While Opera GX doing this is completely unsurprising, especially considering their target audience, but this did make me think about a supposed universe where Google reaches out to Merryweather to make Chrome-chan a Vtuber. That would be funny I think, especially considering Chrome-chan is the villain.
More realistically though, I believe Google already has an anime girl mascot in Japan, so they could make her a Vtuber instead.
Though I don't remember it very well, it may have been Microsoft.

Which is an understandable concern, but they often ignore alot of them show themselves atleast to a point where you can say "yup, it's not a male". There could also rise up some legality issues if a corpo lies about that, especially the fact that they'll lose basically all the trust if that somehow gets exposed. Babiniku, a.k.a. exactly those kinda streamers are also separated and recognized in the industry.

The issue is not that they advertised It, the issue is that they bragged about artificial views.
Like I can understand them basically advertising the stream in their own app, but just scrolling past it and that counting as a viewer is just cheating the numbers.

As an opera gx user I can confirm that this is a moment
The viewers on debut vs viewers right now isn't proof that it was inflated at all. All vtubers experience that, especially those on big companies or with a lot of hype behind them. Sure, 73k to 2k is a pretty large differential, that's fair, but 1) 73k was PEAK viewership (average was 65k), and 2) most people that checked out the stream were Opera GX users or twitter meme enjoyers, not vtuber fans. Hololive (biggest vtuber agency) debuts, for example, get tons of curious people, but most are vtuber fans that are more likely to stay for later streams. This is not the case for Aura.
So overall, were the viewers inflated? Yeah, probably so. But I sincerely doubt it's as big of a deal as many people are implying. Opera GX is a pretty big browser with gaming/twitch/vtuber/anime communities, and the GX twitter account is pretty popular as well, so I think something like 30-50k doesn't look absurd. They get like 25k likes every tweet. Also, it's not like Hololive doesn't bot their debuts too :V
