Excellent video, David! I remember filming from your lot there at Mt. High North as the choppers dipped for the Bobcat Fire. Of course I didn't have that awesome viewpoint- had to drive up Blue Ridge for that one
@@dappa9635 First time seeing them get drinks from the parking lot. It's common for them to fill up from our reservoirs at the top of our resorts to fight nearby fires.
@SegoMan great question. All I can say is that the one the choppers were dipping into was fire-retardant and the other one was water which we witnessed them using to clear their system and just dump it in the parking lot. Not sure why they didn't contain the semi. Was just happy to enjoy the free airshow!
It seems like if you have a spot that good, it would be easier to just land to refill. Not as cool looking obviously, but less strenuous on the pilots and longer time on station if you can throttle down...
@bigmak40 True. Not sure why they did it this way, but it was super cool to witness. Reminded me of some of the awesome air ops I was lucky enough to witness in combat. It got me so hyped up! Thanks for commenting.
That is one/two skilled pilot

The fire retardant is made in Fresno over by the airport north of the east end of the runway. Or at least I heard that 15 years ago lol
Great video!
Good video of the big beasts in action.
Like a massive, crazy hummingbird
I feel like I saw this location on an episode of Emergency one time.
That's pretty impressive. It was extremely dangerous at these guys are outright professionals.

Why do you need containment berms for water tanks? Yet the "Stationary" semi truck which is being used as the mani source of fuel has none..
