Awesome video! That interior cabin filter looks like it'll cause quite a few cuss words to come rolling out my mount when I get to doing that one. The others look super easy. By the way, thanks for showing what all you put into your maintenance log. I plan on doing my own maintenance to this vehicle to help keep our cost of ownership down, but don't want the dealer to give me any grief when bringing it in for warranty work.
Durbin, you are one seriously squared away Marine. Thank you for including the bit on the Pass Down Book and how you keep your logs. Seriously good shit, Sir.
I had to trade in my wife's BMW because it was too "basic" for her. She got a new W205 yesterday so time to learn how to unsnap MB plastic stuff now. Will be tuning in. Thank you!
In all honestly, your wife definitely made a good choice. The C class is by far Mercedes most reliable model, and is overall a fantastic car! It may seem like the maintenance is a lot of work, but compared to other cars (even regular American cars) they are not bad at all!
Next time you replace the filter, spray a little AC evaporator coil spray on the evaporator coil (looks like a mini radiator) back in there and let it sit/dry, then install the new filters. That spray will help kill any bacteria or mold (or what-not) that has found its way onto the coil. A can of it is only like $8-10 and is probably good for 2 jobs.
Glad I found your channel!! My daughter just purchased a 2015 c300. She was worried about the high maintenance cost. So these videos will help me to help her save a lil money. Thanks for sharing the notes on your car, definitely will be doing that with hers. Thank you for the help!
Should be okay the 50k mile service is the priciest one transmission fluid change etc but I'm at 69k miles and she still trucking along I'm utterly shocked by how good it's been!
This was great....but after watching you do this with only one hand while filming, I realize you are super human and I think I'll just pay MB the $200 to change the filters. Keep the great videos coming!!
If you have the MANN cabin filter the little flap doesn't go to the right but to the top for a correct install. (as shown in the instructions that come with the filter)
When I purchased my new (used)17 c300, I got rid of the ok condition runflat tires and put some awesome riding goodyear comfort drives on them. 2 studs were way over torqued. I could not get it off with my impact gun. I needed a 3 foot breaker bar to take them off! It was insane! All the other studs were also way over torqued but my gun was able to get them off. Amazing how even a dealership with supposed certified techs are unable to follow proper torque specs.
Saved me a pointless B service 😂. Any particular reason why you do not remove the carpet lining? States to remove in the directions I received with mine. Good job with the records too. I do something similar with my iPad.
Hello, thank you so much for this video. Just for others: there is a big plastic hook behind the cover, for the cabin filter (inside). In the video, this hook is already broken. Mine was not, and it was very less easy to remove this cover. So be careful! I don’t have broken the hook but because of pulling without understanding, the plastic is now white at its base. So it will break at next change I suppose 😄 Also, the filter in the engine bay was the good part (Mann-filter) but the inside one was not (compatible but not the same). I don’t know who is the OEM for this one, there is no brand printed on the MB original filter, it seem to be an original part from MB, not from an OEM.
Hey great vid but you put the cabin filter the wrong way. The foam part of the filter should be up, not sideways, its in the mann filter instructions inside the box. Thats why the old filter was crumpled, it was also sideways. But keep up the good work and sharing content!
No. For the Mann filter he definitely has it wrong. He could at least make a comment. I had to do it twice because of him. That's also why he was struggling to put the clip back in. He had it the wrong way.
Thank you so much for making this video, I have watched many other ones, and yours is the best! I had good laughs, too, during your great illustration 😂
Later in the video you step through your process for taking notes for vehicle history. Totally agree, but noticed one entry in particular “tires rotated front to back”. Your front and rear tires the same size? Our OEM tires are not so not able to rotate. Semper Fi!
Yes, I did rotate the tires front to back. The minimal offset on this set did not affect anything and no rubbing occurred. The tire shop will recommend a left to right rotate. I did it once, front to back and never decided to do it again.
The Mann cabin air filter is smaller than the original filter from Benz. The Mann filter has a white foam barrier but the original is just a bigger filter rather than having the foam part.
Great video! Had no idea there was another filter for the cabin. We recently purchased a 2019 Benz C300 Base, 2.0 Turbo engine. I bought a new filter for engine, went to install and found that unlike in your video you show the engine air filter on passenger mine is on driver's side...in your video title it says Mercedes C300 W205...ok where do I find this w number.... I'm assuming your model is a 4matic whereas mine is a base model ... will VIN tell this technical information. any information will help thx
W205 is the platform number for C series from 2015-2022. C series from 2011-2014 was the W204, etc. the D series from the 80’s was a W123. It’s just another designation. Commonly used in Europe. Makes the video more searchable.
But he puts the filter in the wrong way....and doesn't even bother to make a comment in the video description or annotation about it...If someone follows this video they'll do it wrong.
@@TheDurbinCompound I think it's made wrong way. Ribs are horizontally and squeezed by bottom cap so they should be vertically because the spoon is for squeezing not a ribs, then filter looks good after pulling off.. If you want it's easier to take carpet off first then filter comes oudside/inside easily. Have w205 and made this few days ago too after this video and video how to take off carpet from yt. And you don't need to squeeze and smash this filter. Really it's not ok. 😃
@@TheDurbinCompound It would be easier if you put it in the right way...old video I know but sheesh. Hilarious you go on for a whole minute about how important it is to do it right too. lmao.
Those kickpanel cabin filters suck! Lol On some kits they give you a new cover. We just reuse the old cover cause the new one never fits right and never locks in.
@TheDurbinCompound hello i have a question, about secondary, in cabin air filter. I think it's installed wrong, but im not sure 100%. The ribs should be placed vertically not horizontally in w205 I think. When in my w205 i was changing this filter it was some days ago I've put it vertically. (This is better for me because if they are horizontally and you push it like on video with the cover of the filter you will smash the ribs so first rib will be too close to the next rib and again and again and again... which makes airflow worse I think.) If you put ribs vertically they will not be smashed because of the spoon on the top of the filter. When you push this filter to close bottom cover and spoon is to the top, then you smash and squeeze spoon because it's softer then ribs placed vertically. Squeezing ribs is not correct I think. :P Tell me please because I don't know who's wrong. You dude or me. But one of us made it wrong for sure but I Hope it's you. :D (dont blame me!) Please check this because I don't want to have air filter placed wrong way in my car to the end of it's life. Hahaha 😂
I have a 2013 MB C350 4-matic. I searched sites but I cannot find the filter from the blower motor. cabin filters are available but no parts store knows of a filter at the blower motor. Can you help me search for one online?
Question...with the evap issues you had the dealer fix..what were the symptoms of the bad charcoal canister or etc? Smell of gas in the cabin area while driving?
No. Evap was simply a check engine light. Now if you’re smelling gas in the cabin at idle, you have a fuel line problem. I literally just went through this. The gas was “sweating” at the connections under the hood. Behind the engine, there is a fuel test port before the fuel line goes into the high pressure pump. I had the dealer replace the connectors for around $300. Parts included ($75). From what I could tell, the only way I would’ve been able to do it was being able to stand under the car. I couldn’t get to them from the top.
TheDurbinCompound oh man thank you ! Lol ...it had a few mechanics stumped because one minute you smell it and then the next minute you don’t ..also it seems to be only during cold weather I smell it
I got you! It literally doesn’t leak, it just kind of sweats like I said. From years of working on jets I know what to look for.
