This imbedded star bowl is just gorgeous, one of the favorite pieces I have seen so far! I am not a turner, but I do a lot of other types of crafting, and love to support other crafters. I watch a couple of other turners, and you are by far my favorite one. My uncles all were fine woodworkers, my dad tried, but didn't quite have the artistic eye. Still, I love the pieces he made that I still have. You are gifted, and you use your gifts, and I am sure your family and friends love your work and treasure what you make. Those thumbs-downers are showing their lack of kindness and a whole lot of jealousy. The trolls (such a good name for them) like to hit anyone they are subscribed to. I think you've "made it big" on youtube when you get your own trolls. Just watch your subscriber numbers rise! Keep turning, and know us thumb-uppers really appreciate what you do. Gratefuly, Jean.
WOW thank you for such a nice compliment. I am honored that you think so highly of my turnings and that you favor me over others but honestly we all have different things to offer. I say take the best from each and we all become better at what we do.
Beautiful work! Capt. Eddie is an inspiration, as you are. So if it crosses your mind, say it!!! You gave it all away when you said " You learn by doing and remembering". We are living in a wonderful time., where we have videos, like yours and all the others and sometimes, they come and teach us, like Jimmy Clewes. You are doing a good service for the whole community. This is how we grow and you are a good teacher and wood turner! Thank you for all your efforts on our behalf.Glad I know you!!! John...
I have no idea who would give you a thumbs down after a project like that! Everytime I see your videos, I get inspired to look at wood a little differently. I truly enjoy your informative and entertaining videos! You are the man!
What a beautiful piece. Thanks to you, Stephen Ogle, Tim Yoder, SG Art Turning, to name a few, I have been inspired to try my hand at turning wood. I am obsessed! Been doing it for less than 2 months and realize I have a lot to learn. I bought a cheap central machinery lathe and broke the tool rest. Not sure how much of it was because of the cheap cast and how much of it was my inexperience and being too aggressive. I took that lathe back and am looking at a Laguna revo 1836 or a Nova galaxy 1644 dvr. They are both around the $2400 range and my local dealer who sells both recommends the Nova. Anyways I love your videos. They are a source of ideas, knowledge and entertainment for this Yankee. I have learned so much from you and look forward to learning more. God bless my brother... and the haters are going to hate cause they can't do...
WOW......What an awesome turning Al...I absolutely enjoy all of your video shows Al...! Always inspired by your turnings... I've never given you a thumbs down, we will leave the thumbs down for the clowns that don't appreciate you and what you do...! An absolutely beautiful stunning bowl...! May you and your loved ones have a great safe day...!
Just catching up with your teaching and am again very much pleased with your sharing of time and knowledge to inspire and challenge our selves. Thank you n stay safe.
Al, the world is full of petty, small minded people, with too much time on their hands, bitter hearts and no appreciation for the generosity of people like you, who are willing to share their talent with the world! No matter how creative you are, their will always be that jealous destructive, mean spiritedness from those with nothing but spite and hate to offer in return! Another beautiful piece and inspiration for all who appreciate the time and effort you put in to make these brilliant videos.
Awesome piece Al . If those A holes are giving you a thumbs down on any of your vids. They don't have a clue about wood turning . So they're opinion doesn't matter . Great job take care my friend .
Thank you very much my friend. I have a funny feeling most of them are wood turners who just disagree with my methods and feel I am breaking the rules.
Hi Al watched you makethe star segmented bowl enjoyed it very much I watched it on Roku internet TV. had look you up on you tube to comment I give you a thumbs up all daylongL D Brandon
Great Video, I like how you do these things. A very good way to use small peace's of wood. I like seeing your Grandson in the shop. Keep Turning and be safe. Thanks
Thank you my friend. I like having him in the shop as well. He wants another Star Wars Character so that might be coming soon LOL See you next time. Take care
Al I think what you are doing is great and does influence my turning as does all the others. the more I can pick up from every one the better I can be. I have been collecting wood and setting it out to dry this spring so that I shall have lots to do come winter. maple cherry apple cottonwood Pine spruce and fir and any other tree I can find that will yield to my chain saw. Keep turning see yo in the fall.
Great piece AL. Another thing these folks do is Ask if the price is negotiable even when they are only asking a question. Don't let them get to you, they obviously aren't watching to learn anything.
Thank you my friend. I must admit I don't get much negotiating on my pieces in fact I don't get many requests for prices LOL. I think people are afraid to ask LOL
Thank you my friend for watching. Sorry I was considering not posting this one because I didn't hit the record button. missed the intro and the making of the star LOLTake care
That is a beautiful bowl Al, so creative :) so much work and time that went in to making it really shows in the finished piece! Al, don't give these trolls the satisfaction of a mention, they are no better than stagnant pond life, if they know they are getting your attention they will do it more, ignore them and they will get bored and go away!
Thanks my friend. Well I do have a suspicion on whom some might be and it's sad. I know some get my notification when I upload a video seeing I have seen a Thumbs down before they could even watch the video so I know it's jealousy.
I really like the look you have with this piece, Al. A star within a star, what a concept! I also like how the tips of the outer star appear "bent." I guess it's just the curvature, but it adds a little something, for me. Great job!
WOW, amazing bowl, my friend. This would be a great design for a gift for a quilter. I quilt as well, and have been thinking about trying to put some quilt designs into a wood turning.
I was holding my breath when you started on those tips. Thought for sure they would chip off. Great looking piece. I've got to try your star construction for a segmented bowl. Thanks.
Al your are a true artist. The jerks who give you a thumbs down get off doing that. ignore them . They are people like that in every group, no matter what the subject is. They are just jealous. Its sad there are people like that in this world. Love your videos. I have been turning now for around 8 months and doing pretty darn good if I must say so. watched your other videos on making a star bowl. working on that right now. keep them coming. Your so talented in every thing you do, from turning bowls to coming up with new ideas and making your own tools etc..
Thank you very much my friend for watching and commenting It's funny you bring that up. It really does not bother me that much. We all know there is jealousy and haters. We just know that will always be the majority of people who enjoy it. Take care
awesome work my friend, excellent piece...! Well there Really are some sad people out there, if they get a kick out of giving thumbs down then I'm sure their living sad lives...! Cheers mate...
Very decorative piece Al. I didn’t understand what you were doing initially, we didn’t get a “Hello my friends” or the usual chat and explanation at the beginning. You do give a lot of useful information on your videos. I’m learning a lot from you. Also I have to say, you come across as a very happy carefree guy, don’t let the thumbs downers bother you.
Thank you very much my friend. I am glad to see you liked it. I think this video just took off from the making of the star that is why I didn't have my usual "Hello my friends" LOL Take care
You are too taken by haters :) the important thing is never the fact that you got thumbs down, but the ratio between the ups and downs! and that is because haters are always gonna hate, no matter what. Stunning work again I don’t know how some people can give you a thumbs down for a piece like that I would be delighted if I turned it Cheers from scotland 👌👌
People who can give a thumbs down so easy are depressed.....I for one really like your saying " hello my friends " it is uplifting and you are always smiling and happy. Don't let them make you down there are other of us that really like to watch and learn from you. I even learn when you show us your mess ups. We all have them some just hide theirs. well what can i say you did it again lovely piece .as for the tumbes downers got nothing better to do i think it just goes with you tube same as anything you always get that majority. ha just take it on the chin and keep the videos coming all the best
al dont let the naysayer get to you. they have mental issues, or they havent a clue what talent you really have. as usual a great piece my friend. oh im going to ny for the summer, when i get back im going to cut some sweet gum, and you can have some of it
fabulas more top shots please and I see you make some adjustment to your lathe when turning an explanation would be nice. I don't turn but watch all your videos absolutely fascinating. keep turning and a merry christmas
Hi Al, I have been very busy these last few months reorganising my garden, and helping getting the village community orchard up and running , hopefully now I'm getting on top of things a new video will be soon be posted , Thanks for the continued support mate it really is appreciated! Bram
Awesome videos! You're always so upbeat and friendly and that alone is inspiring. Ignore those who give thumbs down; they probably aren't even turners or have any idea what you're doing in your videos. Keep up the great work! You're pieces are gorgeous!! Kimberly
Cap'n Eddie, Mike Waldt, Carl Jacobson. Need to add Al Furtado! (You have over 10,000 subscribers now.) I thought the ash pieces you wedged in would be too much but after you finished it, some of the grain seemed to be in line with the center. All in all, one more beautiful piece - maybe the best yet.
Thank you my friend for watching. I try not to let it bother me and generally it doesn't except when I think it comes from people I think I know LOLTake care
Hi Al Nice work as always! I would like to see you make a video where you are actually measuring & cutting your segments! Do you already have one - what is it named so I can find it? Great video Al, and that piece looks superb my friend, love the design, and the method you use to create it. Don't pay any attention to the thumbs downers mate, they just need to get a life, they haven't even got the b@££$ to comment, as that would give their name away :) Keep doing what you do...the way that you do it. Take care Mike
Hi Al, I'm laughing about the thumbs downers! LOL You have 144 thumbs up to be VERY proud of and only 3 thumbs downers who must be in the Twilight Zone! LOL Keep up doing what you're doing and thanks for just being YOU! You get BIG "Star" for this video! Tom
Hi Al, been making some things you show. And they have turned out great. Thank you. Your the best and explain everything. But I've only been doing it for a little over 2 years. I got a few questions, if you remember on this star bowl. What's the diameter of the inside star, and also the outside star? Also, thick are the boards you started out with for the two stars. My boards are only 3/4 in thick after planeing them. Can I lanenate 2 boards together so I have thick boards or will that be real noticable. I Appreciate it very much if you could reply. And keep up the awesome videos coming. Bob Merry Christmas to you and yours
Thank you. I am sorry I didn't mention the thickness of the outside star. The inner star was 5/8" thick and the outer star was about 1 1/4" thickness that allowed for a slightly deeper profile. As fas as gluing 2 borads together that might actually give you quite an interesting look. It might look like a gradiant especially if using 2 different species of wood. I would stay away from same type of wood as grain will never match and will look like it was not planned. This is just my take on it . Good luck. Merry Christmas my friend.
Thank you my friend for watching and your honesty. I do too that is why I get excited over rotten pieces of wood LOL. if you haven't seen this one I think you'll like it. ua-cam.com/video/lrI2THV5SHkT/v-deo.htmlake care
Yes. That piece was/is amazing. I believe the appeal, to me, is that nature contributed significantly to the look of the piece, making it more unique than any turner could alone. I've been working with some spalted, buggy birch logs I was given. I've managed to turn 3 lamps so far. Thanks for you videos. You are one of my go to content creators on UA-cam.
Al, I think there are about 10 Trolls that must watch turning videos just to click the "Thumbs Down " button. We see their bs on every video from every You Tube turner. Pay them no mind, , they are just negative people. Feel sorry for them.
Thank you very much my friend. Well I know there are a few that never fail to come to my channel so they are subscribers that get notifications on Email of my uploads some even have a guilt conscious LOL

Hi Al
Nice work as always!
I would like to see you make a video where you are actually measuring & cutting your segments!
Do you already have one - what is it named so I can find it?
Or - are you aware of another turner that shows his/her segment cutting that you would recommend?
Or - if anyone else that reads this comment is aware of a good segmenting video that I could watch - please chime in and give me some guidance!

Hi Denis, thanks for watching. I actually go over this in this series ua-cam.com/video/B05Drmdh2Rg/v-deo.html

Thumbs up!!!
Clark
Hi Al how did you make the star? you deserve a big thumbs up
Thanks for watching Lawrence. I do have a video or 2 on making a star. ua-cam.com/video/B05Drmdh2Rg/v-deo.html
Great video Al, and that piece looks superb my friend, love the design, and the method you use to create it. Don't pay any attention to the thumbs downers mate, they just need to get a life, they haven't even got the b@££$ to comment, as that would give their name away :)
Keep doing what you do...the way that you do it.
Take care
Mike
Thank you my friend for watching. Well Mike you always know what to say to make me feel better. Thanks againTake care
Hi Al,
I'm laughing about the thumbs downers! LOL
You have 144 thumbs up to be VERY proud of and only 3 thumbs downers who must be in the Twilight Zone! LOL
Keep up doing what you're doing and thanks for just being YOU!
You get BIG "Star" for this video!
Tom
Thank you very much my friend. I am glad you liked that LOL
Now I see 242 thumbs up and 4 down. Ignore the idiots and look at all the thumbs up. Your channel and its content is epic!
Thank you my friend for watching. and the nice compliment That's one way to look at it LOL. Take care
Thank you so very much Al. I sure appreciate you reply. I saw that it was 4yrs ago and still you reply. Your the best! Merry Christmas to you!
👍👍👍
Thank you my friend for watching.Take care
A big part of wood turning happens before the lathe starts turning.
Very nice piece. No doubt about it. But...and I say this with all due respect, I'm partial to the buggy, twisted, rotting, gnarly pieces.
I think that was a great video who on earth would want to give that a thumb,s down ,keep them coming .
TWO THUMBS UP!
Thank you my friend I knew I could count on you
They are jackasses! It's a Beautiful piece!

Thank you my friend. Well now when I don't see the Thumbs Downs I feel deprived LOL
