In this video I share step by step how to install a VPN connection on the Avtex AMR985 mobile Wi-Fi router

Very helpful, just ordered a new Bailey Unicorn and we are having the Avtex router fitted (as it is pre wired). We will be using the caravan in France so a VPN is essential. The Avtex router seems a decent bit of kit and you just showed that. Thanks

Nicely demonstrated. We don't use TV in the caravan or on the boat, but it was a good, clear demonstration. I've been using NordVPN on my phone and laptop for a few years, it's a slick service
I have Nord vpn at home very happy with it over Surf shark, Now I'll change my Netgear night hawk tor the AVTex router for my caravan. Great video very informative.
Hi Dan bit of info from me (G4uag) aI believe you are a radio ham. I use the EE sim 120 GB that lasts for one year from Argos £50.00 also have you done the speed tests from both routers?? Will order the avtex tomorrow.
Hi, yes guilty as charged - also a ham (M0TGN) thats a great Sim, we use Sky as we can roll over data. we have quite a small data contract, but because we dont use it all the time, we can roll data over etc. we have a 10Gb Sim (£10 PM) , and well over 500Gb in the piggy bank.
As for speed tests - ive bought some adapters to plug the external antennas in and I will be comparing the results from the Huawei, the Netgear & Avtex. I expect the netgear to be the quickest, but the features on the Avtex smash it out of the park.

Thanks, excellent explanation and all straightforward enough. I'm not sure I've managed to secure permission to get one fitted yet :-) (Well actually secure permission to pay for it!) I have a couple of months to work on it though! I've used Nord VPN in the past and it's very good.
Dan thank you so much for this upload as it will help me big time as I’m looking at a 3 month stay over in Spain, and the wife will be made up to have catch-up on iPlayer for east Enders 😂😂.

Great video as usual. Probably worth mentioning that all VPN's are not equal...Nord is probably one of the best for getting around geo blocking. I am coming to the end of a cyberghost subscription and will not be renewing. Many apps like iPlayer are able to determine that I am using a VPN and therefore block me.

so if I have followed correctly, when I go to France next year I set my VPN destination as the UK so we can watch British channel’s/iPlayer/Netflix/Prime etc etc?
That’s 100% spot on. You can set a UK profile now, and test it before you go. 👍

Hi Paul, well ive not done it, so will have to check, but i imagine only 1 connection will work, which one and if started from cold boot up, i would think its the first in the list. I will check however and get back to you.
Brilliant helpful content as always. When you select the US VPN and then try to go on Netflix will your UK Netflix log in details work?
Hi Craig, on the app i use my standard log in no matter the profile. This is on the Smart TV, the app on my phone etc, but on any web browser, I need to log in while using the UK profile, then switch over. To be honest, i've never had Netflix working correctly on FireFox, way before i fiddled with VPN connections etc.
@@TheTrudgians ah ok, I’ll defo be doing similar to your set up when we get another van as mines getting wrote off. Hitch failed, lucky wasn’t on the motorway…
I use Surfshark on a firestick and use Netflix login as per normal
When vpn set to UK then I get the usual Top films in uk etc
If I switch my “location” to USA then it shows Top Films in USA
You can search for films etc only showing in USA and try - they will be visible but switch back to Uk and they’re no longer visible

Okay bit more clued up on this now so thanks… Once profiles are created how do you revert back to auto factory settings- so you pick up your actual location?
Hi Jamie, just disable the profiles. Also if you do that reset the DNS settings and finish up with a reboot. I suppose you could add your peer DNS and have the Nord servers as 3 & 4 in the list. Hope that helps.

After watching your latest video about mifi /AVTEX speed tests - I watched this VPN vlog again.
I got out my DLink 4G router we use in caravan and fired it up at home and found could no longer get online with the fitted EE sim.
This was a 120Gb 12 month prepaid SIM. and I knew we hadn’t used it much .
Long story short - spoke to EE who said if it’s not used for 3 months the sim is deactivated.
Pain as I had over 82Gb left
Anyway after a moan they re -activated it so no problem.
I use Surfshark VPN on my iPhone / iPad and firestick and find it very good
I looked at installing it on the router as per your vlog but then thought sometimes we connect the firestick via 4G router , ( EE) and sometimes tether to iPhone (Three) and ( very) occasionally to site WIFi 😂.
I figured installing on router would not be as versatile as on the firestick itself.
Anyway bottom line thanks for your ( as always) informative and clear vlog Dan.
Now need to work out how to vpn the Sky Q box

I have this Avtex product. I have a Sky Q box in our motorhome. I need the WiFi link to it to work so I can use voice commands and catch up. But I don’t want sky to know I am out of the U.K. so….do I set the VPN to a U.K. site????

Apart from being able to watch UK programmes when in Europe, is there another reason for installing a VPN on my AVTEX AMR985? Ie web security? Or for the Firestick which we use in our TV, please?

Hi on my home pc and router I run a NAS and use Plex to remotely access this while away either on my tv or iPad. Would adding a vpn to my Avtex amr985 cause any problems accessing or will it work like any other streaming service. Thanks Alan
You might need to add an exception for port 32400 - but I would think it should work. 👍
Hi Dan, I have followed you instructions, when I log into Avtex the page that comes up has a does not have the headers so cant dropdown to start setting the router up.

Hi, please visit the blog where there is a subtle change. Nord VPN now require service credentials instead of username and password. Ive documented exactly how to do this, in this article.

It might be the Nord VPN credentials. They recently changed the method in how this works.

Hi Dan, this is brilliant, thanks for sharing. Can I ask. We are going to France next week, should I set my Avtex up with a UK ip address before I go, so that when I get there it thinks we are in the UK? And then I would be able to watch British tv? Am I understanding this correct?

I’ve hit a problem I think Dan? I have opened up my Avtex but I only have ‘Status’ available to select from the drop down menu at the top, I don’t have Network Services or System like you do? Any ideas? Thanks

how do you change router password
Log in with “admin” and “987654321” all setting available there. You will need to change password at 1st login.

Because you are using a fire stick, would it not not have been easier to just install Nord VPN app on the fire stick, and then you wouldn’t have to change any settings within the wireless router which seems a long and intensive thing to do when it could be made so simple, especially for those that are not as technology savvy
Hi Ryan, no I’m using a Roku stick, it doesn’t support Nord. Also, as stated in the Vid, this is done in one place, all connected devices are protected.
Finally, it’s not a lot of effort to be honest. 5 minutes tops - including rebooting the router.
@@TheTrudgians sorry I assumed Roku was very similar to fire stick in that you could download the app from the store, learn something new every day goes to ShowI don’t listen either 😂🤦🤦
Of course...if you have a BT hub router, the firmware doesn't support VPN's Grrrr Cheers anyway Ivor G6ATJ
you'd be amazed how many routers do not support it. Thats one of the reasons why i switched over to this Mobile wi-fi router from Avtex. It does a lot !!
