Your next Cleveland mission, if you choose to accept it, is to talk to the city engineers office and ask permission to view the Lakeshore Electric Electric interuraban trolley station located at the west end of the lower level of the Veterans Memorial bridge.
I like those funny looking turnstiles, a modern farebox installed on the classic turnstile but using only the card reader features. Looks like I can just pay cash at the fare box... NOT!
Toronto has two lost subway stations. Lower Queen was roughed in for an underground streetcar line to go below the subway when it first opened in March 1954. That streetcar line was never built. (But we are now building a subway that will pass under Queen station, although on a different route.) Lower Bay is perhaps slightly more famous and was part of the original Bay station when the Bloor-Danforth line opened in 1966. The lower platform served as a means to interline trains across the fledgling system, but interlining was abandoned after 6 months due to safety concerns of passengers crowding stairs to see which train would arrive next. Today, Lower Bay is used for movie shoots and occasionally opened up to the public for Doors Open events.
i feel like they should have kept the 2 platforms so amtrak could go back to tower city because they want to send more service to cleveland but the old red line platforms are heavly damaged and are in a unknown statis due to them not being looked after since 1990
Man our Toronto light rapid transit is essentially a straight line, has been under construction since 2015. It was supposed to be open 2019. Now they are saying 2026.
I wonder how difficult it would be to reactivate the old tracks? If Amtrak really does get the 3C+D service going, it’ll make way more sense to run them into Tower City.
Most of the tracks were ripped up and are were the current tower city parking garage is. Maybe it can be done, but they will need to close and demolish the parking structure first. I always thought it would be cool to turn the old closed movie theater into a train station
why did they get rid of it in the first place? If I had a mall or shopping complex above a rail station, and I lived on that line I would be using that rail line every time I needed to go shopping, even if I was 20-30 miles out, if my house was within 500 meters of the station that I were to get off, that would be fine... So, by way of walking, that shopping complex would be approx 1km walk away from my house and the cost of train fare
They moved it when the built the newer combined station. The trains that used to utilize that platform are still operational, just using a different platform now
There are old platforms on the Jubilee Line in London at Charing Cross, used in emergencies when the Jubilee Line extension to Canary Wharf is shut. Amazing semi secret platform. ❤
When were you in Cleveland? I was there from 2/17 to 2/19 and there was also maintenance going on but since I went through Union station not long after the ungodly hour the Lake Shore Limited arrives and it was snowing a lot, I didn’t go explore the station and instead hopped on the first red line I could get. I ended up spending the rest of my stay in the Case Western area where the friend I was visiting goes to school so I didn’t get to go back to explore Tower City (and I Ubered back to the Amtrak station after I learned the hard way of the lack of transit that serves the main intercity rail station for the city)
Looks clean and sparkly, like they took a long run up to get it right for when it was needed - for context, is there a site with a useful diagram/map of the alterations? Thanks for the deep dive \m/
That would be the Mark W. Barker. It’s currently running ore shuttles from the Bulk terminal in the outer harbor to the Cliffs steel mill about 6 mi upriver.

History of Terminal tower is amazing.
Love my RTA red line. Love that it connects airport to downtown
Yeah, and I’m pretty sure it’s one of the first ever cities to have a rail connection from the airport to downtown which is so so cool

It was special for me too, this somehow rocketed up to being my third most watched video of all time! And thanks for the shirt :)
🤩 WOW! That Is So Awesome 👏🏼 🎉 Congratulations 🎈🎉 That Is Super Exciting!!! 😊 And You Are Most Welcome 😊

Gotta love seeing the old shaker platforms! Who knows, maybe RTA will permanently move there if inter-city trains return to tower city
Hopefully some day down the line Cleveland will find some money to help the rapid...
I'm so glad to see an explainer video on this! I accidentally came down here on the elevator when I visited two years ago, and I was very confused.
The fare gates in this temporary platform are better than the actual permanent fare gates in the main platform, that's absolutely wild to me.
Good old weird Track 7... Makes me wonder how many abandoned platforms are still under Tower City
I like those funny looking turnstiles, a modern farebox installed on the classic turnstile but using only the card reader features. Looks like I can just pay cash at the fare box... NOT!
It looks like a bus farebox

there used to be actual railroad trains that used that terminal as well. before Amtrak moved the station

Cleveland wasn’t on my short term list of places to visit. But this is almost telling me to come now.

FYI, this service change started on March 5 and is ongoing until further notice.
I was on it in 1978
Oh wow. I'm gonna have to see this when I go back!
Very interesting
How do these fare gates work? The farebox attached unlocks the turnstile?

how……….. unique!

Too bad Amtrak doesn't server this union station, and instead uses that dinky old station out in the middle of nowhere...
i need that shirt also
It was a brilliant video sir!
I'm looking forward to this :-)
Marvel should hire Caleb… he has the best superpower yet: managing to teleport across the world and making a video about it within a week 💪🦸♂️

I'm English, but have used this platform
i thoguht they stopped running trains into there...
Heavy metro for now; they are unifying under one fleet (Siemens S200)
Hello classy whale thx for coming to Cleveland ohio I hope to meet u in person one day.
I am intrigued by that bulk carrier travelling down (?) the Cuyahoga. Did you happen to see a name or anything interesting about it?
That would be the Mark W. Barker. It’s currently running ore shuttles from the Bulk terminal in the outer harbor to the Cliffs steel mill about 6 mi upriver.
When was this ???
Restore CUT For Amtrak, CVSR and Commuter Raaaaiiil.
You sound REALLY like RM transit
Kinda jealous you got to see this as a guy who loves cleveland haha
You're just trolling me at this point aren't you...
4 transit lines?? I thought it was only 3
The waterfront line is considered a separate line
Cleveland mentioned! As a local, this is a momentous occasion!
