Sonde the blocks release, Samurai Jack, Evil Con Carne, Cow & Chicken and I Am Weasel have also joined the party. Also Adult Swim recently premiered a second retro network based on the original Kids’ WB/The CW 4Kids and CN versuon of Toonami called Toonami Rewind which plays Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z Kai (a,so airrs Weekends at 2:00am on the main Adult Swim bloch) and the original series of Naruto.
Now that the studio has disbanded it makes sense that all the characters went their own way. I imagine that the CN City was representative of the studio itself, not just because all the shows came from the same place, but also due to all the connections the production staff members had with one another. Memories were made there. The part where they all share the same house represents that even if the characters all went their separate paths, they still remember each other and want to relive the old days, just like what the Checkered Past block aims to do.
Another way these characters are connected is that not only they get to be alive again on the network after being gone for so long, but checkered past becomes an in-between space for Cartoon Network and Adult Swim. Adult Swim might sign on early now but at the end of the day, it is airing old CN shows for those last 2 hours instead of Gumball or Teen Titans and then AS shows start airing at it's normal time, 7 PM. These characters get to live on TV on Cartoon Network once again by being on Adult Swim. They get the best of both worlds. Can't wait until this block gets extended to 9 PM so Adult Swim can return to airing at 10 PM like in the past, the "checkered" past :)
I have said too I wouldn’t be surprised it happens very soon. Checkered past will do great and I wouldn’t be surprised it gets already more viewers than anything on Cartoon Network or even adult swim. It would be nice if that happens, they would play Space ghost at 10pm when adult swim really starts. I already don’t count checkered past as adult swim, more just like a another block like Cartoonito.
It may be a little different than the original CN cartoon bumpers, But I for one like to think of them as like a new generation type of thing like the originals are what we all grew up with and now these new bumpers are for the new generation of viewers. But would anyone else see it that way, Probably not.
This is truly inspiring and amazing! I am very happy to see all the classic characters back and I am super glad to know that I can see the cartoons I love on the network again even just as a bonus block on AS.
