      @@stereokuuji he's not wrong though. Joey would rather do these 'spending a day with/doing' videos than to do videos actually talking about anime properly. You can make the argument that Joey does bring up anime at points in these videos, but let's be real here, the focus is NOT on the discussion of anime. Take the video he did with the pornstar for example, obviously the whole discussion wasn't centered on what anime they like or whatever. Joey obviously felt obligated to mention anime since it's a part of his fucking online name, but it doesn't take a fucking genius to understand where the whole discussion was going and it certainly wasn't about anime.

    That was such an interesting interview! Shes very beautiful for her age btw. In her 50s? wow. I love that she turned her life around and started a youtube channel to share her experience and use it as inspiration for others to learn from and to really think about being a law abiding citizen so others dont end up where she did. Thats practically unheard of in the US. Most ppl who go to jail in the US come out and theyre no good at anything, usually ending up back in prison in no time and dont change their lives at all. Shes one of a kind
    Next interview MUST be the real life rentarou out in hokkaido with his 4 wives and his goal of 50 children. Please find that guy Joey! Also much success in rebranding your channel. I much prefer this to anime reviews

    • @ryana5435
      @ryana5435 4 місяці тому +5

      Yeah agree. I think bc US is a very individualist society so you never heard of ppl like this lady in this video. Japan is collectivist society, is all about respect and help each other in some way to some extent. US is also very capitalist so there is no such mentality and supporting system to help these people become a law abiding citizen and acclimate into society. I just searched the sentence for "did drug in Japan": "Use or possession of small amounts of drugs may result in a prison sentence of between one and ten years and Japanese law allows for a fine of up to 5,000,000 yen. Some people convicted of drug related offences have been issued a deportation order." Japan is strict on drugs. US should stop loosen the restriction and limit for drug use and learn from Japan.

    I am a foreigner that has been in Japanese jail, I've even made a video about it in my yt channel talking about the details of the experience. It was AWFUL, but in my experience my fellow cellmates were wonderful.
    The yakuza dudes were really kind and made me feel at ease. Their prediction of my sentencing was spot on and I felt emotional leaving them behind.

  • @sonny9054
    @sonny9054 4 місяці тому +76

    I experienced being detained in a Japanese police station cell for a day and a half. My charges were dropped in a fairly short period of time, so I kind of look back at it as an odd experience. The one word that captures the experience was that it was extremely boring. Unlike a jail, there is no forced labor or anything so all you can do to kill your time is to read leftover mangas, and after you’ve done that, it’s only reading that day’s paper. Boy, had I never felt reading a newspaper would be so entertaining.
    In the extremely unlikely event that you end up like me, my only advice would be to never talk about yourself to your roommates. You could become their next target if you are not careful.
    There were some colorful characters there. I had three roommates, one was arrested for fraud, another one was a young chap on drugs, and the other I don’t know since he was detained after me so didn’t get a chance to talk. Then there was this extremely violent guy at the DA’s office which was almost comical. Glad that I didn’t need to share a cell with that man. And then there was this Yakuza being surprised or envious when he heard that I was going to be released. That was pretty funny too.
    All in all, it was an interesting experience, but definitely not a pleasant one. So for those visiting Japan, stay away from trouble because it could become messy.

I was surprised that she was able to go between jobs afterwards for a bit before youtube because you always hear about prison being this black mark that stops you getting jobs with the way people talk about it. Maybe when they ask about criminal history and you tell them about it and they learn that you are doing better now it's not such a black mark, maybe the cases where people can't find work after are those that don't change so much. Either way, this was a really cool video.

      It can be a hinderance but there are still places that will hire ex-convicts, as long as you are honest about it. You likely won't get a very good job, but what a lot of people don't know is that an inmate can learn several skills, trades and earn at least an associates while in the prison system. It's not available everywhere and usually depends on taxpayer's funds, but for people who want to get something to get them a start when they get out, there are options.

    Very interesting interview with a very interesting person.
    It seems especially socially stressful in prison. With a lot of maybe unspiken rules and hirachies, I can see why some people "just want to be alone" (aka in solidary) for a while. But having nothing to do, almost no stimulants to your brain, is also one of the most maddening things. Like she described even resorting to picking fuzz off of blanket. The mind grasps anything it can get. There are several classic accounts of solidary confinement and an understimulated mind creating the greatest torture for people.

    Thanks for the video Joey! It's really interesting seeing this "dark" side of the world especially from different countries. I would have liked to see more of this person's past and what lead her (and other people in a similar manner) to a such a situation but I understand if that were to be too intrusive. Please don't take this in a meanful matter but I also reckon the overuse of edits did take away a little from the seriousness of the topic in question. Nothing too major tho! Cheers mate!

    I think this is a very interesting video. In many of your videos I think we can see sides of Japan that we weren't aware of before (weeb-vision activated!). Thank you for this and I hope to see more of you in the future!

    She mentioned she made daruma and other inmates made bags and shoes and stuff in prison. I was in Taipei during the lantern festival and the city was covered in these paper statues (the lanterns, but they're shaped like animals and stuff and are huge). I read some of the signs and a large number of them were made by prison inmates. Like you'd have a huge pikachu or something and it was made by "inmates at so-and-so correctional facility".

    This is another great interview Joey. You’ve been smashing these out of the park. The editing isn’t great though. The cuts were weird and the memes just got in the way. It needed a bit more of a serious tone to match the subject matter
