Dude you might’ve actually saved my Guinea pig Darby’s life, Thank you. I hadn’t seen one of my pigs like this before so I wasn’t sure at first but you confirmed my suspicions. He’s still at the vet recovering, but he has a good chance of being alright! Thank you so much for
Well said.People must pay attention and find a vet to explain and diagnose the problem! My boar has arthritis in his spine. I have a great vet who explains everything and he is on long term anti inflammatories. Arthritis is manageable, he still runs around like a young boar❤
Thank you for giving such a great list of things to look for. Catching illness quickly is so important in guinea pigs. I cannot express how important an emergency kit is! It has literally been the difference between life and death in some cases for me.
Thanks! I’m currently waiting for my vet to open. We’ve been to the ER and vet multiple times over the last two weeks for an eye issue. I think we are headed back as he’s now wincing, shivering, squeeking, biting the bars when he’s in his hidey, not moving much, not eating or pooping. He stopped mid syringe of critical care and winced. You made me feel better when you said some of the best parents are hypochondriacs. I feel crazy right now but I also think they keep missing the real problem. And I haven’t left one visit knowing exactly what was wrong. Poor Pig E. Smalls. 😢
You can always send me pictures of the eye and a description of what is happening through the contact page on my website. Once I reply you can send me pictures
Signs a guinea pig is in pain 1. Grinding teeth 2. Hunched over appearance 3. Squinting eyes 4. Drooling 5. Weight Loss 6. Fast laboured breathing 7. Reluctance to move 8. Whining or vocalising in pain
This is very informative, thanks Scotty. I noticed my Benny had some of these symptoms and took him to the vets today, hopefully he will be ok, fingers crossed 🤞♥️
That was a great informative video. I would notice something wrong with piggies and rush to vet. It is very important to be observant and to have an emergency kit. My vet always explained medical condition and the planned treatment.
we had a hard one couple weeks ago we weigh in grams like many piggie owners well we noticed Karma was feeling light weighed her and saw she was 100 - 150g less than a month ago and there had been diarrhea in the cage (herd of 9 at the time) so we took her in she was given pain meds and instructions to watch her food and such. Well 2 wks later I had noticed she continued on a downward spiral with her weight but it was REALLY hard to tell at first because she was only dropping 5-10g a day, negligible amounts it wasnt till a week and a half later when it had added up to another 100g down that it dawned on me what was happening. sadly she passed away later that day. We still dont know exactly what happened but weight lost can be really hard to notice if your weighing to often. to be fair it wasnt to often because she wasnt feeling good and needed the close watch i just didnt see the 2nd round of loss until it was to late.
My girl Virgil Anxiety Wheekers cries when ever her cage mate Nova Estelle Wheekers and i touch one of her hips and cries when we touch her near that same hip and my mom and i took her to the vet a long time ago and the vet said nothing was wrong with her hip but she still cries when her is touched. The vet we took her to didn’t even let us go in when they took my guinea pigs for their health checks and for Virgil’s hip exam; we had to said in the car. We never had to do that with any of the other vets we have been to in the past and we thought that was weird.
Of course, any signs of a change in their behaviour is a sign of something is not quite right. They don't always complain especially when they go into hiding lying down in their little tunnels. Their like babies. The more time we spend with them the more we get to know them 🤗
I think that also the screaming thing really depends on the situation I don't think that alone is a sign they're in pain as far as i know because my one guinea pig screams quite a bit but mainly when she wants food or is arguing with my other guinea pig.
When my Rosie was poorly she was hunched over looked kind of like a puffer fish all puffed up she wasn't eating or drinking or moving took her straight to vet they gave her antibiotics she's better now , but she was bleeding from her parts still don't no what it could of been she did have very big sides maybe bloat I'm not sure she's her normal self now vet didnt no what was wrong 😊
I think I told you that my girl Frostie was diagnosed with allergies. They still gave her antibiotics and eye drops. But we totally cleaned her cage from top to bottom. The only thing she had different was that forage food and the day after is when she was having a hard time breathing. She is doing much better. So I will not give her the foraging food for a while. I would eventually like to give it to her to see if that was the cause but I have to wonder if that is wise.
Hi Scotty, My female guinea pig is 8 1/2 years old. She still gets around but not as much. Is there anything different that I should do at her age? Is there anything special that I should be giving her? Thank you so much!
Hey! I have a very important question maybe you or the people at the rescue have the answer. So before 5 months i got two very young Guinea pigs. We have really bonded and they like to hide behind my neck. The problem is that before one month i got a fungal infections right in the spots they like to sit, i went to the doctor he said to me i got it from my pets and its very common. When i went home i inspected all there skin and feet and i didn't find any symptoms. I washed them with antifungal shampoo just to be safe but they have yet to show any symptom. Do know anything about that?

Hello scotty. I miss the sign of "puffed fur". My piggies always show this, when they are not well.
That's an excellent point!
Isn’t it to show other piggies that they are bigger?

Saving guinea pig videos in an own play list is good. I do it a lot.

Excellent video Scott. This really educates people. I must say you and Saskia do fantastic work and really do care for animals.
One of my piggies makes sounds that causes me to wonder if he is in pain. I am so glad I came across your video! THANK YOU!

Piggy fighting is dangerous though. They can get hurt real bad. Cringe!
Скотти ,спасибо что рассказываешь про свинок и их болезни. Теперь я знаю больше👍🌹🤗
Don't mess with Guinea pig city
I believe Any behaviour that differs from the norm indicates Something is Up 😊

Hi Scotty,
My female guinea pig is 8 1/2 years old. She still gets around but not as much. Is there anything different that I should do at her age? Is there anything special that I should be giving her? Thank you so much!

Scotty sometimes my guinea pig is in pain
I just got a male guinea pig ,but he doesn't make sounds, I worry
I had a female who suddenly started to drink water like crazy. Turns out she had lymphoma. Vet said it was because she was in pain
What if my guinea pig is possibly pregnant?
Another signs of pain, I think, is drinking more water than usual.
I don't like the word cuy on his shirt because it's what guinea pig meat is called. I'm against guinea pigs being consumed and it should be illegal.
I know Scotty is not about that and he is a good human to guinea pigs but I'm just saying
to be fair… we cant do anything about it. its what they eat because they legit cant eat ANYTHING else because nothing else survives there
Missus cuy is also the alive animal, cuys are not guineapigs ,not exactly .cuys are a similar animal but wild. Its likea eating chicken, when its alive is still chicken
Are you advertising as the Michael Vick of Guinea Pigs and sponsoring cuy fighting? That's a new low for you Scott! Do better dude, peace.
What are you talking about?
@@ScottysAnimals The shirt you wore advertised a cuy fight, lol!
