  • I have a deep love for the Italian approach to perfume. I wanted to make this video discuss the nature of the Italian approach to perfume and, in particular, discuss how Lorenzo Villoresi embodies and excels at the style.

    My new favorite perfume channel. So keen on language, so tidy on words, so cunning and interesting. Thumbs up!

      @thetrueconnoisseur And I think you have the only channel that never, never ever mentioned " compliments".

    Great vid. A fun video would be comparing various geographic approaches to perfumery: Italian vs Spanish vs French vs British vs Middle Eastern for example.

      I agree! I feel like I have a good handle on French/British, but I'm only casually acquainted with Spanish and Middle Eastern perfumery.

    I love the fragrances I've tried from this house. Uomo is actually my scent of the day. You've made me very curious about Ambra!

      Ambra is a prime example of perfume as art! I can't recommend it strongly enough.

    You so eloquently describe what makes Italian perfume different from French! You’ve really pushed me over the edge and now I want to sample LV but don’t know where to find them in USA. Do you have any suggestions? Loving your channel.

    • @thetrueconnoisseur
      @thetrueconnoisseur  5 місяців тому +1

      It's hard to find LV in the USA - I don't know if there's official distribution here.
      I've mostly had to blind buy or order samples from third parties.

    I own Sandalo, Theseus, Patchouli, Atman Xaman, Alamut, Iperbonea and Vetiver... need I say more?
    I love Villoresi. It was he who got me into the frag world. Theseus was my first niche.
    I also have samples of his other perfumes.
    However, my most beloved perfumes are made by French perfumers (Tuscan Leather, Ombre nomade, Carlisle, Ambre Narguile, Kouros... to name a few).

    • @thetrueconnoisseur
      @thetrueconnoisseur  5 місяців тому

      Theseus is on my wish list.
      I obviously love plenty of French perfume, too (there's *slightly* more French than Italian perfume on my top ten).

      I haven't smelled everything from Zegna, but one of their past releases, Passion, is one of the best incense fragrances I've ever encountered.

    Love the different angle you take on perfumery (here and in general) so relevant and unique. And I really dig the comparison between italians and french with food! You could also have use spirits as comparison (italians Amari made with medicinal herbs vs french wines, champagne, cognac, etc) 👍

    Another lovely video.
    I see french perfumery as a grand orchestra playing a majestic symphony, while Italian perfumery is like a smaller orchestra playing a gentler and apparently simpler music, with various soloists alternating in an harmonious conversations.
    I live not far from Florence, and I adore Villoresi 's frageces. In fact, I own almost all of them. My first love was Iperborea, which I strongly recommend you to try: it is Italian spring in a bottle, it's joy and optimism made fragrance.
    Should you return to Florence, visit I Profumi di Firenze, which is In Piazza della Signoria. It is a hidden gem, and their fragrance are: very good, long lasting and very affordable. Needless to say I own many of them.
    I love your channel, as your tastes match mine and I find your way of expressing yourself really polite and genuine.

    I have Piper Nigrum from Villoresi. Artistic. Tale of two scents through the life cycle. Love tge drydown but hate the putrid herbal opening. All in all the opening ruins it. Seems I've tested a few others, but I can't remember.
    My perception of Italian Perfumery is the Citrus Aromatic. And a sort of artistic, classy toiletry. I love Aqua di Parma.

    • @thetrueconnoisseur
      @thetrueconnoisseur  5 місяців тому

      The opening of Piper Nigrum is challenging for me. As much as I love Villoresi, I don't see myself ever owning that one.

      Turin is entitled to call it like he sees it, but I think he's very, very wrong regarding Villoresi.

    The Bonfire is back! Your sign off video was relatable, but very disappointing. I had cut my viewing of YT fragrance channels down to just 3. The YT “frag-comm” channels and personalities , had devolved into a cringent viewing experience. Your approach was (is) unique, inspired, and thoroughly enjoyable with each new posting, ,While I agree with your assertion that fragrance, perfume, is best enjoyed and approached as an accessory, it’s clear , to me, that these luxuries, non essentials, provide far more pleasure, color and comfort than their ranking on a true priorities list would suggest.

    Still my favourite style of perfumery. French eeeza gude, 🤌but Italian....eeza natting like a it. 🌿🍋 I guess I'm just a sucker for mediterannean inspiration.
