I saw Dodge lettering on the hood AND in the grille. Is the hood from a '70, or were the letters added on? The 1971 Challenger, along with the 'Cuda, was Chrysler's last convertible until 1982. Dodge built 2165 Challenger convertibles in '71.
Dodge made 1971 Dodge Challenger convertibles, but not in formal RT form. You could still order a 340 and 383 convertible but it would have the JH serial number rather then the JS (RT serial number). The stripes were factory and the same as the 1971 RT stripes, but minus the RT decal on the quarter panels. I also owned a 71 Challenger convertible 383 automatic, hemi orange with the same stripe while I was still in college.
paharamia2009 The 1971 Dodge Challenger convertible was also the Indy 500 Pace Car for the race that year. The cars were all hemi-orange in color, but were mostly 318 cars. A few 340 and 383 pace cars were built.
Bob Burke Bob, out of curiosity, the 71 challenger convertible I mentioned that I owned in the above post was hemi orange, an automatic trans on the console with disc brakes and an RT scooped hood. I changed the original 383 and put in a small block 340, took off a flat hood and added the RT hood. In the dash plate serial number code would have read: JH27N1B, indicating a 383 car (N= 383 & H=340) It would be hoot if you had my old car. Additionally, if it is, it may be a pace car replica. The pace cars came in hemi orange w flat hoods and hood pins. You should check
That car is absolutely gorgeous! Glad to see it gets driven and not just some trailer queen!!

Nice car Matt. Great to see the love between you and your father. Not everyone can say that. Moparleo
Yep, Butterscotch! I had a '71 Dodge Charger in the same color.

I have a 1971 Dodge Challenger convertible also. It is hemi-orange with a 340. Not an RT but somebody stuck RT emblems on it at one time.
