    As someone who used to be Mormon, I was modest because that's what we were taught, BUT knowing that they make modesty rules soley for men and how they think a woman should dress is gross. You should be able to wear short shorts and a tank top without being told that you're giving some random guy "unholy" thoughts, that's not my fault...
    I don't wanna get into church talk, I'm just talking about LDS, but the modesty rules are made by men aimed towards women. It all comes from sexism
    Those modesty rules have caused me so much anxiety and self-hate/self-consciousness and I'm scared about what I wear for no reason, no one should be scared about what they wear especially when it comes to other people's opinions. Dress how you want for yourself, no one needs to shame you.
    Idk I just wanted to say that. We all have our opinions and I respect those of you who are confident enough to not worry about what you're wearing whether it's modest or not.

      As a current Mormon, I know what you are talking about. Imo I think encouraging modesty is okay, but I think it's really about delivery. Like if you want to promote modesty, that's good because some people, religious or not, like wearing clothes like that. But its hypocritical and plain judgmental if you 1) shame others that don't dress like you. Like if someone is wearing a tank top, you have no right to harass them. Or if they have clothes or fabric that covers up more, like individuals who practice Islam, you cant harass them either. And 2) pitch it to girls that their amount of clothes will effect a man's sexual desire. It doesnt Matter what you are wearing, clothes do not give any concent nor do they rationalize unwanted sexual or predatory behavior. Just respect other people's choices. Personally I like dressing modestly, that is how I feel comfortable. And my friends know that. But some of my friends don't dress like me, and that's okay. I respect their decision as they do mine. And that's how it should work, respecting how people live and how they are. As long as it isnt oppressing people. Those are just my thoughts

      It's very natural, reality is unless you're a purely asexual being you're going to notice the attractive features of the opposite and even the same sex, and you're going to make judgements based on how someone looks. Women are sexualized but so are men, the difference is *how* they are sexualized; mainly because of how men view attraction and how women view attraction. Just like when a woman goes on in public and is noticed for her bodily features and her appearance by men, men go out into public and their appearance is noticed by women. If a man is in good shape, properly kempt, well dressed, displaying good hygiene; you notice. When a woman is in good shape, well dressed, ect ect you notice.

    • @WhitneyDahlin
      @WhitneyDahlin 4 роки тому +35

      Yeah I agree. I feel like these women upset we're talking about modesty and calling us judgemental for just making a personal style decision would throw a massive hissy fit if we were telling them they can't dress how they want to. The hypocrisy is just so blatant and disgusting in so many of these comments. Women tearing down other women just because we choose to dress in a way they personally don't dress. Abby has never once said anything against anyone who chooses to not dress modestly but these women in the comments are acting like she's trying to create legislation to force everyone to dress a certain way xD I think it's because they know deep down the only reason they dress immodestly is because they are desperate for attention and feel called out by other women going out of their way to not call attention to their body. If this isn't the case then why do they care how Abby or anyone else chooses to dress? Why go out of their way to comment on a video and a channel that isn't for them? Abby has never said this of course it's just my personal opinion.

      Whitney Dahlin why go out of the way to call other women “desperate for attention”? Jeez I dress modestly but I never think others who don’t are “desperate for attention”. Tbh she has some good tips for people who want to dress modestly. Which is great! I think if she just did that she wouldn’t be getting all of this hate. However, I think she should preface the video by saying it is up to you on wether you would like to dress modestly, and if you don’t want to that’s ok and doesn’t make you any less of a woman. Another issue i have is her list of reasons why you should dress modestly. She should say it makes you more comfortable and confident rather than pleasing men. I think she still would get hate on this video even if she did follow these ideas, but there would be less of it.

    • @Alexander-qv4mw
      @Alexander-qv4mw 4 роки тому +15

      I know you were talking to her but I'm going to share my thoughts
      If you're talking about the Muslim women in middle east who wear the burka, then I think they are the perfect opposite of the western world.
      Middle eastern women cover up TOO MUCH while Western women cover up TOO LITTLE. The Burka is bad. The bikini is bad. Both are extremes and should be avoided.
      Short shorts of the west literally sexualizes women while the burka of the middle east covers women too much and unecessarily.
      *coming from a conservative christian*

    • @amania1795
      @amania1795 4 роки тому +9

      ok I think you make a really good point. I wanted to add that the modesty of Muslim women in the Middle East is really diverse. You’ll find some women to cover literally everything except their eyes, and some who cover everything except their hands and face, and some who wear western clothing but still have a scarf on their head. I think I can agree with the idea that clothing like short shorts and bikinis has sexualized women. While I’m all for the freedom of choosing clothing, I think it can have big effects on the society. This is coming from a Muslim

      If you feel guilty listening to her content, that's a feeling that's originating within yourself because you, yourself, believe that you are doing something wrong. Abby is not making you feel that way. She is not shaming anyone.

      If you feel attacked that’s not the fault of the woman in this video talking about the value of modesty for those who wish to follow that advice and giving women tips on how to dress modestly.

    nobody should have to cover up more so other people don’t get the ‘wrong impression’ or so people don’t judge based off of body and not personality. if someone judges a person solely based off of the fact that they show more of their body, that’s wrong of THEM. it’s 2020. anybody should be able to go out feeling comfortable with their body and not feeling like people are only paying attention to the fact that they’re showing more of their body. nobody needs to change themselves or the way they dress, people need to change the way they react to it. people need to learn how to control themselves and learn that no matter how much of someone’s body is shown, you have no right to judge them based off of it.

The people coming here to be offended shouldn't be watching this video in the first place. She is largely speaking to people that have the same standard for themselves and want advice. The advice is NOT being given to every woman in the country. Go by your own definition of modesty and dont go looking to people for advice who clearly have a different stance than you.

So that’s allowed, but this girl who wants to take this advice *CANNOT?* That’s complete hypocrisy, and wrong. Double standards are not okay. Can’t say yes on one, no one the other. The proportion of likes and dislikes of this video says a lot about the world we are living in today in 2020, where people are basically constantly getting closer to normalizing nudity. I've even seen people refusing to admit that wearing bikini is the same as wearing underwear, citing the cultural difference and stuff, which to me doesn't even make any sense.
    Although I'm neither a woman or jewish, keep up the good work! It's a relief seeing more and more conservative and religious people speaking up.

  • @TheKFish
    @TheKFish 4 роки тому +26

    I’m not judging anyone who dressed more “modest” but when you said to cover up so men don’t objectify you is just not the message little girls should be getting. Girls should grow up allowed to wear whatever they want that they feel comfortable in and if that means they wanna look hot and wear short shorts and a sports bra out then they should do that and not have to be told boys will be boys when they get cat called or objectified. So of course women can dress modest that’s great for them but we shouldn’t hold girls to this double standard. And if this isn’t a double standard to you then can you please address how you think men should dress more modest so they are just assumed to want a short term relationship for sex??

    • @xHannibal
      @xHannibal 4 роки тому +1

      The whole concept of wanting to look “hot” is about sexuality. A lot of women sexualize themselves intentionally and then ask not to be objectified. Personally the way I see it is people can wear whatever they want and nobody can or should try to force them not to. But dressing modestly is classy, dressing immodestly is not. If you want to attract classy people into your life you won’t find them by being unclassy. It’s the same sort of reason that you don’t go to a club to find the love of your life Romeo. Unless you do haha

    • @TheKFish
      @TheKFish 4 роки тому +1

      Hannibal I understand where your coming from and honestly mostly agree accept women dressing hot then getting objectified is the whole issue like men can wear what ever they want and be fine but as soon as a woman shows some skin then she’s just a piece of ass or whatever this is a horrible double standard bc no one is “asking for it” based on how they dress.

Namely, I don't think it's necessary for anyone to post every little feeling they have on social media for the world to see. I have a lot of girlfriends that do this. They will post something vague about something someone did that upset them, and the rest of us are expected to just show sympathy for them without having all the facts. A lot of people, including myself, struggle a lot with trying to define what kind of clothing is modest. I have found it extremely helpful to look at the dress code for royal women (Kate Middleton). This woman is expected to dress modestly, and she pulls it off very well. The rules she is expected to follow I find easy to emulate, I don’t think it is oppressive at all.

I have subscribed to your channel and I just want to give you some advice. Part of the reason why a lot of people don’t like you is because of your ads. People don’t like to spammed. I think that if you pull back on the advertising you would have a lot more success in growing you base. Just let people come to you and your channel will organically grow.

    Thank you for this important subject. Women these days are walking around practically naked....then they wonder why their member cheat....and what about kids at the beach? They don't need to see a bare body with strings covering parts. Confidence is more than needing the sexual attention. We as a society need to encourage women feeling great and be more ambitious, not just sexual. Its small mind thinking...which is the problem w what's popular. Empowering women is more than sexuality.

While I think some of these comments are attacking, most are more jokes/trolling and mostly respectful opinions. Although I get what you’re saying. And for me personally, the issue I have with this video are not the tips on modesty, they’re fine, but the reasons. All of them are to please men. Which is just dumb, dress modestly for you, but not for men. This entire mentality is feeding into the idea that women are “asking for” sexual harassment and do every little thing to please men.

  • @Animeshelly0120
    @Animeshelly0120 4 роки тому +1

    every comment on here is talking about her controlling what we should wear when she’s literally saying we have different options for modest clothing. she literally said short shorts that cover your butt cheeks are fine. if that’s too modest for you then idk what to tell you, but no one wants to see your butt cheeks. she’s literally saying to embrace inner beauty and have people like you for your personality rather than just your body. that if you are looking for a man-she didn’t say in order to attract a man-she said if you are making your own decision to find yourself a man, then take into consideration how he views you. she made good points about how wearing more “sexy” clothing will make him view you as a short term fling rather than a long lasting relationship. I don’t understand why there’s backlash about that. it’s literally science that men are more visual while women are more emotional beings. if you’re trying to find a husband, finding a man who only wants you for your body isn’t the right choice. I hate to make this about finding a man when it’s really about you showing your best self, but you need to find a man who will respect you and love you for you. not your body. am I saying that it’s not possible? no. a man can definitely love you and your body, but if he loves your body first, he’s not in this with the right intentions or mindset and you deserve better than that.

    • @bellem4310
      @bellem4310 4 роки тому

      The whole “men are visual creatures” is bullshit. Just because some men are douches and see women as objects just because they wear stuff that shows more skin, is not our problem. And we shouldn’t have to fix this by dressing modestly, cause it’s not our fault. It’s ok to dress modestly if it’s for you and because you like it, but she shouldn’t feed into the idea that women need to constantly be pleasing men.

      Comfort is not the ultimate underlying principle of the universe. Loving people is. That means thinking about how our words and actions affect other people. It's not always easy, but it's always worth it. How can acting loving and caring about others be wrong?

    The reason I dont dress modestly is because I hate feeling like theres 90% of fabric on my body. And I realized that instead of blaming women for being sexualised, catcalled etc, we need to be blaming men. We are not the problem. The sick perverts are. Our breasts are NOT sexual objects. The fact that you are a woman and basically calling yourself a sexual object breaks my heart. God will love me whether I dress modest or not♡

      My body has a hard time regulating temperature bc of an autoimmune disorder, and in the summertime where I live it can be nearly 100 degrees for months. I dress as close to naked as is socially acceptable bc the heat makes me lightheaded (lol). I’ve been judged by Christians for this, even my close friends. Just for wearing a cute tank top and shorts (which were quite short but whatever). My point is, not everyone is dressing “immodestly” bc they don’t respect their bodies-for many of us, it’s bc we do 💕

      They aren’t though. Breasts are secondary sex characteristics, meaning they’re there to so you can tell men from women, and they’re primary function is not for the making of children. Breasts primary function is to feed babies. However, because of the misogynistic nature of the world, breasts have become overly sexualized to the point where they have become something they were never meant to be. I.e people, like this woman, believing they need to be covered up because they’ll make people, I.e men, feel sexual feelings. And quite frankly, that’s sad, because that’s not what breasts are for.
