I wear just above the knee length cause I like the freedom of movement and im shortish so shorter just looks better on me. I have my clan Robertson kilt, a generic green tartan, generic black and a solid black kilt sort of like a utilikilt. All from Sportkilt. I do have the legs for a kilt lol. Nice solid calves in a kilt I can flaunt them. They are worn with bomber jackets, cardigans and an extra small British army kilt-cut green jacket i manged to find on Etsy. Just below the knee black socks are worn with Doc Martins. In the summer no socks of course and Keens sandals. Which are great and look sort of like modern-day ghillies. The Sportkilts are very casual and comfy yet are an up from just wearing my usual cargo pants or leggings. I want an earisad one day in Robertson Hunter...one day.

Are there any unwritten or somewhat firm rules about women essentially wearing a man's kilt as a skirt, traditionally? And what's the difference, construction-wise to a man's kilt? I assume that a man's kilt still can have the pleats sewn down a short way down the back (as opposed to a 'great kilt'), so I then assume that a 'kilted skirt' isn't just a 'sewn kilt'? Ps, Is there a rule to how much actual sewing you can do on a kilt before it just turns into a skirt? I'm not sure what defines a kilt. Thank you.
There are actually kilts for both men and women. This includes kilts in the modern age as well as kilts historically such as the earasaid. Tartan is actually just the name of the patterned fabric used for any type of kilt. Plus, these guys are the professionals. Personally I think that if they don’t blink at a discussion of women’s kilts and go on to list the types, then that is just how it is. They are the ones who would know after all.

I will say that I think the answer to this is entirely dependent on the woman herself, and her own comfort level with different lengths of skirts.
