You could go full circle with an evolutionary step about culling your games and getting back to only 10, then realizing the value of party games again.
How you can both effortlessly deliver a self-own about comedy in board game videos AND accurately predict the future (a world where Paula Deming is known and loved by every hobby gamer) is a triumph my friend! Amazing as always.
Sitting here, opening a Kickstarter game that arrived today, nodding along at every single part of this & fondly remembering my descent into madness, buying expansions for games still on my “shelf of opportunity” & FOMO all-in nonsense.
From listening to a recent episode of Sporadically Board featuring Matthew Jude, I gather that this was inspired by actual comments on UA-cam and/or Facebook.
Phase 5 is when you see a UA-cam board game video with Paula, so you just to go the video and click "like" automatically. Cuz, you know you're going to, anyway... and I've never yet been wrong about that. Phase 6 is when you see a UA-cam video of Paula endorsing the greatness that is... meatloaf.
This video was really well made and very funny! Although I saw the bit about taking the insert out and I did that, and now everything actually fits into the box . . . OH NO WHAT'S HAPPENING TO ME?!
You missed Phase 5 where you have so many games you have to start the cull. You know more games than house your in, selling games in shrink, selling games in shrink because you just got the second edition, deciding if you are going to keep edition one and two/deluxe version, I played half that game that counts as a play I could sell it without guilt.
That Dominion moment is absolutely on point! Though it gives you enough opportunity to go to the bathroom or cook a delicious meal. Or give you a depression how bad you are in this game.
When you get your first Kallax shelf, you know you've finally made it a gamer. Huzzah! When you buy your _third_ Kallax shelf, when then you know you have a problem... ;-) Well done!

But I’m just not into airplanes... and what’s a worker placement?” to where I am now in a year or so, I love this. Need to add a phase for designer wannabes for those of us that binged Ludology! 😀

"Kids, we're going to spend this summer playing every game we haven't played yet, in case they suck, so I can clear some shelf space for new games. What's that? No, we'll have time! Wait, you go back when? Okay, we might not have time."
While I think that many videos in the board game space that try comedy are cringe-worthy, Paula is just so completely clever and I cannot help but laugh every time. Seriously, her writing is top notch and her timing is excellent.
My favourite hobby is playing games. With little children and a busy life and teenagers who are being less involved and generally being tired I've found that my family has slipped a bit lately in that regard. And when that happens I tend to drift towards my second favourite hobby - buying games. And in that regard I am doing well and don't really need other players to make it happen.
Her eating and then about to touch the card made my hair stand up like when a girl in an anime gets angry! Haha why isn't Paula super famous???? She's hilarious!
I have personally gone through these stages of the boardgame hobby and you captured each one perfectly! Excellent video as usual, your work is exceptional!
And this is why 'Watch It Played' reached out to you. Oh My goodness. This is hilarious, top-notch quality, and why the heck have I only watched these now?!?!
Love it!! I'm between stage 1 and 2, and probably understood less than half the references . But everything is done SO WELL!! Wish i had the vocabulary or writing skills to explain it better.
Paula - you are awesome… your great videos and really great ideas in having a little fun with this nerdish hobby are a blast! Keep up the good work and stay healthy!
I love these videos... a couple of moments that resonated with me... 1. The cheeto hands, I was dying watching her reach for the card 2. Destroying components, I am not a legacy gamer and it tore my heart open 3. METAL COINS, I MUST HAVE ALL THE METAL COINS!
My fav part is the order of the youtube content creators mirrors my own. First, I consumed a ton of Tom Vassel content in 2016-17, and then Rodney soon after, and then Paula!
Have you looked at Betrayal Legacy? It's not very Legacy, but significantly upgrades the Betrayal rules, reducing the number of games where you need to guess at how parts of the Haunt are meant to work and getting rid of a couple of exploits.
I basically went from Risk/Monopoly straight to Twilight Struggle at 25 years old with no intermediaries, and goodness I still love that game. Am I the only person who when they saw the chopsticks thought "that's a good idea"
it worked pretty well with the cheetos!
you've just leveled up!
stealing that for the next boardgame night
My girlfriend invented that technique for us to get around my zero food when playing with cards and cardboard mandate. It works really well in my opinion!
Oh I immediately decided that I was going to enforce chopsticks with snacks when I saw that clip. This bit has created a monster.
Revisited this years later, still holds up across the board.
I love how you didn't actually being yourself to touch the cards with cheeto fingers, but cut the clip just as it looked like you were about to. Great video! Also, you're not wrong about that BSG insert.

That cheeto fingers clip was the ultimate "NOOOOOoooooo" moment.
