Such high quality content and such a small fan base is quite a rarity on UA-cam. I hope the algorithm gives you the boost in viewership and subs that you deserve
That's no understatement, this site is 90% gaming hot take list videos. Every year the metal gear series ages like wine and more of its themes become apparent, salient, and applicable to historical and political events so unpacking it on a granular level is spectacular.
when i was in school, i learnt about the romans, ancient egyptians, world war one, world war two and the cold war. not once did the topic of the cuban missile crisis nor the bay of pigs invasion ever pop up. it's mad how a video game franchise can teach you what you never learnt in school.
Global/History was always my favorite subject but the issue is this. I don't know how long your class would spend on a given topic but generally for mine it was about a week or two. That's not nearly enough to cover all the nuance and accuracy of the given information, right? Couple that with the fact that when you're a kid you don't have the ability necessarily to understand the gravity of these conflicts and separate them from a moment in time.
What a fascinatingly detailed video. Right down the detail of the subtitle “Snake Eater” being something of a reference to “Operation Mongoose.” I dunno if Kojima himself intended that.
He is,I have been using these videos as a medium for studying politics and literary history since WW2. History repeats itself for certain, and the themes he brings to light are very active in today's world.
I watched the WW2 video 20 times, every time there's a new info that I missed last time Such a quality content You made me love George Orwell's and I'm reading 1984 well written episodes thanks for every video you made hope you gain an even bigger audience
Absolutely love this channel and your work. Been watching your stuff for days now. I hope you'll continue this MGS3 series to be as deep as the MGS1 and MGS2 ones.
You deserve more coverage. I share every video, so good. I having grown up with Metal Gear Solid have a deep love of the series and the many historical, sociological, philosophical, and psychological lessons to be derives from the series. Replayed each of the games far too many times, especially since a few things I noticed years ago I had not heard repeated before I discovered your channel.
Without question my favorite content on UA-cam. It's a combination of my two passions; history (specifically as it relates to the USSR, the Cold War and the like) and Metal Gear Solid. You've both vindicated me with regards to MGS V and how much depth it actually has (I've been insisting that since I first played through) as well as taught me a huge amount.
Man this video is my favorite of yours, and that's really saying something! You're like the Ken Burns of gaming. The research you do, and of course the music! MGS3's soundtrack still gives me chills!
This was a great watch and I learned so much stuff even deeper. You deserves so many more views! Tying this all together tells a great story indeed. I look forward to more Metal Gear videos from you good sir.
How do you make full ass documentaries of this quality every single week???? You HAVE to be some kind of film/cultural professor, there's no way you can be churning out some of the best videos I've ever seen in such a short amount of time. I mean this with complete respect, but who the hell ARE you lmao
29:05 i got chills, here's to you for playing Snake Eater acapella all the way through. You really nail the Metal Gear Hideo Kojima spirit, i can't explain it but it's great, thanks.
It was at this moment that I understand that Kojima is one of our history’s most important minds. If only the man had the power to change politics. Truly profound mind.
Reminds me of your mini Revolutionary War history lesson. I need to go read some good books on both of these events, good thing you included your sources.
Awesome video, as always. But a slight side note: in the beginning, in the title you have a Russian word “существо”, presumably a translation of “existence”, but it actually means “a being, a thing”. I know it is likely just for the sake of MGS3, Cold War stylization of the intro, but if you care, I would suggest “существование” for your future videos, since it’s a long-running series. Anyway, best of luck, keep up the good work. Each of your videos is a pleasure :)
@Will dude, do you have like, nothing better to do? you have been commenting like this for like 40 minutes, might wanna take a break from the computer dude.
@Will I know it probably looks like I'm trying to dunk on you (i'm not), but do please watch something you enjoy instead of just posting shitty meme comments. Would probably help you out of whatever is going on.
I studied in my cities third highest ranked highschool, we had topics warrying from first local civilizations to ww1 but never learned that the world almost ended? That's so fucked up... I by that time knew about the cuban missile crisis through mgs3 but I had no idea...
Amazing work, man! I really have enjoyed your ability to connect real-life events with the politics of MGS to highlight the subtext. I do want to critique your research, though. I think you may have been researching from a western perspective on the Cuban Missile Crisis- referring to Cuba as an unimportant island, while quickly skimming past Cuban (or other countries that attempted a third worldist route to internationalism during the cold war) perspective. If there's anything I've learned from MGS its that even the perspective that our own leaders tell us may not be truthful, that their intentions may be hidden behind much deeper, larger interests beyond good and evil. I'm still incredibly impressed with your abilities as a filmmaker, and your research can be very precise. When talking about the cold war, I think it really may be important to try to do more research from a Cuban-sympathetic perspective. There was a lot of paranoia heightened around Castro, just as there was for Saddam Hussein (Which you acknowledge) because the route of independence he was taking Cuba in directly meddled with many US financial interests, especially the fact that they were one of the US' prime sugar exports, and the infrastructure of Cuba was underdeveloped BECAUSE it was solely a sugar export. Cutting off the States was fundamental. But also, the revolutionaries had just witnessed Guatemala's US-supported coup when their president had attempted to perform democratic reforms that threatened the land ownership of the United Fruit Company. They saw how quickly the States would immediately undermine their government if they couldn't defend themselves. Cuba's sugar fields were being bombed daily after the revolution. Plus, keep in mind, the US is the only nation to have dropped a nuclear bomb on another nation in the world, and Hiroshima had only been about 20 years before the events of the Cuban Revolution. Creating an alliance with the Soviet Union, holding missiles for defensive purposes all make perfect sense from this perspective. Apologies for the rambling, but I hope you'll read this!
Can't wait to be played like a Damm fiddle again excepting a more game centered analysis and getting a history class instead. Of course I can't complain at all the content is great and is always cool to learn a little more about history specially if we are talking about big events like these, like I never covered it in much detail during my school years and now I get to know more about it. So keep up the good work and make us learn new things while enjoying this beautiful content
i jut wanted to say that about your secrets on mgs 5 cut scene video i did post it on r/mgs but i think maybe look in to the cassette tapes that unlock alongside them which i guess you are doing, lot of background noise and music comes out of them.
Wait......Volgin was operating in the area of Hungary in the 1950s, not terribly far from Székely Land.....Surprising Skullface didn't have even more animosity towards Volgin
Funny seeing an westerner perspective of the cuban missile crises. All I'm gonna say is the US was hostile towards Cuba in many ways first and as you said the USSR had tried to engage with the US and they still acted hostile because it would hurt them economically and politically to the ruling class cause communism would free the workers and stop the accumulation of capital and imperialism and racism in their own country. I thought you did exceptional tho just definetoy more western framing it seems....but props though cause this is better than what most american institution and ppl know so props
Funny how quarantine is being used today in a legal sense, potentially. I did test positive and carry the virus last year, very painful 3 days for me, but who knows what’s going on. History does seem to repeat, or cycle itself. Like a snake. Snake had to eat the cobras and end the old “times” and carry war into a new era. Where like his master he too became a villain, to perhaps save the world with old snake in mgs4. Everything led to that, although not perfect. I also would love to play as the boss in Stalingrad along with krushtev (sorry, bad spelling) and storm Normandy. I wonder what black ops they were pulling off in those fights, and where the parasites came from. It could be an origin story for skull face and psycho mantis as well. Let’s see! Cheers boys
I also did not add that maybe volgin could be seen to fight as a child wielding fire in Stalingrad, perhaps a flamethrower, and that skull face could be psycho mantis’ father. I’m not sure.
Honestly brother I watched this more for the history than I did MGS. Make more history content, focus your channel around that niche. If you exploit the historical angle towards gaming you'd be carving an area for yourself to really blow up because it's an underserved genre whereas gaming is saturated.
Make a video for the last of us 2 the most underrated game of all time and probably the best game since metal gear solid 2. It’ll be a game in 4-6 years where people will come back to it and proclaim in a masterpiece

It's just a matter of time, like with everything.
That intermission for one minute to midnight gave me goosebumps.
I’m glad!
Not for honor. But for you.
This is some of the highest quality gaming content on YT right now.
The bar is pretty low for that
But this whole channel is really really good
Yes his vids are great! This is exactly what mgs deserves.
Yes.

Pfft you haven't seen tourettes guy
You keep spitting these out like you aint even breaking a sweat dude.
Its impressive.
yoooo I did a school video project on the crisis and used snake’s opening quote from MGS3 to start the video along with background ost from the games
Right on man, you musta had fun with that project!
