@@ArmageddonEvil yep shove that battle pass atop of the monthly subscription. But again this is new Era for blizz just sugar coded by this new expac that for some reason everyone is now taking their time playing and reading the quest text when it has been a thing since 2004.

They are in maximizing profits so they can get out like bandits before the *End of the World.* A la, Real life world-ending calamity called WW3.
Its the same old shit. put the stock on rotation,
force stockpile points before you miss the opportunity to get that real rare mount or whatever

Guild Wars 2, not sure about gem shop but f2p version is more of trial, you have access to 1-80, most if not all of base game but you are limited with trading, inventory, maybe gem shop too. Daily login rewards also aren't possible until you buy one of expansion or have old account that paid for base game before expansion release.
I won't judge the end product until it hits the live servers but from what they've shown in the previews the activities that may or may not be in and they sound easy enough. Even if it's just an easy reason to get on and do all the monthly stuff in a week, I'll be fine with it. Even if stuff rotates in and out, it'll end up coming back eventually so I don't mind as much.
Obviously, this is just a way for them to flood the store with items and not have people complain about not being able to get it by "playing the game" but they will always put out way more store items than you could ever earn.
It's a trap.
it'll ALWAYS make sense to go f2p because of the amount of potential players you can retain. And WoW is already a seasonal game with the sub ergo there's no dmg in players playing a patch and then quitting til the next, except the barrier of entry of the sub is no longer there. Like just think of all of our generation when we were 12-15 and we just couldn't play the game because dad was like "wtf son a monthly fee for a game!?". All those players will at least try the game out if they can access it on their own.
Time and time again Riot has proven the f2p model with cosmetics and bs monetization is absolutely effective. It only gets bad if you don't have that many players which is a problem WoW's had for years anyway. If DF succeeds and they retain at least like some 8M subs just to say a number I don't think all of those players would quit because the game goes F2P lol. Also we already have the bloody WoW token the game is a mobile f2p gacha already so what could you possibly lose with that move.
Its bad, its just a battle pass of sorts. A low cost lazy way of sub retention without any meaningful content. There is stuff in the TP system that requires you to remain active for six to twelve months to obtain. Basically "the sub for a year get this mount" gimmick wow has always used.
Bold of anyone to assume that accessing this new battle pass will be covered by their monthly sub. How short people's memories are.
If the next expansion after Dragonflight is as good, then I might play it.

its good because you can get store mounts for essentially free now with this but its also bad because FOMO. They have so many things on offer there to chose from but you can only get 1000 of this new currency per month at max and since the items available change every month you will be missing out on most of the stuff (one store mount for instance costs 900) and it may pass by month for an items you want become available again. Plus it makes you want to keep being subscribed even if you for whatever reason can't play that month. A bit shady if you ask me. But then again so is the every battle pass in almost any game that has one so idk
Fomo isnt always bad... It becomes bad when you use it to milk people.
In this case it is just a bonus thing to get for free, everything comes back in time and you can at least save one! Might be good too increases that to 3 tbh.
The wow token issue of gold to monetary value is a slippery slope. I think they are good for the game because services that do the same thing will exist regardless of if Blizzard wants it there or not. It is safer and more stable to go through Blizzard than risk getting burned or banned. It isn't great, but it is better than the alternative
By that logic they should allow botting and cheating and even implement systems for everyone to do so. This whole 'people are gonna do it anyways' argument is beyond idiotic because you're conveniently leaving something out. When people are using illegal gold site these things are harder to find and access and harder still to find ones that are safe. Fewer people will use them because of that and the risk of banning. When you take those 'services' and instead of clamping down you actively advertise them and make them an easy to access, legal feature you bring infinitely more people into it. Thinking that majority of people paying for gold instead of engaging in the economy in game is better than the alternative of some few people using bots and gold sites and (in a world where Blizzard actually paid their GM's to do their jobs) got banned for it, even if as little as a quarter of the time, is pure fucking idiocy so dense you could stick it in your veins.
funfact, chris metzen return. and by god i hope he takes over wow classic control and makes a classic +. say what u wnat, retail will be a dead horse either way. and DF doin fine for the reaining players, not for returning ones. so ye, the future lies in classic, not in retail

my main gripe with this is having the stock on a rotation. imo they should just be available all the time.
On the surface, the fact that they have it on a monthly rotation is clearly an attempt to further incentivize people to maintain a sub and pick away at extra stuff casually when there's no other reason to log in. That said, WoW is still a product and I'm ok with this level of engagement incentive, as it doesn't feel particularly gross.
Unless they add new stuff to this system some people will no life each item rotation until they collect everything and depending on how often stuff rotates even those play at their own pace will get there what will they do once they get everything they wanted and extra stuff? It will just be there for players who don’t have it and a useless currency sitting in bags until the day is ever more cosmetic added that wasn’t just phased out from the shop or whatever.
Seems a bit like the story journal in ffxiv but with many more ways to earn stuff
everything they are doing is like two steps behind FFXIV, with an added extra but nothign that stand apart from its competition, it s a bit sad. I will say this, if i wanted FFXIV elements in a game i would go play FFXIV again as a matter of fact i think i will now that the novelty of DF has worn off.

Wrong a battle pass on top of your subscribtion. Fucking time they give us more for it then game time.
This system will succeed or fail based on the quality and quantity of the items. This means Blizzard will have to divest resources away from store mounts. This means it will fail.
So a battle pass? Which seems to have fomo built in and seemingly tied to monthly sub, hmmm. All well and good that this is being viewed as a bucket blizzard can put things in but doesn't this also give blizzard the excuse to massively expand the store? Can't really complain about store items anymore when you can log in every month and check the items you want are up, not to mention you can always grind for the store items you want!.
Just another system to get players to log in, which has no real substance. Recycling content to give you a chance at an item others bought.
Im actually glad they added the wow tolen. I havent see a single spammy account-hacking, annoying gold seller on my server since then
