Mom had a 70 Challenger new in November of 1969 in CALIFORNIA SoCal 😊 She now has a 2010 R/T Challenger bought new in Inferno Red black R/T hood to fender stripes. My daily bought new is a 2014 Challenger R/T Classic in Plum crazy.
I hope younger folks will memorize this engine's sound and realize the thrill of raising the hood on a car like this. We didn't need AC, either, we just rolled the windows down lol...thank you, Joe, for making me smile throughout the whole review (I'll bet you had your own youthful flashback when you spotted that cop)!
As a 13 year old, all of these old v8 and v6 muscle cars are very amazing. We have to give a round of applause for the old factories who did a good job on vehicles, unlike lots of today's muscle cars. (Electric concepts cars)
I have a 73 with a big block 440 with two 4 barrel carbs bought the car 2 weeks after my 18th birthday now almost 40 and still have the car absolutely love these cars
Something is definitely wrong with the hood vents because y 1970 Challenger RT 440 Magnum my hood scoops are full functional. My air breather has 2 inlets that face directly into the hood scoops that gives it forced air induction. If the hood s hoops are none functional that it was either the inline 6 or 318. The 340-6 Pack had 390 HP and 490 ft Lbs torque. That 440 got that 490 ft Lbs of torque at just 2800 RPMs instead of 4,000 RPMs like the 426 HEMI.
My first car was a '70 Roadrunnerwith that same pistol grip. Learned the dance the hard way. My buddy had that same challenger, but orange. Great memories ! Thanks Joe

The way you keep things interesting and diverse is very much appreciated. Steven's pro shot high quality camera work showcases and captures the true beauty of these classic works of art. Great work fellas.✌️
My brother had a yellow ‘74 Challenger with the Rallye package with black strobe stripe decals seemingly coming out of phony side air vents on each door. This sport appearance package included the bulging twin nostril hood. He was able to pop off the inside caps blocking the hood scoop openings which allowed cool air into the engine bay when driving especially on the highway.
@@SidneyRJames Lots of possibilities, but I imagine the late 1960s 426 Hemi would be the top choice for many. It came in several body styles from Dodge and Plymouth, including the Challenger and Cuda. The L-88 427 Chevys and Boss 429 Fords can make a good case, although technically the 429 Mustangs were pony cars and not muscle cars. The Pontiac GTO is generally considered to be the first muscle car, so it might get a mention even though it couldn't run with the Hemis.
440 engine specs are 390@4,700 rpm & 490@3,200 rpm with a 10.5 :1 compression ratio. The tilt wheel must have been a rare option. In my 30 years of being around old cars I haven't heard of the option. This car has a collapsable steering column. My pick would be 1970 Buick GSX
My sister's first car was a 1971 Green Challenger. It was the first and only car we went over 100mph. My sister wanted to keep it. When she was deployed in the Navy her ex husband sold it for drugs. She was pissed. One good reason for my 2017 SRT392 was the retro look. Mine is Octane Red that looks like retro candy apple red with 20 inch Brass Monkeys. The plan is to keep it, even when gas is 10.99 a gallon when 45% are in Evs.
i grew up with these cars my dad has 2 one a 71 rt challenger and the other 71 rt/se challenger both having a 440 ..i am currently restoring a 70 myself and building a 440 for it
I am classic muscle car shopping. Many great cars, cuda, chevelle, charger, camaro, challanger top my list but I might just buy anything if it wins me over maybe even a mustang. 1965 buick riviera with the clam shell headlights. Mercury lead sled, 41 Willy's coupe.
Back in the day, a 4 speed was a lot of gears, and they really were faster than an automatic. I forgot what the window roller was called, a "window crank" and just about all cars had them.😊
Starting up this car is an event......a beast ......not really meant to run errands or pick up a quart of milk. A true classic. Thanks for the memory Joe. PS: PUNCH IT
That's my dream car. If it were in Alpine White it would be perfect. I have a white 22 Scat Widebody Shaker with an M6 and it's awesome... but... This is GLORIOUS.
Imagine the sound with headers and free flow exhaust!!! Is there cowl induction at the back of the hood to feed the open air cleaner??? I had a 71 Road Runner with 383 and pistol grip. It was a blast to drive-so many great memories.
Raiti, your channel, and the many great videos you created on Challengers, led me to purchase a beautiful, 2021 Challenger WBSP in Hellraisin with the Eibach Pro kit as you showed on your video of a Sinamon Stick 50th anniversary Challenger WBSP with the Pro kit. Im a Ford fan through and through...But back in 1970 when i was a wide eyed kid...i saw Vanishing Point...at the Cinema...and i was never the same !!! those Challengers are just Baddass !!!
What a car! Brings back memories of my cousin's '70 Challenger T/A. It wasn't a big block, but it could sure push you back in the seat. The 340 6-pack was severely underrated - MOPAR, Ford and Chevy all rated their Trans-Am cars (Challenger T/A, Cuda AAR, Boss 302, Z/28) at 290 hp. Ha. But, thanks for the insurance help. Great review. Hope to meet you if I can win it.
I love all the old muscle cars but the '70 Challenger was the best looking, hands down. Loving the wood steering wheel, I'd like to see them come back. You do great work and please keep the older car reviews coming.
Back in the day we swapped the skinny rear tires out for the wide G-60s, L-60s or 50s series widest tire. G-60s about 8 or 9 inches, L-60s 9-11inch. 50 series wider than that. Still could have traction issues though.
Love the Challenger Joe, would have bought a new Demon but I like convertibles and I didn’t want to pay an extra $26k to make it a convertible. I’m happy keeping my C4 Corvette and ZL1 convertibles. Gm guy my whole life but I did have 5 Viper trucks and I wouldn’t mind getting another one !
We always changed the ri.s and tires. We also installed air shocks on it so the tire weren't shredded rubbing on the fender wells. That's what I did to my 1968 Chevelle SS 396 with two 4 barrel carbs. Oh , half ton Chevy pickup springs. I had it up to 180 mph. I have to admit, it was a bit scary, bcuz the steering sucked.

I do wish it had a manual transmission, but beggars can not be choosers! I am 29, this will be the oldest car I have ever owned...but back in 2017 I had a 1972 Pontiac Grand Prix.
