing it in the realest sense. They judge. Christians are notorious for putting sins on a sliding scale. "Yeah I sin, but at least I don't do THAT"
Additionally, George defended Veronica from her mom's boyfriend, and Georgie has been super supportive of Mandy. I think it's why I like this show... it's not saturated with misandry. The male roles are usually the bumbling buffoons.
Even though Sheldon never shown much believe in God throughout the series, this video showed how much love he has towards his mother. Respecting her beliefs.
This clip is not just about Sheldon standing up for his family but also how hypocritical people can be when it comes to being good as an image vs being good on what they say and do. Which is very common to people nowadays.
1:45 - 2:02 YES!! He spoke up about the hypocrisy in people who say they follow the Religion the right way when truthfully half if not most don’t. Sheldon is a man of science however when it comes down to his family, defending them, speaking the truth, he will come through in his own way. Love it. 2:02 - 2:15 I laughed quite a bit because as always in things like that, he is right. Thanks for uploading.
Love one another but don't ignore the sin they are committing. You tell them they are committing a sin and that they can not enter Heaven, if not, their blood will be on your head in the day of Judgment.
There is tendency to hypocrisy in humans, period**, which is why that issue keeps coming up. One of the main things we see Christ doing in the Gospel is calling out the hypocrisy, particularly, of people who are affluent, powerful and prestigious, especially among the "pious." He's not tearing down religion by any means... he's not a wrecking crew, but a doctor. He wants them to change, and do what they've actually been told to do. The problem there, and here, isn't the religion. The religious teaching they're quoting tells them *exactly* how they should be behaving. The problem is the people's failure to carry through when it gets uncomfortable or inconvenient or scary. ** The same man who wrong "that all men are created equal and endowed by their maker with certain inalienable rights" owned a massive number of slaves, and helped preserve slavery. It felt too difficult a sacrifice for him to avoid. becoming a hypocrite. Some of the celebrities who promote climate awareness live in huge, air conditioned mansions and fly around on private jets. They care...but change is inconvenient and uncomfortable. For hundreds of years, scientists looked at clear evidence-- first, the evidence of their eyes and their life experiences, and later, well conducted research.... Clear evidence that a previously held "truth" of science was wrong: the "fact" that "non human animals don't have emotions/are incapable of 'suffering' " It seemed to not be true. Anyone who has interacted with a mammal for any length of time can see that they have cognition and emotions, even if those are not identical to ours. But instead of acknowledging the truth (Which among other things would have made vivisection ethically problematic) they turned it into an aggressively defended blind spot, and for decades, they ruined the careers of colleagues who challenged it. Religion has no premium in hypocrisy.
This really was amazing to watch. I'm agnostic but I 100% stand for what Sheldon says in this scene. Really shows how much he's grown as a character in this show as well as how much the actor portraying him as grown as a performer. Well done!
I actually agree with Sheldon as many people who are so called “religious” tends to be hypocritical. Love one another, but despise those who are weak and vulnerable. Talks behind other people after they did worship service. Sheldon is being realistic.
I am a Christian and honestly, I have never been in these type of toxic church situations-ever. I grew up in a church that did not shun away anyone… we had this lady with a heroine addiction that became a Christian because she was treated with respect and kindness in my church (something that was rare for her) and this girl who got pregnant (who was already a member of the church) and her boyfriend left her… not a single person shunned her. If anything, everyone became protective of her and told her that they’d help how ever they can. That child is 8 years old now and while the dad is not in that picture, the mom found a good man who she married and he treats the child like his own. Honestly, church isn’t a place filled with good people but rather it’s a hospital for the broken. We need to care for one another and our actions should be a reflection of what Jesus would do.
Saw all the time through my youngest brother and mother. You mustn't have been that observant. My brother is openly gay, and dropped out of highschool due to the harassment, he was always ridiculed by the kids at church, and the congregation EXPECTED my mom to do all the IT work. You have to have such things either be happening to you in the moment, or be very observant to see them. Christians, in general are disgusting people that have been very disrespectful and nasty to my family. I no longer have any part of the organized religion and I'm happy about it. I walk my own path, and don't let a deity, infernal, or celestial, dictate my life.
Chalk it up as the exception. I have seen the most devout, bible thumpers relatives being the most hypocritical. I am catholic. I have seen the church talk about giving back to the community as followers of christ. But the church would stiff the services of their gardners when they charged a reduced rate. The church had fundraising drives for a new pipe organ. We all chipped in and it only gets played in the english services but in the spanish services we get a dude playing the guitar taking down to us to join him in singing. I know the guy as my dad's coworker and family friend. When I donated my time at the church in my teens in packaging food for the needy. The church fired the main person in charge of food drive. Who was actually going to local stores and picking up canned goods and driving them back in his personal truck cause he was christian and not catholic. I Stopped attending church in protests due to the pedo scandals from a decade ago. When the catholic church preaches of Jesus shunning riches and the vatican rolling around like a pimp having gold plated everything. I respect a pimp more for being more honest than the pope.
Watching the show from season 1 onward and seeing this young man's growth as Sheldon and as his own Pearson and actor is honestly amazing to watch! Amazing show so happy the big bang theory was created forever the greatest sitcom ever!!!
As a Christian and somebody who never even watched this show (nor the official Big Bang Theory), I REALLY appreciate this scene. Nowadays, SO MANY people judge and reject Christianity as the result of hypocrisy in the church. Those who claim to be "Christian" and who also judge others apparently forget that Jesus took his place on the cross for EVERYONE. We are ALL sinners, and just because somebody sins differently than you, that doesn't AUTOMATICALLY make you "better" than them. We ALL need forgiveness and a TRUE relationship with Jesus. With all of that being said, I applaud this scene. What did these self-proclaimed "followers" expect of Mary? To place herself between Georgie and Mandy on the bed? We ALL have free will.
Maybe talk to the people (especially public figures) who use Christianity like it's a bar of soap that washes off all the terrible things they do to people the other 6 days and 23 hours of the week. It's not your faith, it's the people you allow to define it.
Luke 23:26-43 ~ 26 As the soldiers led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus. 27 A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him. 28 Jesus turned and said to them, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children. 29 For the time will come when you will say, ‘Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’ 30 Then “‘they will say to the mountains, “Fall on us!” and to the hills, “Cover us!”’ 31 For if people do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?” 32 Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed. 33 When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals-one on his right, the other on his left. 34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots. 35 The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.” 36 The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar 37 and said, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.” 38 There was a written notice above him, which read: this is the king of the jews. 39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!” 40 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
There is this' joke' back home that the biggest hypocrites can be found at the Sunday mass. Mom/dad always opted for the 'just love people for who they are, and whom they love' instead of 'ya'll going to hell' approach and that it's not up to us to condemn and judge people who might be different than us.
As a Christian this is really true. I live in the heart of the Bible Belt in Tennessee and everyone will look at everyone else and judge their sins like they’re perfect. Something similar happened in my family. My cousin got his girlfriend pregnant right before they turned 18. And everyone looked down on them. Even people who’s daughters got pregnant at 16. It’s a sin until it’s your family member seems like it.
i don't really watch young sheldon at all but, i loved the first seasons of the big bang theory. i'm sure this has been said plenty of times before but, the actor who plays this sheldon (iain) does such an amazing job of portraying this character. like i am amazed by how well he executes sheldon's mannerisms, his tone, his attitude. i'm sure jim parsons is proud!
That’s my favorite scene from the show ever! Mary/Missy/Sheldon trying to go through together with the song Losing my ground was perfect, it touched me so deep!
Sheldon was iconic for this. As a Christian I sure as heck hope that my church would never do this to anyone. If they did I would leave in a heartbeat even though I’ve been going there since I was born. Jesus hung out with tax dealers and prostitutes and loved them at himself. And that is what we are called to do no matter what anybody has ever done
I cannot agree more. There will always be those who do more harm than good, but its up to us to choose to uphold what Jesus stood for even if many within congregations refuse to do so.
I really like this scene along with R.M.E song playing in the background. Though I'm not Christian, I felt it how disappointed Mary with everyone inside the church. And Sheldon really did his part here.
I love how Sheldon not only called them out but also corrected the pronunciation of Nebecanezar (yes I know that isn't spelled right) and gave them a mini lesson
As a Christian, I love this scene. There are so many Christians who have read the Bible multiple times and love God, and talk about loving one another, but when someone sins they look at them like a contagious disease. Doesn’t it say that only God can judge? We aren’t supposed to judge, but however love one another. This scene is awesome.
Absolutely glorious. One of the best scenes in the entire show. Many times when I watch, I have to stop and pause because I’m laughing too hard. This time I had to stop when the episode was over because of the sheer power of these scenes.
As a Christian myself, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard about situations like this. I hate how some pastors have the nerve to preach about God is love and has mercy for everyone yet in the same breath they ostracize those who’ve sinned. John 8:7 says, “He who is without sin be the first to throw a stone.” It’s not a good look for the church as a whole to preach about love and forgiveness when they’re doing the exact opposite in the same breath because Georgie impregnated a girl 11 years older. What Georgie did was wrong but I promise you there are far worse things than that. Jesus welcomed everyone regardless of who they were and what they did.
Being self-righteous is great but not when you’re trying to one up other people. I love this. How can we love one another if we see ourselves as “perfection”?
This breaks my heart seeing everyone turn on the cooper's. Would love to see how their relationship with pastor jeff is gon a play out for the rest of the season
@@MichaelTerndrup No happening. We are talking about the Southern Baptists in the early 1990's. The pastor would be rewarded for what he is doing because in their minds, they are to force the family by ostracizing to force Georgie and Mandy to at least get married (never mind that Mandy has a choice in the matter because she is an adult). In fact, the pastor will probably be rewarded for keeping the church on the right and narrow way. In fact, I have had some backwood Methodists from rural Pennsylvania try to get my siblings and me to discuss with my mother that she was living in sin for marrying my step-father. Saw through that right away.
@Christopher Bingham But according to the bible, Pastor Jeffs was not suppose to remarry until his first wife had passed away, even if he did not initiate the divorce. Trust me, I had that verse pounded into me by so called Christians when I was a teen.
Love one another but don't ignore the sin they are committing. You tell them they are committing a sin and that they can not enter Heaven, if not, their blood will be on your head in the day of Judgment.

And this is why people should show Sheldon some respect, he may be an insufferable jerk but he does love his family.
Not saying he doesn't love his family, but he was moved to react by the hypocrisy and contrary logic of the sermon rather than love of family. His didactic nature compelled him to go back in that church and give them what for!!!
He cares more about being right lol😅😅😅
Sheldon is nuanced. There is no other way to put it. He has multiple reasons for doing what he does but in the end, his heart is usually in the right place. That's what matters
@@lehlongwane How do you know that?
@@viksinha5410 I don't. It's an opinion based on the many episodes I have watched of the fictional character named Sheldon and his reaction to various situations.
As a Christian that’s super awesome. A huge problem with Christianity is the hypocrisy of how “sinners” are viewed. Even though we are all wrong.
The sad part is that you see that a lot nowadays, and I'm a Christian myself. Sheldon put the Church on blast.
That's why you should stop going to church! I'm a Christian and I know more than just verses in the bible! I know its secrets too! I love this because Sheldon called the pastor out on how he is creating a judge mental environment for his congregation. I also love that missy knew her mom couldn’t face this alone, so she was there for moral support.
Missy has done lots of nice things for her mother when Mary was in need, but Mary never returned the kindness.
Missy was in the hall saying "Preach, brother".
The pastor didn't do or say anything wrong in this scene. He doesn't have total control of how his congregants behave, they're all adults and they make their own choices.
@@johncisney15while that's true, it's still true what Sheldon said. It may have been aimed at the pastor but the pastor is who the congregation looks up to so in a way, he is kind of at fault for not steering his congregation to following what they preach about which is love one another no matter what.
refusing to hold her hand during prayer was basically her telling god in His house that loving thy neighbor is bullshit

Goes to show the ignorance of the church not even caring about the source material.

If Sheldon had been older and partnered up with Georgie, they might have snapped and decided: if we're going to Hell, this entire congregation is joining us too, in a crazy act of arson.

@@vylon1075 is what they are
As a fellow Christian this scene hit home for me.
There are Christians who are in Hell Fire.
"Once saved always saved" is a lie.
Also, the girl committed a sin which if she didn't ask GOD for mercy for, she would end up in Hell Fire.
All religions have that vice. It's disgusting...
As a Christian, I'm so glad Sheldon called them on this. It is sad they don't recognize the hypocrisy and self-righteousness of their behavior, as if they too aren't sinners redeemed only by grace and without any merit or action to redeem themselves.
Dude I so agree. People like this are the reason people don't wanna be Christian. They don't represent Christ at all
Well said! This church is awful!

This just shows how much sheldon does love his family but let’s also not forget he has a fear of public speaking so this was slowly hard for him to do
I think it's because he was angry, which leads to adrenaline, which leads to temporarily overcoming fear.
maybe he was so pissed he forgot the context and ended up treating it as a one on one conversation with the pastor XD
One can argue he commonly fights publicly with the pastor but in this situation he WAS addressing the entire church he was reprimanding all of them
This doesn't count. The public speaking he is afraid of he often knows it beforehand, like giving a speech at an award ceremony. This is more of a spur of the moment thing. Also this conversation is more directed at Pastor Jeff not the crowd.
My mind : how can young sheldon have better personality than adult sheldon
Also my mind: forgets the fact that he was away from home and didn't meet people who he cared about(Leonard) for much period and as a result he changed back to original himself again
I think when his dad dies that’s got to trigger him to return back to normal as it’ll hit him hard! We’ll see

When the pastor says love one another and Mary and her kids are being ignored, that’s not love. That’s discrimination. Even the Cooper family are dealing with difficult situations they can’t be ignored. They should be included
Many who claim religion are often the most judgmental. All because people sin differently than they do.
Yea, like what happened to the Cooper family. Georgie sexual relationship relationship with women who’s eleven years older than her, for example. Their bout to have a baby.
But it doesn’t mean Georgie and Mandy are prostitute

Everyone has good and bad. Focus on the good.

Also it was just Georgie the rest of the family had nothing to do with what Georgie do
I mean, the foundation stones of religion are shame, fear & indocrination. Not really weird to see that type of behaviour in such a culture. Then again, you follow the rules of the group and they are the kindest people you will ever meet.
@@BrotherHood-xh9sg no that's not how religion works maybe some religion but all religion isn't that.
But also in smaller tribes that still exist. Like in the native american ones or african ones.
Also the church is a hospital to the sinners not a museum for the saints jesus loved all the sinners everybody

"Once saved always saved" is a lie.
There is tendency to hypocrisy in humans, period**, which is why that issue keeps coming up.
One of the main things we see Christ doing in the Gospel is calling out the hypocrisy, particularly, of people who are affluent, powerful and prestigious, especially among the "pious."
He's not tearing down religion by any means... he's not a wrecking crew,
but a doctor.

They care...but change is inconvenient and uncomfortable.
For hundreds of years, scientists looked at clear evidence-- first, the evidence of their eyes and their life experiences, and later, well conducted research....
Clear evidence that a previously held "truth" of science was wrong: the "fact"
that "non human animals don't have emotions/are incapable of 'suffering' "
It seemed to not be true. Anyone who has interacted with a mammal for any length of time can see that they have cognition and emotions, even if those are not identical to ours.
But instead of acknowledging the truth

they turned it into an aggressively defended blind spot, and for decades, they ruined the careers of colleagues who challenged it.

Ha... you're lucky
The people most oblivious to it are the ones most likely to be doing it...
Just because you haven't, doesn't mean they don't exist.
This comment needs to be pinned
Maybe talk to the people (especially public figures) who use Christianity like it's a bar of soap that washes off all the terrible things they do to people the other 6 days and 23 hours of the week. It's not your faith, it's the people you allow to define it.
Where does it say in the bible that Jesus died on a cross?
Luke 23:26-43 ~ 26 As the soldiers led him away, they seized Simon from Cyrene, who was on his way in from the country, and put the cross on him and made him carry it behind Jesus. 27 A large number of people followed him, including women who mourned and wailed for him. 28 Jesus turned and said to them, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me; weep for yourselves and for your children. 29 For the time will come when you will say, ‘Blessed are the childless women, the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed!’ 30 Then
“‘they will say to the mountains, “Fall on us!”
and to the hills, “Cover us!”’
31 For if people do these things when the tree is green, what will happen when it is dry?”
32 Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed.
They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”
36 The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar 37 and said, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.”
38 There was a written notice above him, which read: this is the king of the jews.
39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!”
40 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”
42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”
43 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
There is this' joke' back home that the biggest hypocrites can be found at the Sunday mass. Mom/dad always opted for the 'just love people for who they are, and whom they love' instead of 'ya'll going to hell' approach and that it's not up to us to condemn and judge people who might be different than us.
Sheldon can be mean, but he also cares about his family, which I really admire!

Also, "it's just a saying /everybody says it" doesn't count.
Being self-righteous is great but not when you’re trying to one up other people. I love this. How can we love one another if we see ourselves as “perfection”?
Because those people are seeking artificial social approval based on perception of perfection rather than genuine social approval based on merit.
This breaks my heart seeing everyone turn on the cooper's. Would love to see how their relationship with pastor jeff is gon a play out for the rest of the season

@Christopher Bingham The law of being compassionate.
@Christopher Bingham Pastor can not get a divorce and they can not be married to two women at the same time
