It's funny how as kid you didn't appreciate just how awesome this show
and so many more were. Looking back on it years later through the lens
of adulthood, is both painful and nostalgic ( The lyric"feeling the pain
as innocence dies" makes so much more sense now at 25)... Knowing that
the world that we grew into as hopeful kids didn't quite live up to the
dreams we had, and looking back on a time when we still had hope and
imagination. 90's kids have the most bittersweet childhood memories of
    all time.

Elijah Casabonne Elijah Casabonne Seriously. Guys every person from anytime had hardships. Now the 90's , before and in the future. Though I must admit the shows from the 90's and early 2000's were good and this song and show has a great lesson.

    • @e.regular3501
      @e.regular3501 7 років тому +7

It's not about the hardships though... it's about the disillusionment that 90's kids faced, because of what we thought the world would be as kids and then what it was by the time we became adults. We were shown only good possibilities and as a generation that kind of screwed us because we didn't know better than what we were told and shown via popular culture.

    • @katiegenser1138
      @katiegenser1138 7 років тому

Elijah Casabonne Though the 90's aren't the only one's who felt disillument or faced it. Every kid faves it and every kid has there innocence dies. I mean it's apart of growing up and each century had there own way of getting disillusioned. It could or is worse but we could change that of we try.

    -Show Version’s Lyrics-
I see a land with liberty for all
Yet still I know the truth will rise and fall
That's just the way it goes
A word now to the wise
The world was made to change
    Each day is a surprise
Lookin' at life through my own eyes
Searchin' for a hero to idolize
Feeling the pain as innocence dies
Looking at life through my own eyes
I take my heart into battle
Give that freedom bell a rattle
    Get my independence signed
Declare it on the dotted line
    In Philidelphia freedom ring
    And patriotic voices sing
Red White & Blue never give up
    We represent America
I'm hoping and praying for a brighter day
I listen to my heart and I obey
How can I see it any other way?
Looking at life (looking at life)
    Through my own eyes
    -Full Version’s Additional Verse-
Give me a world that's equal on all sides
Let freedom flow as constant as the tides
I pray with each sunset, don't forget to rise
    I live without regret
    For ordinary lives
I'm lookin' at life through my own eyes
Searchin' for a hero to idolize
Feeling the pain as innocence dies
Looking at life through my own eyes
I'm hoping and praying for a brighter day
I listen to my heart and I obey
How can I see it any other way?
I'm looking at life (looking at life)
    Through my own eyes

Back in 5th grade, we used to watch this in class, and I'd sing along with the intro. After a while of being the only kid singing, other kids started singing until the only words out of every child's mouth in the class was "Lookin at life through my own eyes!" Then, the summer of 6th grade, I was sleeping on the floor in the living room (a weird thing my brother and I would do when we were little) and I heard the intro on TV, I ended up singing along quietly and watching the show at 4 AM. Going into 9th grade in less than 4 months, I still think this is one of the best shows I've watched ever.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be crying in the corner while reminiscing.
