Great coaches, players, it's definitely a sweeter spot than most to be in for a new QB. To say otherwise... is ignorance. Hoping the best for the Vikes in the future!
Honestly I have a lot of optimism for JJ, but lets say he doesnt turn out how we expected. We still got Dallas Fucking Turner. I think this team will be better than last year in one of the most competitive divisions in football
Vikings Fan here. I'm excited about our QBs. If Sam is balling out, let JJ sit. There has never been a rookie qb in the Superbowl, and it's probably for good reason. Only like a quarter of QBs over the past 20 years have started week 1, and of those, only a couple actually got a ring in their career. Sitting isnt a bad thing. It just means we got some depth to play with. Skol.
either way just don't expect a great season. It's part of the process. Peyton manning(3-13) and so many other good and great QBs had bad first seasons. Caleb Williams is going to get humbled this year. Hopefully it doesn't break him
You did not offend any Vikings fans. O’Connell has been clear that he needs to develop, and there is no need to rush him. The Vikings know exactly what they’re doing.
It's not a harsh truth to say that J.J. isn't ready to lead the team yet. He's a rookie, and even with our current situation, he shouldn't be forced to rush his progression and improvement into the NFL. Giving him time will help both him and the team long into the future. I just hope other Vikings fans see that
One thing I find crazy is how almost every failing franchise's fanbase thinks that a rookie QB can start fresh out of college. Meanwhile you look at every elite QB and they had at least 1 season to learn and get adjusted to the league from a veteran QB. Tom Brady learned from Drew Bledsoe, Drew Brees from Doug Flutie, Patrick Mahomes from Alex Smith, etc. The Green Bay Packers have this down to a science, currently having three elite QBs in a row: Brett Favre -> Aaron Rodgers -> Jordan Love. I only elite QB that didn't need a prep-season was Peyton Manning, who is basically once-in-a-lifetime generational talent at the position from day 1 (although a prep-season might've helped his anger management towards kickers). Either way, glad to see the Vikings are actually giving McCarthy a fighting change in the league.
Marino, Elway, Manning, Roethlisberger, Wilson...plenty of all-time great QBs started in year one. As for Favre, the Packers started him the second they acquired him from Atlanta. If they drafted him, he would have been playing from day one.
C.J. Stroud was prepared in college to go into a dumpster fire in Houston, without anything close to the support staff JJ has in MN. Remember, Nico Collins may have just signed a ridiculous $70M contract, but lets be real; Nico was a passport and bus ticket away from finishing his career in Canada before Stroud showed up, and that Houston O-Line never had a consistent lineup. JJ is a college level baller who was never asked to do anything at Michigan that would prepare him to be a starting rookie QB.
Cousins had RG3 to sit behind. Seriously, Cousins went 3-0 his rookie season and was the reason they won their division. The Redskins would have beaten Seahawks in the playoffs if Cousins started.
As a Michigan fan. I think if the Vikings allow JJ to develop naturally he will become a franchise QB. Now if you want to get him in on day 1. Beef up the o-line, get better RB’s and pound the ball and let JJ make the small throws until he is comfortable. Either way, I think through time, JJ can be top 10 maybe top 5 in the league.
Same. I feel like he could play early but it would definitely go rough to some extent. As a Michigan fan we saw how consistent and significant his development was each year. Give him some time and he has all the ability and intangibles to be a star. People are crazy for not seeing his evident natural talent. Cannon arm, natural accuracy, above average speed, and a very favorable frame. Sorry for the rant but yeah I believe in JJ!
As a Vikings fan, I believe everything that you said is true. Let him sit and develop it’s what’s best for this franchise and gives us the best chance to win in the future. build up our roster for the upcoming years and get him ready. Everything that this franchise does from here on out is about development and success for our players.
Sam darnold being qb1 means literally nothing as a knock against McCarthy, the Vikings said before the draft before they even picked McCarthy that Darnold would be QB1 , and even after drafting McCarthy they still said darnold will be qb1 unless McCarthy shows perfection bc KOC said throwing a young qb to the wolves is the worst thing u can do for their development
Skol Vikings here! I'm honestly hoping that The Darnold can have a decent season while JJ develops. He's one of the youngest QBs coming in as well, at just 21. If that means we get quality play down the line, I'm all for it! Keep it up ASC, love your stuff 💪
No, don't let the idiots at ESPN do anything with this guy's content. He just needs more exposure, which will come with time (and a little luck). Selling out to a Disney product will just ruin the whole thing just for some cheap views. Look what happened to the Pat Mcafee show, it kind of sucks now.
Within days of those initial reports he was making huge improvements. He needed to fix some footwork stuff. Look for him to steal the job at some point this year if Sam is injured or struggles. Great video!
Im a Vikings fan. I loved this video. This is everything ive been saying about JJ as well. I dont think he is ready either. At least in comparison of Nick Mullens and Sam Darnald. Its still early so this is definitely not a bad thing. Too me it dumb starting a Rookie QB week 1.
Wow. I do not usually comment on videos, but I must say the quality of this video is exceptional you can tell you put a lot of work into it. Keep up the good work and please post more Viking content!
I'm a lions fan and a Michigan fan too and I'm not happy he went to the Vikings because this guy when he develops is going to be very good. He WANTS IT, and has the confidence to GET IT.
The JJ McCarthy "injury" was a ploy. The Vikings wanted no distractions if Darnold started to falter. They did not want the press and fans to start screaming for JJ. So they "injured" him. That way he gets to know the organization, gets to learn a bit, and gets a year older (he's only 21) without the calls for them to drop the plan for him. BRILLIANT I say....simply brilliant.
very few rookie QBs are ready day one, their teams just don't have the patience to sit them as long as they need, the all time great QBs who started right away looked shaky their rookie seasons, Peyton and Josh Allen both had to go through the struggles of learning the system while putting physical strain on their bodies
Let him sit regardless, and learn. Game speed is different. I’m not sold on Darnold either but we aren’t winning the SB this year with either. I wanted Minshew as a gap QB to be honest. And who knows, maybe Darnold will do something in Minny he couldn’t do elsewhere 🤷🏻♂️
Funny, half way through last year you all were saying Love was a bust. He's played half a season and you think he's a franchise QB. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. I wouldn't trade JJ for Love if you threw in stone hands Watson
@@peac2916 I was one of them who had all faith in him I saw his potential because he sat behind a franchise QB just like Farve and Rodgers JJ will probably get thrown to the wolves and be a bust like most other QB’s straight out of college even if he’s benched and y’all will say he’s a bust. Yet we will be over here with our franchise, don’t get mad cause y’all haven’t been good 😭
I am so happy that the ownership, GM, and head coach are on the same page about "sitting" JJM for potentially a year. All you have to do is look at Sam Darnold as the poster child of a qb who was thrown into the deep end way to early. I remember Bud Grant would not ever play a rookie his first year, and he did ok.
I agree as a vikings fan i hoped they would never let a veteran qb start again, but I like how they are not rushing things or not to rush anything. Give him time than let him loose.

The fact that we didn’t mortgage the future for him makes me love the plan even more. If Darnold sucks the vikes get another high pick which could be huge.
Two things. I dont know if jj was playing against the ones or twos during otas. I know that when Caleb was struggling he was going against the veteran starters on def. Second i only see waiting on a rookie if you dont have the team to support them. The vikings should have a complete offense to put around jj unlike whatever the hell it was that carolina tried. Drake Maye is one that i could see sitting since the patriots are probably going to be this years Carolina.
He was on the "backup" team for OTAs and minicamp. By his own admission he's thrown one pass to Jefferson so far, but the Vikings have smartly placed their lockers right next to one and other, so they can build chemistry.
Vikings fan here. I thought the Vikings should keep Kirk cousins for 1 year and let JJ McCarthy learn behind him. But, if JJ isn’t ready then the Vikings should have him sit.
J.J. McCarthy has proven his abilities far and above all other QB's in history at 21 coming out of Michigan with the highest winning record second to none in the NFL right now. With KOC and the help of Jefferson and crew were about to see history being made. As you say KOC will know when it is time for JJ.
@@Rookie_.prodzz JJ has a way of adjusting to what it takes to WIN a game. That is the only statistic that matters is winning the game. Not what his qb rating is, although JJ's has been elite level there too.
Believe Me , I’m a Bears fan and JJ is the guy I wanted them to draft . He has the arm , the smarts and he’s a proven winner . Screw what all of those so called analysts have said . In my opinion JJ and the Vikings will be in the SB before any of the other QB’s drafted this year . The Bears made a BIG mistake . They talk about him not passing enough , why should he . He didn’t need too and when he did JJ Delivered . Go back to the last OSU game and the TD pass he threw between the helmets of the two defenders . Nuff Said !
THE JURY IS OUT !!!! J J MCCARTHY HASN'T EVEN PLAYED 1 NFL GAME. HIS JUDGEMENT WILL COME AFTER HE'S SPENT 10 YEARS IN THE NFL, IF HE LASTS THAT LONG. NFL IS MUCH FASTER THAN COLLEGE FOOTBALL.
JJ will have the best career out of all QBs taken in this past draft. Book it. *I bet $5K to someone that in 5 years he will have the better career of all QBs taken in this draft*
He better be ready. This grand plan MN has for him, "everyday for a decade is mapped out!" is at best naive and at worst is outright stupid, a plan where the worst case scenario is the most likely outcome. Because this grand plan all hinges on Sam Darnold. The most likely thing to happen is Darnold is what he has been his entire career (not QB1 material) and the Vikings start the season 1-4, -1-5, the media begins tearing them apart for not starting McCarthy, the fans start complaining, the pressure builds until McCarthy gets thrown in the deep end, made QB1 without an offseason of first team reps and not nearly as ready as he could have been.
McCarthy will not play unless he is ready, they still have Nick Mullens as the backup. Every single coach and front office personal have safety in knowing that they aren't getting fired this year. The national media and the larger NFL fan community might complain about not staring McCarthy, but fans of the team and local media are perfectly fine if he doesn't play a regular season game this year.
If Sam can go 8-9 with that very limited Panthers roster and coaching, I'm sure he'll be fine with the Vikes offence and roster. Kirk had a bad start to his career as well, even worse than Sam but folks seem to forget that 9 seasons later.
i've watched every J.J. Mccarthy game he has ever played i personally am a michigan for you viking fans i would be very excited he is a hard worker and is a leader on the football and in general a winner he is a guarantied at least as good as Kirk probably better i'm exited for his future in MINOSOTA. he also does not have to be rushed into a game like Caleb Williams
I'm a Panthers/Vikings fan. The Vikings side of me thinks not throwing J.J. to the wolves is honestly a good idea, but the Panthers side of me has seen Sam Darnold play football. Though, to be fair to Darnold I don't think even Mahomes could have lifted those Panthers teams out of the hell that they were in. My hope is that with his best supporting cast yet Darnold can finally shine the way he was supposed to.
Sam went 8-9 with the Panthers. Baker, Bryce etc went 5-28. Kirk has about five 8-9 seasons with Washington and the Vikes. I think Sam will thrive in the Vikes offence with their roster.
They are changing his footwork/throwing mechanics, so the early concerns are kind of over blown. They know that 99% of rookie QB's are never truly ready to play their first season. He'll either be starting week 1 or sitting 3rd string, and not because he's the 3rd worst on the roster. More so because if Darnold goes down they don't want to have to put JJ in out of the blue. In reality McCarthy is the most talented QB on the roster and could start, but why rush it?
JJ has no throttle control. Life long Michigan fan. JJ has zero velocity control. His WR in college learned to deal with it. JJ’s receivers made at least 6 ints into receptions. This can’t/will not happen in the NFL
So Sammy D starts and blows . JJ comes un and straight burns down the rest of season . Next year Vikings get a high 1st pick and you fix the issue as long as JJ isnt totalled . Stefanski will coach him through a rough start. If the viks fall to 3rd in division thus seasons they will be back to 2nd the following. Phins Up !!
Realist Vikes fan here. We are still gonna be 11th best every year. We missed on the best QB again. Let’s just get Sanders or Ewers. Let’s tank already.
I watched him in college, The guy was a Product of an amazing team around him. Every once in awhile He would have a "Wow" type play. But often times He was a handoff Merchant to the best running back duo in college football in Donavan Edwards and Blake courum.
You didn't watch close enough. Run game only averaged 169 yards per game (84th). Corum only had four 100-yard games and Edwards one. Twenty of Corum's twenty-six TDs were from inside the five and one was from the six-yard line. So only five were over ten yards. J.J.'s passing is what got them inside the five all year. Michigan was constantly at third and long. On third and long J.J. was 36 of 49 (74 %) 6 TDs, 0 INTs, and averaged 15 yards per completion. All Michigan QBs are handoff merchants. That's why they don't get 5-star QBs. J.J. was all set to go to Ohio State but Ryan Day took McCord. That's the only reason Michigan got J.J. Also J.J. practiced everyday against the best defense in the country and showed out. By the way, J.J. had more pass attempts than Harbaugh and Brady.
I went to Nazareth with him back in 2018 in illinois. And well he’s a great great guy trust me he is. But he cares too much about football then about what other people do
This didn't age well at all. O Connell said he believes J.J. is their franchise QB and his teammates say he is a dawg. They and I would know better than you
As a Michigan fan I hope JJ has a great career. But the Lions are number one in my heart. So he can win 10 MVPs but he's not allowed to beat the Lions.. sorry those are the rules

@@Rookie_.prodzz JJ has a way of adjusting to what it takes to WIN a game. That is the only statistic that matters is winning the game. Not what his qb rating is, although JJ's has been elite level there too.
Ok we will see what happens on the field bud
Believe Me , I’m a Bears fan and JJ is the guy I wanted them to draft .
He has the arm , the smarts and he’s a proven winner . Screw what all of those so called analysts have said .
In my opinion JJ and the Vikings will be in the SB before any of the other QB’s drafted this year . The Bears made a BIG mistake .
They talk about him not passing enough , why should he . He didn’t need too and when he did JJ Delivered .
Go back to the last OSU game and the TD pass he threw between the helmets of the two defenders . Nuff Said !
Im worried about how he handles the high speed pressure of the NFL. Also, how and when he releases the ball...its gonna be a learning curve, me thinks
THE JURY IS OUT !!!! J J MCCARTHY HASN'T EVEN PLAYED 1 NFL GAME. HIS JUDGEMENT WILL COME AFTER HE'S SPENT 10 YEARS IN THE NFL, IF HE LASTS THAT LONG. NFL IS MUCH FASTER THAN COLLEGE FOOTBALL.
The thing is, rarely any QB is ready for the NFL straight out of college. For every Stroud you have 4 Youngs
JJ will have the best career out of all QBs taken in this past draft. Book it.
*I bet $5K to someone that in 5 years he will have the better career of all QBs taken in this draft*
As someone who doesn’t have 5 grand. I hope you’re right 🎉
I have yet to meet or talk to any Vikings fans who expect JJ to start, myself included. He is a very young QB and if it takes 2 years then so be it.
Good video, but I must admit when I first read the title my first thought was oh, oh.
Now I know why he didn’t say that Penix is doing good in mini camp
Skol!!! My boy JJ a dawg
13-4 record, not 12-4
This channel is so good
i've watched every J.J.
He's Jimmy Clausen
Not Jimmy Clausen?! 🤣🤣
He was 27-1 with 60 Total TDs 12 Turnovers in 3 seasons... That is a phenomenal turnover rate.
i feel like the minute they put him in hes gonna lock in, i watched him all last year and hes for sure a winner. thats what he cares about.
The Vikings were 13-4 in 2022, not 12-4.
I don't see McCarthy as a product of a college system. Maybe I'm wrong. I don't think he makes it long term in NFL
I am a Packers Fan, JJ McCarthy is going to win ROTY if he gets the starting job.
Their guy wasn’t there at 10*
So Sammy D starts and blows . JJ comes un and straight burns down the rest of season .
Next year Vikings get a high 1st pick and you fix the issue as long as JJ isnt totalled . Stefanski will coach him through a rough start. If the viks fall to 3rd in division thus seasons they will be back to 2nd the following.
Phins Up !!
Yoo the little subscribe popup 😂 some subliminal messaging
🤣🤣🤷
JJ MacCarthy is easily the best QB from the 2023 NFL draft and the greatest Michigan QB of all time. Change my mind.
Nice video!
As a Packers fan I say let them sit. How many can’t miss prospects have the Bears ruined?
Realist Vikes fan here. We are still gonna be 11th best every year. We missed on the best QB again. Let’s just get Sanders or Ewers. Let’s tank already.
You sound miserable. Are you ok?
Give JJ Mac a full year no matter what…
I like JJ but I don’t think he’s going to be very good in the NFL. As a Michigan fan I hope I’m wrong but as a Lions fan, I hope I’m right.
He is only good when he knows what defensive plays are coming. In other words, he’s a cheater. Good luck with this loser.
I went to Nazareth with him back in 2018 in illinois. And well he’s a great great guy trust me he is. But he cares too much about football then about what other people do
The same people said the same things about justin jefferson at the draft. JJ mccarthy will be a DOG!
McCarthy landed in the best QB developmental system in the NFL. Barring catastrophe, he'll be third-string. That's not a bad thing.
THEY ARE TRYING TO HUOE MC CARTHY UP AS ELITE AND HE HAS BEEN A GAME MANAGER IN COLLEGE
Agreed
But they were 13-4 last year
The harsh truth is he’s a bum backup qb at best
This didn't age well at all. O Connell said he believes J.J. is their franchise QB and his teammates say he is a dawg. They and I would know better than you
As a Michigan fan I hope JJ has a great career. But the Lions are number one in my heart. So he can win 10 MVPs but he's not allowed to beat the Lions.. sorry those are the rules
